London’s Euston Station Hosts Christmas Dinner For The Homeless
London’s Euston station has been transformed into a festive dining hall as it awaits 200 homeless guests for Christmas dinner.
Network Rail, which runs the rail network and operates the station, joined forces with charities Streets Kitchen and St Mungo’s to host the dinner, to fill the main concourse with decorations and lay the tables for dinner.
Around 45 volunteers from Network Rail are giving up their Christmas Day to work alongside volunteers from St Mungo’s, which provides beds and support to more than 2,700 people in England, and Streets Kitchen, which feeds 1,000 people on the streets every week.

The first guests will start arriving at 11am for food, presents and goody bags of toiletries and clothes. Additionally, 200 children from local schools have made Christmas cards for all who attend the event.
Steve Naybour, head of transformation in Network Rail’s track team, who is leading the team running the event, said: “Thousands and thousands of my colleagues will already be working on Christmas Day to improve the railway for passengers.
“Working on Christmas Day is pretty much par for the course for many of us who work for Network Rail but this year, because I wasn’t scheduled to work, myself and a handful of colleagues came up with this plan to feed some of London’s homeless instead.

► Beim Sprachenlernen geht es nicht um Perfektion. Entspannt euch und achtet auf den Spaß. Durch Zeitung lesen und Filme schauen in eurer Wunschsprache kommt die Übung ganz von allein.
Macht euch dabei bewusst:
Es ist wichtig, das Lernen selbst zu initiieren und weitgehend selbst steuern zu können. Das erklärt Sprachforscher Klaus-Börge Boeckmann von der Universität in Wien laut der Zeitung.

In 2018 I Hope The Masks Drop And People See The Real Agenda Behind Brexit
As a transparency and ethics campaigner in the world of investments, charities and now politics, 2017 has been a year that has rocked my belief in the Britain I thought I lived in.
What I realised is that far from a free and fair society, our country and democracy is being hijacked, infiltrated by hostile foreign powers who are seeking to destabilise western societies. Then there are those with an illiberal democracy agenda denigrating various ‘others’ so through division they become dominant. Believers in this agenda view consumer protection, workers’ rights, human rights, the rule of law and environmental protection as non-essentials. They are only concerned with satisfying its customers, ‘the will of the people’. Surprisingly, illiberal democrats also do not seem to be overly concerned about economic growth. The view is as long as you give people choice to buy low cost products or food, who cares if they are safe? As long as the label says chlorinated chicken, it up to the public to choose. Crashing out of the EU will just create more opportunities for these individuals.
The things being smuggled in under the cover of Brexit will damage so much of what we hold dear in Britain. A cabal of tycoons would see their wealth and influence turbocharged, while the mass of the population would see their prosperity, their security and, ultimately, their liberty dwindle away. Then there are the media Billionaire Brexit cheerleaders – Murdoch, Desmond, Rothermere, the Barclay Brothers, who do not care about the public but about owning the politicians. They are the ones really taking control. Irrespective of social media, the referendum was still largely fought, and probably won, by campaigns in print and broadcast media.
Professors of Political Communications at Loughborough University analysed the referendum and found that 80% of these media were for Leave and only 20% for Remain, in terms of circulation, and with the exception of The Times and the Daily Star, all the newspapers were highly partisan in terms of editorial balance. Enemies of the people, remoaners, experts and the educated were reduced to elite, mutineers – words being used as weapons to wind up hatred and distrust.
Which brings me to the behaviour of our politicians. Politicians either being bullied or fearful, lacking the integrity, honesty or bravery to put country before party. Two main parties allowing themselves to be taken over by extremists amongst their ranks, who are power hungry, or willing fools or fantasists. Extremists on left and right, who for very different ideological reasons wish to take us back to a past that does not exist because the world has moved on.
I hope that in 2018, masks will begin to drop, people will begin to see the real agenda that belies Brexit, that Britain will reclaim the values and principles that have always made us the envy of the world – tolerance, fairness, the rule of law, democracy, advocacy, sense of humour, our honesty and integrity.

- US-Journalisten attackierten Trump dafür heftig
Auch am Heiligabend war der Twitter-Account des US-Präsidenten nicht still. Donald Trump retweete ein bearbeitetes Foto von sich. Es trägt den Titel “Gewinnen” und sieht zunächst unscheinbar aus.
Doch ein kleines Detail darauf sorgt für wütende Reaktionen auf Twitter.
Wer das Bild genauer ansieht, bemerkt einen roten Fleck auf der Unterseite von Trumps Schuh. Es handelt sich offenbar um einen Blutfleck – und das Logo des von Trump gehassten US-Senders CNN.
Trump wettert gegen Fake-News
Journalisten und Kommentatoren reagierten prompt auf Twitter auf die erneute Attacke des US-Präsidenten gegen den Sender – denn es ist nicht das erste Mal, dass Trump martialisch gegen CNN hetzt.
Nachdem Trump zunächst in einem Tweet über den zweithöchsten Beamten des FBI, Andrew McCabe, wetterte, retweete er später das bearbeitete Bild von sich mit dem Blutfleck auf der Sohle.
In einem weiteren Tweet attackierte er danach die Medien:
“Die Fake-Nachrichten weigern sich darüber zu berichten, wie groß und wie stark meine Basis ist. Sie zeigen Fake-Umfragen, genauso wie sie Fake-News berichten. Obwohl wir nur negative Berichterstattung bekommen, geht es uns gut – niemand wird uns schlagen”, schrieb Trump und endete mit seinem Wahlkampfspruch: “Machen wir Amerika wieder großartig.”

Attacken gegen die Medien und ihre vermeintlich wahrheitsferne Berichterstattung sind nichts Neues für Trump. Sein Retweet des bearbeiteten Bildes aber ist nicht nur Medienkritik – sondern lässt sich als ein Aufruf zur Gewalt lesen.
Der TV-Journalist Joe Concha twitterte: “Der Präsident muss das löschen. Kritik ist gut, wenn sie berechtigt ist, aber das geht zu weit mit dem Blut auf der Sohle. Es gibt eine Grenze und das ist eine Überschreitung.”

Der frühere Leiter der US-Ethikbehörde, Walter Shaub, nannte Trump in einem Tweet einen “Möchtegern-Autokrat”. Solche Tweets würden den Präsidenten und das Land schwach aussehen lassen.

Absurd wurde die Diskussion, als CNN-Journalist Jake Tapper mit einem früheren Trump-Berater diskutieren musste, ob wirklich ein CNN-Logo auf dem Schuh zu sehen war.
Jason Osborne, Berater von Trump während des Wahlkampfes, kritisierte den Journalisten:
“Ernsthaft, Jake Tapper? 1) Es sieht aus wie ein Käfer, da es eindeutig Augen hat und 2) Ist es nicht möglich, dass ihm die Unterseite des Schuhs gar nicht aufgefallen ist und er stattdessen einfach ein Bild von sich selbst gesehen hat, das ihm gefiel. Du musst nicht alles auf deinen Sender beziehen.”
