ABC Reporter Karl Schmid Talks to Megyn Kelly About Being HIV-Positive and Undetectable: ‘This Stigma is Real, and Unnecessary’ – WATCH

Karl Schmid, the host of “On The Red Carpet” and reporter for ABC7 in Los Angeles who came out as HIV-positive in a viral Facebook post in March, sat down with Megyn Kelly on the TODAY show to talk about being HIV-positive and undetectable with the hope of fighting stigma. Schmid spoke to Kelly about receiving his diagnosis, what it meant to his parents and those around him, and the ongoing battle to fight perceptions about people living with HIV.

Said Schmid to Kelly: “This stigma is real. And it’s unnecessary.”

Said Schmid in a Facebook post: ‘When I was 15 I first came to NYC and remember seeing Rockefeller Center and the NBC peacock and NBC News sign and saying to myself, “one day I’m going to be on The Today Show”. Little did I know 23 years later I would be on The Today Show with Megyn Kelly TODAY…talking about something much bigger than myself (for once)! The fight against HIV stigma. Hopefully I can help start a new conversation about what it means to be HIV+ in 2018. Oh yeah, and I hope I make my mum and dad proud.’

Karsyn Kelly: What is It Recently???

Karsyn Kelly: What is It Recently???

Do I have a booger hanging out of my nose? Food on my face or lipstick on my teeth? Lately I have been getting the longest stares when im out in public. Im wondering what it is that im doing that are the cause for these long gazes! Its the length of time where its not completely creepy/stalker like, but definitely longer then the normal “glance over” or quick second eye contact with a stranger. It falls right in between….a couple of my friends have mentioned it to me too that I get the weirdest/longest stares. Anyways, Just was wondering if anyone goes through similar semi-awkward glances or at least has ideas of the possible reasons? ORRRR I may be thinking way too much into this particular subject and somehow has formed a public insecurity of sorts. I also then become paranoid to where these people recognize me from being on Cam, am I supposed to feel embarrassed or flattered? I feel torn between the two. Anywho, just my thought of the day before I hit the hay! (hey look im suddenly a poet today too!!! haha) Hope everyone sleeps well and would love to hear from new friends!!!!XO Karsyn

Laura Ricketts, Gay Cubs Owner, Says Daniel Murphy Trade Took Place After ‘Thoughtful Conversations’ About His Homophobic Views

Laura Ricketts, Gay Cubs Owner, Says Daniel Murphy Trade Took Place After ‘Thoughtful Conversations’ About His Homophobic Views

Laura Ricketts, the first openly gay (co-)owner of a Major League Baseball team (with her family), tweeted over the weekend that she, her brothers, and Cubs executives, okayed the acquisition of Daniel Murphy after “considered and thoughtful conversations” about his homophobic views.

Murphy, who has never changed his view that he “disagrees with the (gay) lifestyle, 100 percent,” was traded to the Cubs last week just five days before “Out at Wrigley,” the franchise’s long-running LGBTQ Pride night.

Tweeted Ricketts: “Since several people have asked…yes, I was consulted prior to the Daniel Murphy trade. There were several thoughtful conversations among Cubs executives, my brothers and me, as well as with Billy Bean, MLB’s Ambassador for Inclusion and the subject of Daniel’s 2015 comments. I know Billy and have immense respect for him and his work with the league. Billy, who has since developed a friendship with Daniel, was very positive and encouraging. After these considered and thoughtful conversations, which took place precisely because of the Cubs’ sensitivities on the matter, I was on board with the trade.”

HRC PRESIDENT CHAD GRIFFIN’S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN: “Senator McCain was a patriot and a hero, whose life was defined by his service and sacrifice on behalf of our country. While we disagreed on many issues, later in his career, he became an increasingly vocal advocate for LGBTQ servicemembers. In the last few years, Senator McCain blocked anti-LGBTQ language in the National Defense Authorization Act, opposed a ‘license to discriminate’ bill in Arizona, denounced the Trump-Pence Administration’s effort to ban transgender troops and spoke out against the nomination of the anti-LGBTQ Mark Green to lead the Army. We join with millions of Americans in mourning his loss, and extend our deepest condolences to Senator McCain’s wife, Cindy, and his entire family.” More from HRC.

Trump Rejected White House Statement Honoring John McCain

Trump Rejected White House Statement Honoring John McCain

Donald Trump rejected an official White House statement honoring the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ), opting instead for a tweet that “did not include any kind words.” Trump has also apparently returned the White House flags to full staff.

The Washington Post reports: “Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Chief of Staff John F. Kelly and other White House aides advocated for an official statement that gave the decorated Vietnam War POW plaudits for his military and Senate service and called him a ‘hero,’ according to current and former White House aides, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal deliberations. The original statement was drafted before McCain died Saturday, and Sanders and others edited a final version this weekend that was ready for the president, the aides said. ”

My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!
