GLAAD has officially launched its “Amp Your Voice” LGBTQ youth voter engagement campaign today!

The Goal:

GLAAD wants to increase LGBTQ youth turnout for the midterm election, as our stories, voices and concerns should all be seen and heard by our government. Young LGBTQ people should always be empowered to speak up, speak out, register to vote, and then take the issues that matter most to them to the polls on November 6th, 2018.

The Strategy:

Pride festivals will be happening all over the country from New York to San Francisco, and GLAAD will be kicking off its “Amp Your Voice” campaign by sending a traveling billboard to tour these festivals in major cities to raise awareness for the campaign, onboard new voters, and encourage the next generation of LGBTQ youth to excercise their right to vote. The first stop will be the BuzzFeed Queer Prom in New York City happening today. On site will be GLAAD’s own Campus Ambassador Leah Juliett, with Rain Dove walking the red carpet, and GLAAD staff and volunteers will be registering attendees to vote.

“Young people in this country are at the forefront of articulating the connection between the perilousness of their rights and safety under Trump Administration and the power of their own voices to create change.” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “GLAAD’s Amp Your Voice campaign will further empower young people, especially LGBTQ youth and allies, in their leadership roles.”

The Stops:

  1. The GLAAD traveling billboard will also make stops in the following locations:
  2. Asbury Park, NJ during Jersey Pride
  3. Washington D.C. in advance of Capital Pride
  4. Nashville, TN for GLAAD’s Concert for Love & Acceptance
  5. Indianapolis, IN for Indy Pride
  6. Denver, CO for Denver Pride
  7. Santa Ana, CA for Orange County Pride
  8. San Francisco, CA for SF Pride.

Keep your eyes open all Pride Month for our #AmpYourVoice billboard traveling the country to inspire the next generation of LGBTQ youth to register to vote. Not registered yet? We can help you with that! t.co/TZZBuhI5u1 #Pride2018 pic.twitter.com/DMcFuDPiGt

— GLAAD (@glaad) June 1, 2018

The GLAAD  “Amp Your Voice” traveling billboard will also address the constant attacks the Trump Administration has made on LGBTQ people since January 2017. GLAAD’s Trump Accountability Project has documented more than 75 direct attacks, including ongoing efforts to ban transgender soldiers from serving in the military and revoking non-discrimination protections for transgender youth at school.

GLAAD is also launching the official online action center for the “Amp Your Voice” campaign, where users will be encouraged to register to vote, take specific action on state and federal legislation, contact their representatives in Congress, and participate in GLAAD’s calls to action for video submissions telling us why people are energized and inspired to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.

GLAAD’s “Amp Your Voice Campaign” is launching at a time where LGBTQ acceptance is falling and anti-LGBTQ violence and discrimination are on the rise. GLAAD and The Harris Poll’s 2018 Accelerating Acceptance Report, which measures American attitudes toward LGBTQ people and issues showed a decline in acceptance of LGBTQ people for the first time in the report’s four year history.

HRC KICKS OFF PRIDE MONTH BY LAUNCHING SUMMER OF ACTION 2018: HRC’s nationwide Summer of Action is anchored by more than 500 local events in all fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Today, HRC President Chad Griffin will kick off a month-long series of campaign events in half a dozen battleground states with events in Madison, Wisconsin. For more information on press opportunities with Griffin, contact [email protected].

“Donald Trump and Mike Pence have awakened a sleeping giant. Never before have Americans been more eager to participate, advocate and fight back against this administration’s hateful policies and rhetoric,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “HRC’s grassroots army of more than 3 million members and supporters are already organizing and mobilizing to support pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot who will help us pull the emergency brake on the Trump-Pence agenda in November.”

Happy Pride Month! Celebrate #Pride2018 with @HRC by:

As we embark on this historic campaign, let’s check out the state of play for LGBTQ equality in the states:

  • States are making big moves to protect LGBTQ youth from the dangerous practice of “conversion therapy.” This year, Hawaii, Maryland and Washington have enacted such protections and New Hampshire has passed legislation awaiting the governor’s signature. Thirteen states and the District of Columbia now have these protections. More from HRC.
  • At least six additional pro-equality bills have passed state legislatures, including measures that protect LGBTQ inmates and add gender identity to state non-discrimination laws, and bills related to how gender markers and gender identity are recorded on birth and death certificates. More from HRC.
  • However, anti-LGBTQ bills were signed into law in Oklahoma and Kansas, giving child welfare organizations — including adoption and foster care agencies — a license to discriminate against qualified people seeking to care for a child in need, including LGBTQ couples or other parents to whom the agency has a religious objection. More from HRC.

