We Believe Dr. Blasey Ford. If White House Does Not Withdraw, the Senate Must Reject His Nomination
We Believe Dr. Blasey Ford. If White House Does Not Withdraw, the Senate Must Reject His Nomination
Today, following the credible testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, HRC again called on the White House to withdraw Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination and for members of the United States Senate to oppose his confirmation to the Supreme Court of the United States. To date, Donald Trump and Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley have refused to honor precedent by asking the FBI to investigate the credible allegations of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh brought forward by Dr. Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, Julie Swetnick, and other potential survivors. In light of this refusal to fully investigate, and the credible testimony given by Dr. Blasey Ford today, Kavanaugh must not be confirmed to the nation’s highest court.
“Dr. Christine Blasey Ford has bravely come forward, delivered credible and compelling testimony about her sexual assault, and has provided significant detail that would allow the Senate Judiciary Committee to corroborate her allegations. Despite this, Donald Trump, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have refused to fully investigate her claims or halt the proceedings to gather more information, and have instead fast-tracked Kavanaugh’s confirmation. And today, they despicably attempted to put a sexual assault survivor on trial. This is unacceptable,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “In light of what we have heard, and Senator Grassley’s refusal to pursue an FBI investigation, the Trump-Pence Administration must withdraw Kavanaugh’s nomination immediately. If they do not, members of the Senate must oppose and vote against his confirmation. The price of admission to our nation’s highest court must be a fair, deliberate, thorough and transparent confirmation process. Instead, in their rush to hijack the Supreme Court, Senator Grassley, Senator McConnell and this White House are compounding the harms endured by these women and thousands of other survivors while undermining our democracy in the process.”

Barbra Streisand Slams Trump in New Song: ‘Don’t Lie To Me’ — LISTEN
Barbra Streisand takes direct aim at Donald Trump in the new track “Don’t Lie To Me” from her forthcoming album Walls, her first album of original material since 2005.
Said Streisand to TIME: ‘I believe in the power of the truth, and I can’t stand being lied to. I don’t think the country should be lied to either. So that started me thinking about how to put down my thoughts in music and lyrics about what was on my mind. As a matter of fact, the first song from this album is called “What’s On My Mind.” And I was very driven by this president’s lies. And that’s why this first song is “Don’t Lie to Me.”…if you listen to it at first, maybe it could be a relationship—a woman walks into a room and sees her husband with another woman and says, ‘Who are you gonna believe? Me or my lyin’ eyes?’ To me, being lied to is very personal, very deep, because I was lied to as a child. But this is a president now…I think the total is over 5,000 lies. And I just don’t understand how the public or even his party lets him get away with that.’

Brett Kavanaugh’s Gay Yale Roommate Speaks Out About ‘Grim’ Dorm Room, Vomit-Covered Bathroom, Dead Pigeon Nailed to Door
Kit Winter was Brett Kavanaugh’s roommate at Yale in a three-man suite, where two rooms, a double and a single opened up onto a large living area. Winter’s other roommate was James Roche, the man who released a statement this week testifying to 2nd Kavanaugh accuser Deborah Ramirez’s character and admitting, “Based on my time with Brett, I believe that he and his social circle were capable of the actions that Debbie described.”

Winter is gay. In a new piece in New York magazine’s The Cut, Winter described living in the single room in that suite, and the “grim” living conditions, both physically and socially, he found himself in: “I was out, but I was still a little alienated. I was not really a joiner, I don’t think. Yale was not a particularly gay-friendly environment, but I was also not a particularly friendly person. I looked alienated. I felt alienated. I drank a lot.”
A few details from the piece, which offers a new window into Kavanaugh’s college years:
Winter said the shared bathroom was constantly covered in vomit: ‘Especially disgusting was the shared bathroom, which was always covered in vomit. Kavanaugh and his crowd, whom Winter characterizes as “loud, obnoxious frat boy-like drunks” were the hardest drinkers on campus even back then, when hard drinking did not hold the stigma it does today. In a statement earlier this week, Roche recalled Kavanaugh “frequently drinking excessively and becoming incoherently drunk,” and Winter corroborates that recollection. “There was a lot of vomit in the bathroom. No one ever cleaned it up. It was disgusting. It wasn’t incidental. It wasn’t, ‘Oh, this weekend someone puked in the bathroom.’ People were constantly puking in the bathroom. Constantly.”’
Winter also described coming home one day to find a dead pigeon nailed to his room’s door: “It wasn’t rotten or anything. I assumed that someone found a dead bird on the ground,” he says. “I interpreted it as an act of social hostility slash terrorism. I thought it was a very clear message. ‘We don’t like you, and we don’t want you here.’ I didn’t know who it was who didn’t want me here. I didn’t know who had done it.”
