Mo’Nique, Aaron Schock, Scott Pruitt, Stephen Amell, Iron Bear, Margaritas, Michael Cohen, Rollercoaster: HOT LINKS
AARON SCHOCK. Former GOP congressman asks Supreme Court to review his public corruption case. “At issue is a motion by Schock’s lawyers to have the charges against the Peoria Republican tossed out. In late May, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, which oversees federal courts in Illinois, denied Schock’s motion to dismiss the charges, in part saying they lack jurisdiction.”
NO, YOU SHUT UP. Mo’Nique and Precious director Lee Daniels are feuding.
SCOTT PRUITT. EPA Chief met with aides to scrub meetings from calendar that might look bad to public: ‘EPA staffers met routinely in Pruitt’s office to “scrub,” alter or remove from Pruitt’s official calendar numerous records because they might “look bad,” according to Kevin Chmielewski, Pruitt’s former deputy chief of staff for operations, who attended the meetings. A CNN review which compared Pruitt’s public calendar with internal EPA schedules and emails shows more than two dozen meetings, events or calls were omitted from his public calendar.’
MONTANA. Anti-LGBTQ ballot measure fails to gather enough support.
MICHAEL COHEN. Federal prosecutors get access to more than 1.3 million items seized in raid of Cohen’s offices: “Another 22,633 items are being examined by the Trump Organization and must be turned over by Thursday, according to court documents. The files are among the cache of 3.7 million documents seized by the FBI in raids on Cohen’s home, office and hotel room in April.”
SCOTUS. Trump’s shortlist.
STEPHEN AMELL. Poolside nude.
TOWN CLOSING. D.C. loses its only big gay dance club: “The two-level club with an outdoor patio opened in a leased space at 8th Street and Florida Avenue NW in 2007. Rumors of its demise due to the sale of the land it occupied have persisted for years, but in June 2017 they became a reality. The club announced that the land had indeed been sold for $25 million.”
GERMANY. Merkel agrees to refugee camps on the border.
AUSTIN. Firework thrown at Iron Bear gay bar: ‘According to general manager Jason Grodzinsky, the firework – which he described “like a little M80” – was thrown from a car and went off in a cloud of unwelcome sparkle just after last call. There was no warning, and whoever threw it didn’t say anything. Grodzinsky, whose back was turned to Eighth Street, where he suspects the firework was thrown from, said he was “startled” by the loud blast and saw pops of light. Because of the perpetrator’s silence, Grodzinsky doesn’t know if the incident was “motivated by hate,” but said he’d like to “think of it as an isolated event.
SCOTUS. Will it overturn bans on gay conversion therapy?
TRIPPY RIDE OF THE DAY. “Aly and I went to magic mountain to ride rollercoaster for her birth day and we filmed it with the new Fusion from @gopro . This is just footage put through stabilization during the stitching process. I thought it looked interesting, what do you think?”

GOP Rep. Jim Jordan Accused of Failing to Stop Sex Abuse of College Wrestlers While Coach at Ohio State
GOP Rep. Jim Jordan Accused of Failing to Stop Sex Abuse of College Wrestlers While Coach at Ohio State
GOP Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is being accused of willfully ignoring the sexual abuse of wrestlers he coached at Ohio State University.
NBC News reports: ‘The university announced in April that it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, abused team members when he was the team doctor from the mid-1970s to late 1990s. Jordan, who was assistant wrestling coach at the university from 1986 to 1994, has repeatedly said he knew nothing of the abuse until former students began speaking out this spring. His denials, however, have been met with skepticism and anger from some former members of the wrestling team. Three former wrestlers told NBC News that it was common knowledge that Strauss showered regularly with the students and inappropriately touched them during appointments, and said it would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware; one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse.’
Mike DiSabato, a former wrestler said that Jordan “is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on” and that when he reached out to the now congressman, Jordan told him to “please leave me out of it.”
Another wrestler, Dunyasha Yetts, said he talked to Jordan multiple times about incidents involving Strauss, including a time Strauss started pulling down his wrestling shorts when he told the doctor he had a thumb injury, and said “it’s sad for me to hear that he’s denying knowing about Strauss…I don’t know why he would, unless it’s a cover-up. Either you’re in on it, or you’re a liar.”
Another unidentified teammate told NBC News there was no way Jordan couldn’t have known about the abuse: “It was a head-scratcher to me why he would say he didn’t know anything. Doc used to take showers with the team even though he didn’t do any workouts, and everybody used to snicker about how you go into his office for a sore shoulder and he tells you to take your pants down.”
Much more in NBC News’ report.
Jordan’s spokesman Ian Fury released a statement to NBC News: “Congressman Jordan never saw any abuse, never heard about any abuse, and never had any abuse reported to him during his time as a coach at Ohio State.”