And federally:

  • Any day now, the Supreme Court of the United States is expected to rule in Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, a case involving a baker who in 2012 refused to provide a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. That means the Supreme Court could decide whether doors can be closed to some or whether they must be #OpenToAll. More from HRC.
  • Challenges to the Trump-Pence transgender military ban continue. In April, a federal court in Seattle found that the implementation plan of the ban violates the Constitution, and that the lawsuit brought by Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN — in which HRC is an organizational plaintiff — can proceed to trial. The latest from HRC.
  • HRC continues to expose “The Real Mike Pence,” who has flown under the radar, amassing enormous power and quietly spearheading a charge to radically undermine the rights of LGBTQ people and women, attack voting rights, undercut sound science, and enable the greatest assault on American institutions in modern history. More from HRC.
  • Education Sec. Betsy DeVos has spent her time in office relentlessly attacking the rights of transgender students, youth of color, survivors of sexual assault and students with disabilities. HRC and artist Robin Bell recently projected a message to DeVos onto the U.S. Department of Education building, highlighting the harrowing results of a groundbreaking HRC survey of 12,000 LGBTQ. And here’s DeVos telling Congress she won’t protect trans kids — despite court rulings. Check it out at HRC.
  • Despite these attacks, LGBTQ teens are overwhelmingly proud of who they are:

.@HRC’s new comprehensive #LGBTQYouthReport found that supportive families and inclusive schools are key to #LGBTQ youth succeeding and thriving. ️‍ t.co/6KAekNEDDm pic.twitter.com/0xtqBgWulh

— Human Rights Campaign (@HRC) May 31, 2018

And from coast to coast, HRC’s staff, members and volunteers are fanning out to support voter registration efforts, phone banking, candidate events, grassroots advocacy trainings, and step up visibility and outreach at LGBTQ Pride parades, festivals and other events. The Summer of Action will also intensify HRC’s already-unprecedented grassroots effort to engage equality-minded voters in key states and congressional districts ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.

Donald Trump came for Samantha Bee on Friday morning, screeching for the network to fire her after she apologized for calling Ivanka Trump the C-word.

Tweeted Trump: “Why aren’t they firing no talent Samantha Bee for the horrible language used on her low ratings show? A total double standard but that’s O.K., we are Winning, and will be doing so for a long time to come!”

Rise up. Speak up. Show up this National LGBTQ Pride Month

Rise up. Speak up. Show up this National LGBTQ Pride Month

Today, HRC is proud to kick off National LGBTQ Pride Month, a time when we honor our history and recommit to resisting anti-equality forces working to undo our hard-earned progress.

Our History

Pride month coincides with the anniversary of the famous Stonewall Riots in New York City. On June 28, 1969, when New York City police began again harassing LGBTQ patrons of the Stonewall Inn simply for congregating, those patrons decided they’d had enough. LGBTQ activists stood up and bravely fought back. From those early demonstrations grew a modern social movement determined to rid the nation of discrimination against all LGBTQ Americans.

Taking Action

In 2018, LGBTQ advocates and allies continue to fight for full equality across the nation under the Trump-Pence administration’s hateful policies and rhetoric, while defending the hard-fought progress we’ve made over the years.

We aren’t just resisting at the federal level, we are fighting back against anti-LGBTQ state legislators attempting to undermine the fundamental civil rights of LGBTQ people across America. We have been going on offense with HRC Rising – our largest grassroots expansion ever — because we simply can’t afford to wait. Never underestimate the power of your voice and actions to create change.

Click here to find a Pride event in your area and join HRC and thousands of others to celebrate  LGBTQ progress and equality while also checking to make sure you’re registered to vote.

Text UNITE to 30644 to join HRC’s Mobile Action Network. Participate with our vast legion of supporters to help mobilize your community to change hearts and minds across the country by becoming an HRC volunteer.

Celebrating on Social Media

Use the hashtags #Pride, #Pride2018, #LoveIsLove, #LoveWins and #PrideParade in one of fifteen languages to unlock special Pride emojis on Twitter.

On Facebook, use the rainbow reaction to show your pride in your posts and responses.

Though Stonewall’s legacy is cemented in history, LGBTQ progress remains under attack in the Trump-Pence era. HRC takes inspiration from the brave members of our community who stood up for themselves — and all of us — at Stonewall, and is committed to ensuring all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, are treated equally and with dignity under the law.

Make sure you rise up, speak up and show up this Pride month, and in November to make your voice is heard at the ballot box.

4 – Ian McKellen e a representatividade gay no cinema
