‘Drag Race’ Queen Reveals New Details About the ‘Gay Exorcism’ Forced on Her by Family
As much as it is a competition to find America’s next drag superstar, RuPaul’s Drag Race is a showcase of the human ability to endure and overcome painful hardship, from bullying and drug addiction to being abandoned at a bus stop by a parent as a child. But even by the show’s standards, Dusty Ray Bottom’s…

HRC Endorses California Senator Dianne Feinstein for Re-Election
HRC Endorses California Senator Dianne Feinstein for Re-Election
Today, HRC announced its endorsement of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
“From the earliest days of her career as one of California’s most devoted public servants, Senator Feinstein has been a stalwart supporter of the LGBTQ community,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “As Donald Trump and Mike Pence attempt to undo our progress and drag our country backwards, Senator Feinstein is standing up to this administration’s dangerous attacks on LGBTQ people and fighting for the equal dignity of all Americans. HRC is proud to endorse Senator Feinstein’s bid for reelection and we look forward to continuing to work with her to secure full federal equality.”
“I want to sincerely thank the Human Rights Campaign for their powerful work promoting LGBTQ civil rights across America and for endorsing my reelection,” said Senator Feinstein. “As Supervisor and Mayor of San Francisco, and as California’s Senator, I’ve always been proud to support the LGBTQ community, and I look forward to continuing my work with HRC in campaigns, courtrooms and Congress to achieve equality for all.”
Senator Feinstein scored a perfect 100 on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard for the 114th and 113th Congress. She is an original cosponsor of the Equality Act and was a leader in the fight to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Back in 1993, Feinstein was one of only 33 Senators to vote against “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and in 1996 she was one of only 14 Senators to vote against DOMA. Under the leadership of then-Mayor Feinstein, San Francisco prioritized funding for research and treatment during the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Senator Feinstein has continued to fight for funding for global and domestic HIV prevention programs. Most recently, Senator Feinstein has continued to hold the Trump-Pence administration accountable for their attacks against the LGBTQ community — especially the harmful actions by Betsy DeVos and Jeff Sessions. She has also been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump’s discriminatory ban on transgender service members.
Last summer, HRC announced a bold, proactive grassroots expansion with the launch of HRC Rising — a campaign to accelerate progress in states from coast-to-coast, resist the politics of hate, fight anti-LGBTQ legislation, and fuel pro-equality candidates and initiatives. The expansion is the biggest strategic investment in the organization’s 37-year history. HRC has identified more than 8,800,000 Californians as likely “Equality Voters,” meaning they are strong supporters of progressive LGBTQ policies including marriage equality, adoption by LGBTQ people, and laws that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Ugandan President Wants to Ban Oral Sex: ‘The Mouth is for Eating’ – WATCH
Ugandan President Wants to Ban Oral Sex: ‘The Mouth is for Eating’ – WATCH
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is warning citizens (above) not to engage in “outsider” practices like oral sex because “the mouth is for eating.”
“Let me take this opportunity to warn our people publicly,” he said in a recent television appearance, “about the wrong practices indulged in and promoted by some of the outsiders.”
“One of them is what they call oral sex,” he continued. “The mouth is for eating. Not for sex.”
Homosexuality has been illegal in Uganda since the Colonial era.
In recent years, legislators fought to pass what was familiarly known as the “kill the gays” bill that would have made homosexual acts punishable by death. In 2013, a watered-down version of the law that threw out the death sentence and replaced it with life in prison was passed, but was later annulled by Uganda’s Constitutional Court.
Museveni, a supporter of the bill, denied that the decision to scrap the law had anything to do with the U.S.-Africa Summit taking place soon after it was scrapped, and called receiving foreign aid in exchange for the fair treatment of his country’s LGBT community “sinful” after several countries said they would withhold aid in response to Uganda’s persecution of LGBT people.
In 2014, Uganda criminalized the transmission of HIV.

HRC Endorses Rep. Ruben Gallego for Re-election
HRC Endorses Rep. Ruben Gallego for Re-election
HRC announced its endorsement of Congressman Ruben Gallego (R-AZ) for re-election to Arizona’s seventh Congressional District.
“Throughout his time in public service, Rep. Gallego has proven himself to be a stalwart champion for the LGBTQ community,” said HRC Arizona State Manager Justin Unga. “He has stood by us in the fight for full federal equality and HRC is proud to endorse him for re-election. We look forward to working with him to move equality forward both in Arizona and across the country.”
“The Human Rights Campaign is a critical partner in the fight for social justice and I couldn’t be any prouder to have their endorsement,” said Rep Gallego. “Their work has directly improved the lives of millions of LGBTQ Americans, and our country is so much stronger for it. I look forward to continuing to partner with the Human Rights Campaign during my next term in Congress.”
As a member of the Arizona State House in 2014, Rep. Gallego helped lead the opposition to a dangerous expansion of Arizona’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which could have granted a broad license to discriminate against LGBTQ people. In the United States House of Representatives, he has been a staunch advocate for the LGBTQ community, serving as a vice chair of the chamber’s LGBT Equality Caucus, and cosponsoring the Equality Act, landmark federal legislation that would guarantee the same basic nondiscrimination protections to LGBTQ people provided for other protected characteristics under federal law. He currently holds a perfect 100 on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard, which measures members’ of Congress support for LGBTQ equality.
HRC recently announced a bold, proactive grassroots expansion with the launch of HRC Rising — a campaign to accelerate progress in states from coast-to-coast, resist the politics of hate, fight anti-LGBTQ legislation, and fuel pro-equality candidates and initiatives. The campaign is the biggest strategic expansion in the organization’s 38-year history and will include significant investments in Arizona. HRC has identified more than 800,000 Arizonans as likely Equality Voters, meaning they are strong supporters of progressive LGBTQ policies including marriage equality, equitable family law, and laws that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

