Fifth Woman Accuses Roy Moore of Sexual Harassment: WATCH
Beverly Young Nelson

Beverly Young Nelson, the fifth woman to come forward with sexual assault allegations against Roy Moore, spoke to reporters flanked by her lawyer Gloria Allred at a New York press conference.

Nelson said that she met Moore while working at a restaurant when she was 16 where Moore was a regular. One night when she needed a ride home because her boyfriend was late, Moore offered her one. He drove her to the back of the restaurant, where she asked him what he was doing.

Wrote Nelson in a statement offered to reporters:

Instead of answering my question, Mr. Moore reached over and began groping me, putting his hands on my breasts. I tried to open my car door to leave, but he reached over and locked it so I could not get out. I tried fighting him off, while yelling at him to stop, but instead of stopping he began squeezing my neck attempting to force my head onto his crotch. I continued to struggle. I was determined that I was not allow him to force me to have sex with him. I was terrified. He was also trying to pull my shirt off. I thought that he was going to rape me. I was twisting and struggling and begging him to stop. I had tears running down my face.

At some point he gave up. He then looked at me and said, “you are a child. I am the District attorney of Etiwah County. If you tell anyone about this, no one will believe you.” He finally allowed me to open the car door and I either fell out or he pushed me out. I was on the ground as he pulled out of the parking area behind the restaurant. The passenger door was still open as he burned rubber pulling away leaving me lying there on the cold concrete in the dark.

Nelson said she quit her job immediately thereafter and had held on to the secret, believing she would take it to her death but decided to come forward since others were speaking out.

She also said she voted fro Trump and her decision to come out against Moore was not politically motivated.

Exclusive: St Paul’s Girls’ School Reveals Former Pupils Have Alleged ‘Sexual Abuse’

Exclusive: St Paul’s Girls’ School Reveals Former Pupils Have Alleged ‘Sexual Abuse’

Britain’s leading girls’ school has revealed that some of its former pupils have alleged they suffered “sexual abuse” while in its care.

St Paul’s Girls’ School in West London has written to its alumni to alert them to the claims, which were prompted by the #metoo campaign to report current and historic cases of assault and harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Two former St Paul’s pupils, known as ‘Paulinas’, have passed on information about their personal experience over a period stretching from the 1970s to 1990s, while others have related allegations set out by friends.

The school says that ‘relevant authorities’ have been informed of the allegations and High Mistress Sarah Fletcher has urged the former pupils to identify to the police the individuals responsible for the abuse.

In her letter, seen by HuffPost UK, Fletcher adds that she has now asked St Paul’s own Local Authority Designated Officer to carry out “an independent safeguarding inspection” to ensure that current pupils are as safe as possible.

The £24,000-a-year fee-paying school, in Hammersmith, West London, regularly tops the national league tables for exam results.

An extract from the letter sent to former pupils.

Its alumni include high achieving women in business, science, the arts and politics.

‘Old Paulinas’ include Tory MP Vicky Ford, journalists Sophie Raworth and Susanna Reid, TV presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell and actresses Rachel Weisz, Emily Mortimer and Joely Richardson.  Boris Johnson’s sister Rachel also attended the school. There is no suggestion any of them have alleged abuse.

According to its website, the school’s “first full-time appointments of men to the academic staff” were made in 1967.

The revelations of abuse follow a project set up by the school’s drama department which invited former pupils to send in their own experiences of harassment.

High Mistress Sarah Fletcher.

Fletcher said that the St Pauls’ email, “in conjunction with #metoo and the stories about abuse currently in the press, prompted a small number of OPs [Old Paulinas] to get in touch with the school”.

“They have told us of past sexual abuse at St Paul’s. Two wrote from personal experience, others about what they had heard from friends. The allegations relate to a period spanning from the 1970s to 1990s.

“We immediately passed the information onto the relevant authorities, and we remain in close contact with them. I have written to everyone concerned thanking them for coming forward and expressing our absolute condemnation of all such behaviour.

“I have let staff and parents know, and will be talking to our students. The police can only do their job, however, if they have a name. I have, therefore, asked these OPs to consider whether they would feel able to identify the individual(s), so that they can be held to account. I realise this is a big and difficult step to take, and we shall do all we can to support anyone who decides to go to the police”.

