Must-See LGBTQ TV: ‘Man in an Orange Shirt’ comes to PBS, ‘Nanette’ on Netflix, and the MTV Movie & TV Awards

On Sunday, PBS will air Masterpiece’s Man in an Orange Shirt, a film that tells two love stories sixty years apart. Set in England in both the modern day and World War II era, the film shows a romance between an officer and an artist, and the many challenges they faced due to laws and culture of the time. Man in an Orange Shirt also follows the officer’s grandson as he navigates casual hookups before finding something more meaningful, while learning the truth about his grandfather. Man in an Orange Shirt: Sunday, 9pm on PBS.

This Monday, MTV will air their second annual Movie & TV Awards, which honor both movies and TV of the past year. The special Trailblazer award will be given to out actress, writer, and producer Lena Waithe for her groundbreaking work in the industry. Other LGBTQ-inclusive nominees include the kiss in Love, Simon between Nick Robinson and out actor Keiynan Lonsdale, and acting nominations for Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, and Kate McKinnon. This Wednesday, out lesbian comedian Hannah Gadsby’s new stand up special Nanette lands on Netflix. In it, she speaks about her personal life, gender-based violence, and the homophobia within Australia surrounding the recent vote for marriage equality. She does this all while making her audience laugh, and discussing the nature of her comedy. Nanette: Wednesday on Netflix.

Walking Dead actor Daniel Newman lit up the comment threads on his Instagram this week after sharing a series of photos with Tanner, one of the most popular models with adult film studio Sean Cody.

The two were seen frolicking around a lake on jet skis in two videos posted to the site. When fans started calling out Tanner in the comments section, Newman played coy, responding “Lol. Whoa. I’m amazed you all know him. Love you guys but I don’t talk about my private life,”

Newman came out as gay in 2016 after being told by a young homeless woman that doing so could help change lives.

Lord Ivar Mountbatten, Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, who come out as gay in an article in the Mail on Sunday in September 2016, and made history as the first member of the Royal Family to come out of the closet, is getting married. Ivar is a a great-great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria. He met Coyle at Verbier, a resort in Switzerland.

Lord Ivar’s former wife Penny, will give him away when he marries Coyle on Mountbatten’s country estate in Devon, UK, according to a lengthy Daily Mail report in the New Zealand Herald.
