RUSSIA. U.S. sanctions Russian businessmen, companies and government officials: “The Treasury Department sanctions on seven Russian oligarchs and 12 companies they own or control, plus 17 senior Russian government officials, are likely to complicate U.S. President Donald Trump’s hopes for good relations with Putin.”

VIRAL YODELER. Drag Race contestant Blair St. Clair takes on the yodeling Walmart kid who went viral this week.

Qanon. The conspiracy theory that says Trump is a genius. ‘“You cannot possibly imagine the size of this,” said a Q dispatch last month. “Trust the plan. Trust there are more good than bad.” Q almost certainly doesn’t know any state secrets, but he, she, or they understand that some fervent Trump supporters require more reassurance than they’re willing to admit. Their desperate conviction that they will be proven right about Trump betrays a secret fear that they will be proven wrong.’

WHY DID YOU WAIT? Trump asked why drone strike didn’t kill terrorist’s family too.

Paul ManafortRUSSIA PROBE. Mueller moved to seize three bank accounts and obtained search warrant for 5 phone numbers related to Manafort indictment: ‘On March 9, the special counsel’s office obtained a search warrant for information related to “five telephone numbers controlled by AT&T,” the prosecution said. It did not reveal who the numbers belonged to, although it said some information about the search was given to Manafort’s defense on Wednesday, so presumably there is some connection to the veteran political consultant who held a top role in the Trump campaign for several months in 2016.’

BIG LITTLE LIES. Here’s the first look at Meryl Streep.

Bermuda gay marriageBERMUDA. Carnival Cruises joins fight against gay marriage ban: “While we always abide by the laws of the countries we sail to and from, we believe travel and tourism brings people and cultures together in powerful ways. As a result, we believe it is important to stand by the LGBTQ community in Bermuda and its many allies to oppose any actions that restrict travel and tourism.”

MISSISSIPPI. Court rules that woman has parental rights to a 6-year-old boy born to her ex-wife when the two were married: ‘Christina “Chris” Strickland brought the appeal, challenging a lower court decision that an anonymous sperm donor still had parental rights and that Strickland did not. Strickland ultimately hopes to win 50-50 custody of Zayden Strickland, who bears her last name and was born by Kimberly Day through artificial means when Day and Strickland were married.’

ON THE RAG. This week on the gay magazines.

NEW TUNE OF THE DAY. Underworld returns with “Brilliant Yes That Would Be”.

ON STAGE. Broadway carrying a torch for the gay plays of the 20th century.

SURPRISE CANNES PARODY. Solo: A Star Wars Story. ‘The Cannes Film Festival this morning confirmed Deadline’s scoop that Solo: A Star Wars Story will premiere at Cannes to become the third film in the series to come to the Croisette after 2002’s Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Find the official announcement below the original story break.’

LYRIC VIDEO OF THE DAY. Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa “One Kiss”.

FRIDAY FLASH. Tony.

Make collaboration the heart of your live streams, podcasts, and videos with Skype for Content Creators

We have an exciting few days ahead as this weekend the Skype team will receive the Emmy® Award for Technology & Engineering at the ceremony in Las Vegas.

With Emmy in hand, you’ll find us at the NAB Show from April 912, in Booth SL6716, where we will announce our next innovation for Skype—which will put content creation at the heart of the Skype for Desktop app.

Now in preview, Skype for Content Creators is designed to open new interactive possibilities for our users all over the world—including leading digital broadcasters, streamers, and vloggers—to record videos, podcasts, and live streaming calls without having to invest in expensive studio equipment.

With Skype for Content Creators, Windows 10 and Mac users will be able to select the Content Creators mode to place and record calls directly within NDI®enabled software such as:

Once the call is recorded, content can be easily imported into apps such as Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Audition for editing. In addition, users can customize the look and feel of the call—so they can be part of a live show ready for streaming to audiences of all sizes.

Image showing four vloggers using Skype for Content Creators, now in preview.

There’s no need for additional recording or screen capture solutions. Skype will provide clean feeds of all group video call participants to your choice of NDI®-enabled software, dramatically simplifying the process of using Skype within collaborative content.

Skype now unlocks the content from within the Skype for Desktop app, making it easier than ever to use the audio and video to create collaborative, engaging content with as little as two steps from setting up the call to livestreaming your call to a platform of your choice.

Death Penalty Sought in Killing of Transgender Missouri Teen

Death Penalty Sought in Killing of Transgender Missouri Teen
Andrew Vrba

Andrew Vrba

The death penalty is being sought for Andrew Vrba, a 19-year-old charged in the murder of transgender teen Ally Steinfeld, 17.

ally steinfeld missouri

Vrba and 19-year-old Isis Schauer and 24-year-old Briana Calderas were arraigned in September on charges including first-degree murder, armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse. James T. Grigsby was also charged with abandonment of a corpse and tampering with evidence in a felony case.

steinfeld murder

The last people known to have been with Steinfeld were Vrba, Schauer and Calderas. The victim’s family had spoken to the three suspects who they believed to be lying about Steinfeld’s whereabouts.

