Must-See LGBTQ TV: Don’t miss the ‘Pose’ premiere, ‘Sense8’ and ‘The Fosters’ finales, ‘Alex Strangelove,’ and more!

The 1980’s set ballroom drama Pose premieres Sunday on FX. This new show helmed by Ryan Murphy and Steven Canals shows the thriving New York ballroom scene of the era, led by queer and trans people of color, and the real life struggles they were facing too. Pose has already made history by including the largest transgender cast on TV. There is trans talent behind the scenes as well, including Janet Mock, Our Lady J, Silas Howard and more. In the premiere, Blanca pursues her dream of becoming a house mother and Damon works toward his own dream. Pose: Sunday, 9pm on FX.

The three-part finale of The Fosters airs this week, one episode every night Monday through Wednesday. Wrapping five seasons of one of TV’s most inclusive shows, The Fosters broke new ground with not only a family helmed by an interracial lesbian couple, but one with a gay son as well, and more and more queer and trans characters as the series went on. In the finale, the family travels to Turks & Caicos for Brandon’s destination wedding, but as time passes it seems like there may not be a wedding at all. Meanwhile, Lena and Stef make a decision that could change the family forever. There will be a spinoff of The Fosters following characters Callie and Mariana making their way in Los Angeles coming to Freeform soon. The Fosters: Monday-Wednesday, 8pm on Freeform.

The long anticipated series finale of Sense8 will be released Friday. The GLAAD Media Award-winning drama is executive produced by out trans filmmakers Lilly and Lana Wachowski and features multiple queer and trans characters on a science fiction adventure. After its unfortunate cancellation after two season, fans rallied and Netflix green lit this feature length finale. In the finale, personal lives are pushed aside as the cluster, their sidekicks, and some unexpected allies band together for a rescue mission and BPO take-down in order to protect the future of all Sensates. Sense8: Friday on Netflix.

On Friday a new queer teen movie, Alex Strangelove, premieres on Netflix. From out writer/director Craig Johnson, the film tells the story of the titular Alex, a senior in high school who has plans to lose his virginity to his long term girlfriend. This changes when he meets the new handsome and charming gay kid who unwittingly sends Alex on a rollercoaster journey of sexual identity, kicking off a hilarious and moving exploration of love, sex and friendship.
