Brett Kavanaugh Accuser Speaks Out: ‘I Thought He Might Kill Me…He Was Trying to Attack Me and Remove My Clothing’

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman behind the letter to Senate Democrats accusing Trump SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in high school, has unmasked herself in an interview with the Washington Post.

The paper reports: “Since Wednesday, she has watched as that bare-bones version of her story became public without her name or her consent, drawing a blanket denial from Kavanaugh and roiling a nomination that just days ago seemed all but certain to succeed. Now, Ford has decided that if her story is going to be told, she wants to be the one to tell it.”

Said Ford to the paper, describing the moment Kavanaugh allegedly pinned her down and covered her mouth as he tried to remove her swimsuit: “I thought he might inadvertently kill me. He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”

Said Kavanaugh earlier this week: “I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time.”

HRC called for the Senate Judiciary Committee to halt the Supreme Court confirmation process for Brett Kavanaugh and investigate the sexual allegation against him brought forward by Professor Christine Glaser Ford.

“Christine Glaser Ford is brave to come forward with her story, and she must be treated with respect and dignity. Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination process has been anything but transparent, and now with this grave charge of sexual assault, this process must be halted immediately,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Moving forward with this confirmation process without conducting a thorough investigation would be deeply troubling and offensive to the American people, but more importantly to survivors of sexual assault across the country. It would communicate their trauma isn’t worthy of justice if a person sitting on the nation’s highest court can be confirmed without being investigated for alleged sexual violence.”

Last month, the Human Rights Campaign joined coalition partners in calling for the release of hundreds of thousands of documents related to Kavanaugh’s career in a bid for transparency on a lifetime appointment that would affect all Americans, especially LGBTQ people. This concern was exacerbated by Brett Kavanaugh’s refusal to answer basic questions about LGBTQ rights and reproductive health care during his confirmation hearings.

HRC released a comprehensive report on the threats Brett Kavanaugh poses to LGBTQ people. This was followed by the release of videos featuring Lillian, a young transgender woman in Alaska, and Laura, a resident of Maine and mother of a transgender son, Jack; both videos focus on the threats to the safety and dignity of LGBTQ people by this nomination. HRC has also mobilized more than 20,000 calls to the Senate demanding Kavanaugh be held accountable on views regarding LGBTQ people.

From non-discrimination protections to health care to LGBTQ military service, Kavanaugh is a nominee clearly hand-picked by anti-LGBTQ organizations to undermine the progress for equality.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill spoke at the Human Rights Campaign national dinner on Saturday night in Washington D.C..

Biden told the crowd that he wished he had spoken out against Trump sooner: “Barack and I agreed we would be quiet for the first year to let the new administration get up and running. God forgive me.

Biden then took aim at Trump: “Forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you have made. This time they — not you — have an ally in the White House. … Instead of using the full might of the executive branch to secure justice, dignity, and safety for all, the president uses the White House as a literal, literal bully pulpit, callously exerting his power over those who have little or none.”

Biden said that he decided to start speaking up against Trump after Charlottesville, telling the audience: “This is deadly earnest, we are in a fight for America’s soul. What has become of us? Our children are listening and our silence is complicit.”

Biden also talked about proclaiming his support for marriage equality ahead of Obama in 2012, and about laws allowing gay people to be fired from their jobs and the anti-discrimination measures that are needed.

At the dinner, actress Anne Hathaway was awarded the HRC National Equality Award.

Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder also spoke:
