One day after it added a non-discrimination clause to its funding agreement, Provo Utah’s America’s Freedom Festival rejected entry applications for 5 LGBTQ groups which had applied to be in its parade and festival. The festival is a taxpayer-funded non-profit which receives $100,000 from Utah  County.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports: ‘A prepared statement issued by the Freedom Festival on Wednesday afternoon said 22 applicants were rejected because they “were deemed outside the parameters of the parade guidelines.” It went on to say that the organization fairly reviewed each parade application “in full alignment with the Freedom Festival’s nondiscrimination policy.” The unsigned statement did not identify those groups, nor the 80 applicants accepted, except to say they match the parade’s newly announced theme “United We Stand,” saluting military members and “others who have given much to our beloved country.”’

A petition online calls on taxpayer funding to be pulled from the festival.

RUDY GIULIANI. Michael Cohen won’t flip: “I checked into this last night. RAY MABUS. Former Navy Secretary on Donald Trump’s transgender military policy: “This notion that all of this work’s been done and these people felt safe as transgender, felt safe coming out, joining the military, and then suddenly the rug gets jerked out from under — it’s not the way to treat patriots, it’s not the way to build a great military force either.”

Q: “In tennis, should women earn as much as men?”

Nadal: “It’s a comparison we shouldn’t even make. Female models earn more than male models and nobody says anything. Why? Because they have a larger following. In tennis too, who gathers a larger audience earns more”.

HRC Endorses Colin Allred for U.S. Congress

HRC Endorses Colin Allred for U.S. Congress

HRC announced its endorsement of Colin Allred for U.S. Congress in Texas’ 32nd Congressional District.

During the 2017 legislative session in Texas, Allred was an outspoken critic of the anti-transgender legislation SB6. Allred, a former NFL player, signed onto a letter opposing the legislation, authored by Athlete Ally. Allred is a civil rights attorney and a North Texas native.

“Colin Allred has been a consistent ally to the LGBTQ community, and he would continue to be one if elected to Congress,” said Marty Rouse, national field director for the Human Rights Campaign. “HRC is proud to endorse Colin Allred and fight alongside him to ensure that all Texans are represented in Congress, no matter who they are, what they look like, or whom they love.”

“I am honored to receive the Human Rights Campaign endorsement,” said Colin Allred. “As a civil rights attorney and ally, I have seen the struggles of the LGBTQ community. In Congress, I will fight for equality alongside the Human Rights Campaign. Together, we will move one step closer to achieving equal rights for all.”

In 2017, HRC had more than a dozen staff on the ground in Austin, and, working with scores of volunteer organizers, led field organizing efforts around the state to defeat anti-LGBTQ bills in the Texas legislature. HRC has worked alongside Equality Texas, ACLU of Texas, Texas Freedom Network, the Transgender Education Network of Texas and others to defeat dangerous or harmful bills that seek to undermine the rights and dignity of LGBTQ Texans. HRC continues to have full-time staff in the Lone Star State.