When question by police, Schauer denied any part in the victim’s disappearance. However, it is alleged that Facebook messages were found on Schauer’s phone telling her to “stick to the story” and “quit talking.” The messages are believed to have been sent by Vrba who later admitted that he killed Steinfeld. Vrba said that he initially tried to poison the teen and then stabbed her in Calderas’ mobile home. Schauer later admitted she was aware of the killing and helped get rid of the body.

Vrba also alleged that he, Schauer and Calderas burned Steinfeld’s body, placed some of the bones into a garbage bag and left the bag in a chicken coop. Schauer and Calderas said Vrba told them he had gouged out Steinfeld’s eyes, stabbed her in the genitals and bragged about the killing.

Calderas admitted Steinfeld was killed at her home and that she helped burn the body. She said she did not want Steinfeld dead but Schauer and Vrba claim Calderas mentioned several days earlier that she wanted Steinfeld to die.

Steinfeld’s sister Ashleigh Boswell said she was “a very loving, outgoing person” who “didn’t like conflict whatsoever” and she had talked to the family about undergoing gender reassignment surgery one day.

“We honestly don’t understand why they done it,” she added. “It just don’t make any sense.”

Officials said the killing wasn’t a hate crime.

Trump will not attend the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) but Sarah Huckabee Sanders will represent the White House at the head table, Axios reports:

“The White House has informed us that the president does not plan to participate in this year’s dinner but that he will actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend and join us as we celebrate the First Amendment. In keeping with tradition, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also will represent the administration at the head table. STATE LAWMAKERS EMPHASIZE CRUCIAL NEED TO PASS THE PENNSYLVANIA FAIRNESS ACT: Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and state lawmakers reiterated the need to pass SB 613, the Pennsylvania Fairness Act. “We welcome these renewed calls to pass the Pennsylvania Fairness Act, which would extend equal and comprehensive non-discrimination protections to LGBTQ Pennsylvanians,” said HRC Pennsylvania State Manager Allison Van Kuiken. “But Governor Wolf and the bill’s cosponsors cannot drive progress alone. For too long, lawmakers in the General Assembly have refused to take action to protect the thousands of LGBTQ Pennsylvanians at risk of losing their jobs or being denied services simply because of who they are.” More from HRC.

Young LGBTQ Coloradans deserve to live their lives authentically and should never be subjected to the abusive practice of so-called conversion therapy.” More from HRC.

GLAAD launches #AskPompeo campaign to pressure senators to hold Mike Pompeo accountable for his personal ties to anti-LGBTQ hate and extremism

GLAAD launches #AskPompeo campaign to pressure senators to hold Mike Pompeo accountable for his personal ties to anti-LGBTQ hate and extremism

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today launched a campaign to expose Mike Pompeo’s personal ties to anti-LGBTQ hate and extremism and pressure members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations to hold Pompeo accountable to his anti-LGBTQ record in his upcoming confirmation hearing for the position of Secretary of State.

“During his time in the Trump Administration, Mike Pompeo has personally consulted with Family Research Council, an anti-LGBTQ hate group that supported Uganda’s efforts to punish and execute LGBTQ people. The American people deserve answers about Pompeo’s ties to anti-LGBTQ extremism, which should have no place in the U.S. State Department,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “Unless Mike Pompeo can unequivocally state that LGBTQ rights are human rights, he is wholly unqualified to be the nation’s top diplomat.”

Mike Pompeo’s anti-LGBTQ record goes far beyond his personal beliefs opposing marriage equality and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Pompeo has worked closely with the Family Research Council, an anti-LGBTQ group which openly supported Uganda’s efforts to punish and execute LGBTQ citizens – known as the “Kill the Gays Bill, ” promotes and defends the dangerous practice of conversions therapy, and actively opposed overturning laws that criminalize homosexuality. Meanwhile, Pompeo earned Family Research Council’s endorsement and praise, appearing on their anti-LGBTQ radio program at least six times, and personally consulting with their president, Tony Perkins, while serving the United States as CIA Director.

The following research exposing Mike Pompeo’s disturbingly close ties with the Family Research Council will be delivered to the offices of all 21 members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations today by GLAAD Campus Ambassador Tony Hernandez.

GLAAD is asking these members to take this research into full consideration and ask Mike Pompeo one of the following during his upcoming nomination hearing and urging other LGBTQ, reproductive rights, Muslim, and immigrant rights organizations to join the conversation by using the #AskPompeo.