GLAAD teams with Music Biz for ‘Power of Queer Storytelling in Song’ panel
GLAAD teams with Music Biz for ‘Power of Queer Storytelling in Song’ panel
The Music Business Association (Music Biz) is teaming with GLAAD to present the “Trendspotting: The Power of Queer Storytelling in Song“ panel, which will be held May 17 at 9 a.m. CT during the Music Biz 2018 conference at the Omni Nashville Hotel in Nashville. Led by GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, the panel will gather leading artists and songwriters to discuss the importance of LGBTQ representation in the music industry, both lyrically and behind the scenes. Panelists will include Justin Tranter, a GLAAD board member and award-winning songwriter, musician, and activist; Shane McAnally, CEO of SMACKSongs and an award-winning Country music songwriter and producer; and Shea Diamond, an up-and-coming singer and songwriter.
“I believe the sheer power of song has the ability to unite people through a shared, innate appreciation of words and melody,” said James Donio, President of Music Biz. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the artistic and business contributions of those who are illuminating the full breadth of the human experience are nurtured and represented. We are thrilled to welcome GLAAD as a program partner again this year to help us highlight the work of LGBTQ individuals in our industry, and call for even more opportunities for participation as we move music, and the world, forward.”
“Music has the power to move hearts and minds, and we are seeing a new level of inclusion take shape in the industry. I’m thrilled that GLAAD is partnering with Music Biz to bring this important conversation to the conference,” said Ellis. “I am looking forward to hearing what these inspiring and groundbreaking creators have to say about the past, present, and future of LGBTQ inclusion in the music industry.”
Sarah Kate Ellis is the President and CEO of GLAAD, where she refocused the organization’s crucial advocacy to accelerate acceptance of the LGBTQ community through a variety of compelling and effective initiatives, campaigns, and programs. Ellis has used GLAAD’s position as the world’s leading media advocacy organization to demand fair and accurate coverage of the LGBTQ community. Prior to joining GLAAD, she led national media brands, notably growing Real Simple into one of Time Inc.’s most respected and successful magazines. Her vision also transformed and energized leading media outlets including Vogue, InStyle, New York, and House & Garden. Ellis served as SVP of Global Marketing at Martini Media, a digital firm specializing in online branding, public relations, and marketing.
Justin Tranter is a Golden Globe and GRAMMY Award-nominated songwriter, musician and activist. He has written songs for Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Linkin Park, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, DNCE, Kesha, Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, Julia Michaels, Janelle Monae, and many others. Formerly, Tranter was the lead singer of the rock band Semi Precious Weapons. He now lives and works in Los Angeles, and is an active board member of GLAAD.
Shane McAnally is a multiple CMA, ACM, and GRAMMY Award-winning Country music songwriter and producer who currently works with Kacey Musgraves, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, and more. When he is not in the studio, he is serving as co-head of Monument Records and is the CEO and Co-Founder of SMACKSongs, a publishing, management, and artist development company. In 2017, Billboard ranked SMACKSongs #7 among Nashville music publishers, marking its fourth consecutive year in the Top 10. In 2016, McAnally arranged and produced “Forever Country,” which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, making it the third song to debut at #1 on the chart since it began in 1958. He also co-wrote the 4x-Platinum hit “Body Like a Back Road,” which broke the record for longest reigning #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. McAnally has been named the 2014 ACM Songwriter of the Year, 2015 Billboard Hot Country Songwriter of the Year, 2015 Music Row Songwriter of the Year, and 2016-2017 NMPA Songwriter of the Year.
ShaGasyia “Shea” Diamond is a singer/songwriter who wrote the song “I Am Her,” while serving a 10-year sentence in a male prison. The song is an anthem for everyone who has ever felt shunned for simply being who they are, and empowers listeners to continue living as their true self. Diamond was discovered by Justin Tranter in 2016, who says about her, “It’s been a long time since I’ve come across a real artist with a real story who is actually putting that story in their music, and Miss Diamond does that with every note she sings.” She has received acclaim from Billboard, Time, OUT, GLAAD, Paper, and BULLETT. Her debut EP is set to release in 2018.
