Michael Flynn, James Comey, Trump Christmas Tree Lighting, Prince George, Ed Sheeran, Meghan Markle: HOT LINKS
BIGGEST IN HISTORY. MSNBC hosts mock sparse attendance at Trump Christmas tree lighting: “So a beautiful, balmy evening in D.C., no excuse to get outside. And you go to the Christmas tree lighting — except not many people show up.”

JAMES COMEY. Former FBI director posts Instagram after Michael Flynn plea: “But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream”
CANCELED. White House aides cancel Trump’s “working trip” to the UK: “The trip, a scaled down version of a state visit with no meeting with the Queen, was intended to allow Mr Trump to come to the UK while avoiding the mass protests a full state visit would likely trigger. However, The Telegraph can reveal that the trip has been pushed into the long grass, with no new date in the diary picked.”
SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS. Trump’s mark on the judiciary will last decades and decades. “Everyone focuses on Neil Gorsuch, which was a huge victory and something I think will have a very lasting impact and legacy on our country, but beyond that is the entire remake of the federal judiciary that is, I think, going to be one of the greatest and most important things that President Trump does in his time in office.”
JOHN WATERS. My top 10 films of 2017.
CHARLOTTE. City Council member boycotts local restaurant over anti-LGBT views: “Charlotte City Councilmember LaWana Mayfield has announced that she will be boycotting a new barbecue restaurant over its owners anti-LGBTQ views and activism. Noble Smoke will be located at 2216 Freedom Drive, the owner, Jim Noble, having signed a lease earlier this month. He also owns Charlotte restaurants King’s Kitchen and Rooster’s, as well as A Noble Grille in Winston-Salem.”
FRANK BRUNI. It’s a gay, gay, gay government.
FOCUS ON THE FAMILY. Focusing on homosexuals.
PAKISTAN. Technology blamed for spiking HIV rates: ‘“In Pakistan, there has been a rise in HIV among boys and men, due to easy access to male dating apps, because of advancement in technology, and availability of inexpensive gadgets,” said Sophia Furqan, a senior programme officer with the National Aids Control Programme in Pakistan.’
DUET OF THE DAY. Ed Sheeran and Beyonce.
FLASHBACK OF THE DAY. Meghan Markle speaks out against sexism in advertising, when she was 11.

Why’s It So Hard to Find Good Gay Friends?
Psychotherapist Matthew Dempsey is back with a new video on the art of gay friending. Dempsey notes that when he first moved to L.A. he met all kinds of people who wanted to get together and do things but he soon realized these were all pleasantries and that it was much harder to find the people who actually wanted to develop friendships.
Writes Dempsey: “You’d think it’d be easy to find your chosen family and feel like you belong in a community where everyone has struggled to come out, but side-eyes and thoughts of ‘these kweens’ often times dominate over a friendly hello.”
So Dempsey enlisted some of his friends for this video, asking them what they think makes gay friendships difficult and unique.

HRC Opposes Pennsylvania’s Anti-Transgender Candidate Paul Mango
Today, HRC responded to Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Paul Mango’s support for discriminatory laws that would bar transgender people from using public restrooms that correspond with their gender identity.
“These outrageous comments are disqualifying,” said JoDee Winterhof, HRC’s Senior Vice President for Policy and Political Affairs. “To be clear, Paul Mango is proposing to take Pennsylvania down the same path of anti-LGBTQ discrimination that has wracked North Carolina since the passage of their infamous HB2 law. In North Carolina, HB2 not only put countless LGBTQ people at risk, it resulted in a surge of hate violence and at least $886.4 million in economic losses as business fled the state. It also, notably, led to the defeat of the governor who signed it into law. On top of that, Paul Mango is running on a platform of defunding Planned Parenthood, one of the most crucial health care providers for the LGBTQ community. Paul Mango would do well to remember there are 36,000 LGBTQ voters — and millions more allies across the state of Pennsylvania — who won’t stand for these kinds of attacks on our community and our health care.”
“Mr. Mango’s comments today attacking the transgender community are disqualifying,” said JoDee Winterhof, HRC’s Senior Vice President for Policy and Political Affairs. “He doesn’t have to look further than North Carolina, where similar legislation cost the state millions of dollars in revenue. The law also cost now former Governor Pat McCrory his reelection, with 57 percent of those who voted against him doing so because of his support for the hateful law. LGBTQ Pennsylvanians and their allies will reject Mango at the ballot box come 2018 as well.”