GLAAD’s Suggested Questions to Mike Pompeo:

  • Do you believe protecting the human rights of the LGBTQ people abroad is an important aspect of U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy?

  • Given your record of working closely with Family Research Council, which has supported the efforts of the Ugandan government to punish and execute LGBTQ citizens, do you think you have the credibility to will you advocate for LGBTQ human rights abroad?

  • Do you believe that LGBTQ rights are human rights?

GLAAD’s research is also being hand delivered to the offices of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, calling on them to lead Democrats in opposition to Pompeo’s confirmation.

____________________________

Anti-LGBTQ Record of the Family Research Council (FRC):

Actively lobbied against a congressional resolution denouncing Uganda’s “kill the gays bill:” “The blog Joe. My. God.,working with a reporter from Gay City News, reported that the conservative Family Research Council spent $25,000 “to lobby Congress against approving a resolution denouncing Uganda’s plan to execute homosexuals. The site posted three screencaps from the Family Research Council’s lobbying report; they suggest $25,000 was spent on lobbying what FRC described as “Res.1064Ugandan ResolutionPro-homosexual promotion.” [CBS News; 6.4.10]

Claimed the Ugandan bill that aimed to punish and execute LGBTQ people “upholds moral conduct:” The President [Obama] criticized Ugandan leaders for considering enhanced penalties for crimes related to homosexuality…The President said that “We may disagree about gay marriage, “but surely we can agree that it is unconscionable to target gays and lesbians for who they are.” Mr. President as long as you characterize efforts to uphold moral conduct that protects others and in particular the most vulnerable, as attacking people, civility will continue to evade us.” [Family Research Council via the Internet Archive; 2.4.10]

Opposed overturning Texas “Homosexual Conduct” law, which criminalized consensual sexual intimacy between same-sex couples: “To extend homosexual sodomy the same protections given to the marital union would undermine the definition of marriage and could open the door for homosexual marriage. The court should demonstrate judicial humility and decline to deconstruct in radical and revolutionary ways the bedrock social institution of marriage.’” [Family Research Council via the Internet Archive; 6.25.03]

Spent over $75,000 to lobby to keep “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” in place: “The Traditional Values Coalition and the Family Research Council, have each spent more than $75,000 so far on their overall lobbying expenditures this year. Both groups support keeping the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in place.” [Open Secrets; 11.3.10]. Family Research Council President, Tony Perkins, also claimed there is “blood of young marines” on hands of legislators who voted to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. [YouTube, Right Wing Watch; 11.20.10]

Lobbied against LGBTQ-inclusive hate crimes legislation: “Social conservatives said the hate crimes bill would violate the First Amendment, and would be a step toward a larger gay rights agenda they oppose. ‘Expanding hate crimes puts America in lock step with the stated agenda of homosexual activists who will turn next to the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act, followed by the repeal of the ban on homosexuality in the military and then the Defense of Marriage Act,’ the Family Research Council warned on its Web site.” [The Washington Post; 10.23.09]

Printed and disturbed flyers defending the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy: “Although much attention has been focused on counseling techniques or therapies for unwanted same-sex attractions and on the work of “ex-gay” ministries, there is startling evidence that considerable numbers of people experience significant change in some aspects of sexual orientation, particularly their behavior, quite spontaneously, without therapeutic intervention.”[Family Research Council via the Internet Archive; 7.5.10]

Testified in favor of anti-LGBTQ conversion therapy before legislative bodies in New Hampshire, Washington D.C., Maryland, Massachusetts, and Vermont: “Testimony by Peter Sprigg in Opposition to New Hampshire House Bill S. 587-FN” [Family Research Council; 2.21.17], “FRC’s Peter Sprigg Testifies before D.C. Council on Proposed Sexual Orientation Change Efforts Ban” [Family Research Council; 6.27.14], “FRC’s Peter Sprigg Testifies Before MD State House in Opposition to Bill Prohibiting Sexual Orientation Therapy for Minors” [Family Research Council; 3.2.18], “Family Research Council Expert Testifies Before Massachusetts General Court” [Family Research Council; 6.7.17], Testimony by Peter Sprigg in Opposition to Vermont Bill S. 132 [Family Research Council; 2.26.16]

Lobbied against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) proposed legislation that would prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. [Open Secrets; bills FRC lobbied, 2013]

Mike Pompeo’s Connections to Family Research Council:

Consulted with Tony Perkins while serving as CIA Director: “Pompeo has consulted with Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, an organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled an anti-gay hate group.” [The Washington Post; 8.24.17].

Has made (at least) six appearances on Family Research Council’s anti-LGBTQ radio show. Live with Tony Perkins: October 6, 2016; March 22, 2016; July 26, 2016; September 3; 2015; July 22, 2015; May 5, 2014.

