Tom Payne: ‘I Was Disappointed’ That ‘Walking Dead’ Producers Had Little Interest in Jesus’s Homosexuality
Tom Payne, whose Walking Dead character Jesus came out as gay during an episode in March, said he is disappointed that Jesus’ sexual orientation was just dropped after that.
Said Payne to The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s been so amazing to be a part of that community and to give visibility as a gay character on one of the biggest television shows ever. It was an amazing responsibility, and I was happy to take it on. But I was disappointed it wasn’t in there more. It wasn’t ever even explicitly mentioned. [Jesus’ sexual orientation] was just one scene with Lauren in season seven. The right people picked up on it; they did recognize it. But you can find people who still don’t realize Jesus was gay. I think they could have been a bit more up front about that. ”
“While you’ve lost Jesus, you still have Aaron and Tara (Alanna Masterson), and now Magna (Nadia Hilker) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), so there’s still representation on the show,” Payne added. “But it’s a shame. He was such a badass character. They could have made more of it. It’s really Robert Kirkman who was so amazing to do it in the comic books. I was super excited to play that. I wish they made a bigger deal of it. But other storylines take precedent, I guess.”

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has supplied a live video of its control room as it attempts to land its InSight probe, which intends to map the subterranean structure of Mars. It carries a seismometer which will help map the structure planet. The probe is also equipped with a jackhammer that will dig 16 feet into the surface of the planet.

The “Carol of the Queens” highlights the competing fan-favorite contestants for RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season four, including Jasmine Masters, Manila Luzon, Latrice Royale, Gia Gunn and Trinity Taylor. The new season premieres Friday, Dec. 14 on VH1.

SECRETARY PERDUE’S ATTACK ON LGBTQ YOUTH IS INEXCUSABNLE: HRC sent a FOIA request to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in response to news that the Trump-Pence White House and USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue are pressuring the national 4-H youth organization to rescind a policy welcoming LGBTQ participants. “For over a century, the national 4-H youth program has taught tens of millions of children the importance of character and community,” said HRC HRC Senior Vice President, Policy and Political Affairs, JoDee Winterhof. “This latest action by the Trump-Pence Administration is an unnecessary and cruel attack on LGBTQ youth that seeks to destroy community rather than create it.” More from HRC.
