Human Rights Campaign and SAVE Endorse Donna Shalala for U.S. Congress (FL-27)

Human Rights Campaign and SAVE Endorse Donna Shalala for U.S. Congress (FL-27)

HRC and SAVE, South Florida’s foremost advocate for the LGBTQ community, announced their endorsements of Donna Shalala (D) in her bid to represent the people of Florida’s 27th Congressional District. Shalala is running to replace outgoing champion of equality Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R), who is retiring from office at the end of her term.

“Donna Shalala is a proven leader who will stand up to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and help pull the emergency brake on their reckless agenda,” said HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse. “With the experience and commitment needed to move LGBTQ equality forward, Donna will reject the politics of discrimination and fight for all of the hard-working families in her district, across the state of Florida, and throughout the country. HRC is proud to endorse Donna Shalala for U.S. Congress.”

“Retiring Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is leaving behind a long legacy of championing LGBTQ equality, and we are proud to be supporting Donna Shalala to continue that legacy,” said SAVE Executive Director Tony Lima. “It is beyond doubt that Donna is the most qualified candidate in this race. She is ready to be our next champion in D.C. on day one.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign and SAVE, two organizations that have fought so hard for equality in Miami-Dade and around the country,” said Donna Shalala. “Though we’ve come so far in achieving basic equal rights for LGBTQ Americans, there is still much work to be done, and I look forward to getting to Congress to continue fighting.”

Donna E. Shalala has spent her entire career fighting to improve the lives of others. The former president of the University of Miami, she has advocated tirelessly for women’s rights, civil rights, increased access to health care, better education and schools and a clean, sustainable environment. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) where she served for eight years, becoming the longest serving HHS Secretary in U.S. history. In Congress, Shalala has pledged to support the Equality Act — critically important federal legislation that would finally add clear, comprehensive non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people to our nation’s civil rights laws.

In Florida, HRC has identified nearly 700,000 LGBTQ voters and more than 3.2 million “Equality Voters” — meaning they are strong supporters of progressive LGBTQ policies including marriage equality, equitable family law, and laws that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. Last year, HRC announced a coast-to-coast campaign to mobilize these voters for the midterm elections called HRC Rising, which represents the largest grassroots expansion in the organization’s 38-year history.

Seth Meyers to Kavanaugh: Celibacy Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Sexually Assault Someone, ‘Just Ask Thousands of Priests’ – WATCH

Seth Meyers to Kavanaugh: Celibacy Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Sexually Assault Someone, ‘Just Ask Thousands of Priests’ – WATCH

In a segment called “Couple Things”, Seth Meyers weighed in on Brett Kavanaugh’s denial that he sexually assaulted any women.

Said Meyers: “It does not matter if you were a virgin. You are being accused of sexual assault, not sexual intercourse. Those things have nothing to do with each other. It’s the same as saying, ‘I couldn’t have robbed that bank. I’m a virgin.’ Devoting yourself to celibacy doesn’t mean you can’t be a sexual assaulter. Just ask thousands of priests.”

Meyers also told Kavanaugh to stop saying he’s friends with women: “Just because you’re friends with one woman, doesn’t mean you haven’t been awful to another. That’s like saying you’re a vegetarian because you didn’t eat your dog.”

HRC Endorses Ron DiNicola for U.S. Congress (PA-16)

HRC Endorses Ron DiNicola for U.S. Congress (PA-16)

HRC announced its endorsement of Ron DiNicola in his bid to represent Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District.

“Ron DiNicola is the clear choice for fair-minded voters of Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District,” said HRC Campaign Director Geoff Wetrosky. “An experienced leader and public servant, DiNicola will stand up for fairness and equality, and be a champion for the hard-working families across his district every day in Congress. The Human Rights Campaign is proud to endorse his candidacy and we look forward to turning out Pennsylvania’s 2.3 million “Equality Voters” for him and other pro-equality candidates across the commonwealth this November.”

“I am proud to earn the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign,” said Ron DiNicola. “I have always been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, successfully leading the fight for non-discrimination protections in Erie nearly 20 years ago. While in Congress I vow to continue standing with the LGBTQ community and support the Equality Act.”

A lifelong Western Pennsylvanian, Ron DiNicola is a proven change-maker who has served his country and home state as a marine, nonprofit executive, community organizer and elected official. A longtime champion for equality, he helped pass a non-discrimination ordinance protecting Erie residents on the basis of sexual orientation and he remains committed to advancing LGBTQ equality as a member of Congress. DiNicola supports marriage equality and the Equality Act, important federal legislation that would finally guarantee explicit, comprehensive non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people under our nation’s civil rights laws.

In the general election, DiNicola will face incumbent Rep. Mike Kelly, who has a long history of working to undermine LGBTQ equality. Kelly is a co-sponsor of the so-called ‘First Amendment Defense Act’– proposed federal legislation that would legalize state-sanctioned discrimination. He has also received consecutive zeros on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard which measures members’ of Congress support for LGBTQ equality.

In Pennsylvania, HRC has identified more than 2.3 million “Equality Voters” — voters who support LGBTQ-inclusive policies. HRC has prioritized investments and organizing in Pennsylvania in the 2018 cycle, and has staff and resources on the ground in the state as part of the largest grassroots expansion in the organization’s 38-year history.

Michael Avenatti Locks Twitter Account, Denies Being Pranked About 3rd Kavanaugh Accuser

Michael Avenatti Locks Twitter Account, Denies Being Pranked About 3rd Kavanaugh Accuser

Attorney Michael Avenatti, who has claimed that he represents a third woman with a credible sexual assault allegation against Trump SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, locked his Twitter account after reports emerged that he was duped by a user on 4Chan.

Newsweek reports: “A user from 4Chan, a site linked to the alt-right that is notorious for trolling public figures, claimed that his girlfriend had called Avenatti pretending to be a woman Kavanaugh had assaulted who was prepared to give evidence.”

Avenatti denied being pranked in a statement to Politico: “I made the determination she was 100 percent credible well before Sunday night. We’ve received over 3,000 inquiries in the last six months from people with all kinds of crazy stories and fabrications. I’ve heard it all. I’ve seen it all. Like we don’t vet clients. Give me a break.”

Avenatti said he closed his Twitter account because of online threats and maintained that his client is “100 percent” real: “We haven’t moved the timetable back. Nothing’s changed. We don’t just do this at the drop of the hat…We wanted to surface the allegations for the committee, reasonably, once they were vetted, which is what we did….We have not arrived at a firm plan relating to the initial disclosure of these allegations. We are still working through it. This is a very dynamic situation with a lot of emotions at stake.”

You don’t have to say you love me

You don’t have to say you love me

Julie Bracken posted a photo:

You don't have to say you love me

When I said, I needed you
You said you would always stay
It wasn’t me who changed, but you
And now you’ve gone away

Don’t you know that now you’re gone
And I’m left here on my own
Then I have to follow you
And beg you to come home