Family Research Council endorsed Mike Pompeo during his re-election to the U.S. House in 2014, specifically citing his “support for marriage” and “traditional family values” as reasons behind their support: The culture has been challenged beyond all reasonable limits. The strong, conservative men and women elected in 2010 and 2012 need reinforcements…The votes you have cast on the life issue reflect your concern for mother and child and your support for marriage as between one man and one woman.” [Pompeo for Congress, 3.5.14]

One of thirty House of Representative members to join the Family Research Council on an amicus brief challenging the Affordable Care Act in the case National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius. [FRC; 10.27.11]

Mike Pompeo’s Personal Anti-LGBTQ Record:

Vowed to continue to fight against abortion, marriage equality, and related matters “each and every day:” As a Kansan, I hold a deep reverence for the sanctity of life, the solidarity of family, and the solemnity of marriage. I will continue the fight to uphold these fundamental ideals each and every day…I also fully support the traditional institution of marriage. Strong families are the most important building block of our Republic, and we must preserve them for the sake of our community and our culture. [Vote Smart; 1.1.13]

Insists families with same-sex parents are less “ideal”: “I think as you look back at civilization, look back at history, you find the strength of these families having a father and a mother is the ideal condition for childbearing,” Pompeo said. “Doesn’t mean there aren’t great families with single parents, great young men and women raised without either parent. If you’re asking for what is ideal, I think it’s being raised by a man and a woman.” [Vote Smart; 10.22.14]

Opposed the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, suggesting that “when you enter the army you give up a few of your rights, there’s a few things that you can’t do that we get to do a civilians, so I would not a have supported that policy—or would.” [YouTube; September 23, 2010 District 4 Congressional Debate; 9.14.10]

Called the US Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling granting marriage equality to all fifty states as “a shocking abuse of power:” “Creating, out of nowhere, a federal right to marry, flies in the face of centuries of shared understanding of our Constitution,” Pompeo said in an email Friday. “It is a shocking abuse of power. It is wrong. I will continue to fight to protect our most sacred institutions; Kansans and our nation deserve no less.” [Vote Smart; 6.26.15]

Dinner at Sweeties

Dinner at Sweeties

Julie Bracken posted a photo:

Dinner at Sweeties

I had dinner with my sweetie
At her home the other night
I knew she’d make a special treat
At least I hoped she might

She set out all the crockery fine
With her best linen pressed
Silver knives and forks and spoons
I really was impressed

I said “What’s for dinner sweetie?”
She flashed a cheeky smile
And replied “I know you’ll love it
It’ll be ready in just a while”

Well I got a little suspicious
For I noticed that no smell
Was coming from her kitchen
And no food was there as well

Nothing cooking on the stove
No sign of chook nor fish
And she knew spaghetti marinara
Was my favourite dish

The stereo played slow love songs
The candles were aglow
She certainly was cooking something up
But what? I did not know

As she led me away from the kitchen
My hopes began to crumble
When she took me to the main bedroom
I heard my tummy rumble

She set me down upon the bed
And then to my surprise
She grabbed a blood red silken tie
And wrapped it round my eyes

I started feeling worried
This was not her normal behaviour
What could be for dinner here
And what could I find to savour?

I could hear her rustling round a bit
What was taking her so long
I’d known her over six months now
But could I have judged her wrong?

Did she have a darker side?
Was she into kinky stuff?
Well everything here seemed OK
I knew I just had to trust

Then I felt her hand so gentle
As she slowly released my blindfold
I opened my eyes and before me
Was such a sight to behold

She had totally turned her body
From her crown to her toenail tip
Into a savoury sensation
And in her hand… a packet of chips

Well, I could not hold back the laughter
I was rolling about in a fit
Then she held out the packet and said,
So solemn…”Would you like a dip?”

After removing the hair from the pate
To my delight it tasted divine
And she kept a supply of rice crackers
Propped up ‘tween her toes in a line

Well I tried the cream cheese on her fingers
Her belly button olives were yum
But I kept coming back for my favourite
The guacamole smeared on her buns

She’d gone to a lot of trouble
To find all my favourite things
I especially liked the arrangement
Of the cheezles and burger rings

I shared all the treats with my sweetie
Towards the end I was starting to slow
She gave me a wink and suggested
I finish off with a big cheerio

Needless to say…
There were no further courses
We sent out for pizza instead
After sweetie had showered we ate it
Propped up in our crumb filled bed

Now our relationship’s taken on new meaning
As we share in our new found delight
In fact I’ve invited my sweetie
For dessert round at my place tonight!
~ Arcadia Flynn
From her book ‘Poems from the Heart of my Bottom’
I’d better explain, that ‘cheezles and ‘burger rings’ are a savoury snack with a hole in the middle and a ‘cheerio’ is a little red sausage.