MAJOR EDITORIAL BOARDS IN MAINE CALL ON GOV. LEPAGE TO SIGN BILL PROTECTING YOUTH FROM SO-CALLED “CONVERSION THERAPY”: “Same-sex attraction is not something that needs to be cured. The government also should have no role in telling people that their gender expression is right or wrong,” writes the Portland Press Herald Editorial Board. “Ethical psychotherapists have long ago stopped attempting this treatment because it doesn’t help their patients — it harms them.” More from the Portland Press Herald and Bangor Daily News.

Boston-Area Teen Charged with Hate Crime for Holding Gay Man Captive for 4 Days, Beating and Starving Him: WATCH
A Boston-area teen is under arrest and charged with a hate crime after he allegedly held a 50-year-old man captive inside a basement apartment for four days, starved him and beat him with a bat because he’s gay.
FRAMINGHAM: Sugrue Jackson is accused of assaulting, & holding a man against his will for 4days. Police say, this was a hate crime. “Sugrue knew the victim was gay,&used him for favors”. pic.twitter.com/o1jayKIhLI
— Malini Basu (@WFXTMalini) July 2, 2018
Police in the Boston suburb of Framingham discovered the man, Otoni Eliseu, after someone else called in a report about a man being beaten with a bat.
Boston 25 News reports: “Jackson Sugrue, 19. of Framingham, is facing a hate crime charge because Eliseu alleges he kept yelling homosexual slurs as Sugrue assaulted him, the prosecution said…At the scene, officers found Eliseu wearing only a pair of pants, lying on the ground covered in blood, bruises and scratches.”
Eliseu, who had been living in the woods, was staying in the church basement and had used crack with Sugrue before Sugrue threatened him, Boston 25 adds: ‘On Saturday, the prosecution alleges Sugrue pulled Eliseu from his bed onto the floor and began attacking him repeatedly by stepping on his throat and choking him. Eliseu claims it was a hate crime because he is gay. “He attacked me on my back, on my butt, [saying] ‘you’re gay, you like me,’” said Eliseu. Eliseu also claims Sugrue beat him with a coffee table while yelling out homosexual slurs and referencing his sexuality, allegedly saying “I know you’re gay.” Eliseu also said Sugrue beat him with a fire extinguisher. Eliseu told Boston 25 News he begged and cried to get out of the bathroom. On Saturday, he managed to break free and run for his life.’
Sugrue’s attorney and parents claim that Sugrue is the victim, Metro West Daily News reports:
Sugrue’s attorney, Kenneth Gross argued for Sugrue’s release.
Gross claimed Sugrue was actually the victim. He said the 50-year-old man was trying to take advantage of his 19-year-old client.
“He (alleged victim) was trying to entice my client to do things that were against his nature,” Gross said.
Sugrue’s parents, Terry and Frank, were shocked and dismayed by the story told by the alleged victim. They spoke with the Daily News on Monday.
“My son is a victim of a 50-year-old man,” said Terry Sugrue. She added the two had known each other for a couple of months and that in the past week, she and her husband had tried to limit the contact between her son and the other man.
Terry said she and her husband had tried to help the other man by doing things like buying him dishes.
“This is someone we tried to help,” said Terry Sugrue. “He became obsessed with my son.”