Another extract from the letter.

Fletcher added:” We can never say “it could never happen here”. We can, however, try our hardest to make sure that we are robust in setting the highest standards in safeguarding that we can.”

St Paul’s Girls is the sister school to St Paul’s School, which is already under investigation after allegations of child abuse stretching back nearly 60 years.

St Paul’s, which lists George Osborne and John Simpson among its own alumni, is the subject of a “serious case review” by Richmond Safeguarding Children Board.

Earlier this year former rowing coach Patrick Marshall became the fifth member of staff to be convicted for abuse since 2013 when he was jailed for 18 years for sexually abusing pupils.

New FBI Data Shows Increased Reported Incidents of Anti-LGBTQ Hate Crimes in 2016

New FBI Data Shows Increased Reported Incidents of Anti-LGBTQ Hate Crimes in 2016

Today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released hate crime statistics for 2016. This information, released at the start of Transgender Awareness Week, highlights the ongoing epidemic of anti-transgender violence.

In 2016, 6,121 hate crime incidents were reported –an increase of five percent from 2015. Of the 6,121 incidents reported,1,076 were based on sexual orientation bias and 124 were based on gender identity bias. These numbers reflect a two percent and nine percent increase, respectively.

Of the 124 incidents based on gender identity, 19 targeted gender non-conforming people, a decrease of 54 percent from 2015. Yet, of those same 124 incidents,105 targeted transgender people, an increase of 44 percent from 2015.

However, these numbers likely represent only a fraction of such cases, given that reporting hate crimes to the FBI is not mandatory. Thousands of law enforcement agencies throughout the country did not submit any data. And while the number of jurisdictions reporting hate crimes data increased to 15,251 in 2016 from 14,997 in 2015, this is still less than the 15,494 agencies that reported in 2014. The lack of mandatory reporting means that the FBI data, while helpful, paints a very incomplete picture of hate crimes against LGBTQ Americans.

Jurisdictions with populations of more than 250,000 were among the thousands of. law enforcement agencies across the country that did not submit hate crimes data, and the vast majority of those — 88 percent — simply indicated to the FBI that no hate crimes had occurred. More than 90 cities with more than 100,000 residents either affirmatively reported zero hate crimes or ignored the FBI request for their 2016 hate crime data.

Over the past year, HRC has been calling on the Trump administration to do more to respond to hate crimes. In March, HRC joined 155 other civil and human rights organizations in urging the Trump administration to more strongly respond to bias-motivated acts of violence and intimidation. The letter cited examples of hate incidents, including the murder of seven transgender women of color, the February shooting targeting two Indian Hindu Americans in Kansas, and the numerous bomb threats against Jewish organizations and houses of worship, among others.

In addition, in September, HRC joined more than 80 organizations on a letter to Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore at the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division outlining steps that the DOJ should take in the wake of white supremacist violence in Charlottesville and in response to other bias-motivated crimes across the country. The letter also highlights the coalition’s broader priorities to help inform the DOJ’s plan of action to prevent and respond to hate violence.

Since the passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HCPA) in 2009, HRC has worked with the FBI to update the agency’s crime reporting, from providing training materials to sharing details on hate crimes when they occur. HRC continues to press for improved reporting, passage of state laws that protect LGBTQ individuals from hate crimes, and expanded education and training initiatives.

The Anti-Defamation League has mapped the hate crime incidents that were reported in cities with populations of more than 100,000 and includes information on reported hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity biases. You can view this map here.

GEORGE H.W. BUSH. Another woman accuses former president of groping her: “My initial reaction was absolute horror. I was really, really confused,” Corrigan told TIME, speaking publicly for the first time about the encounter. “The first thing I did was look at my mom and, while he was still standing there, I didn’t say anything. What does a teenager say to the ex-president of the United States? Like, ‘Hey dude, you shouldn’t have touched me like that?’”

THE DUGGARS. TLC fired one of the Duggar sperm donors for transphobic tweeting.

MITCH MCCONNELL. Roy Moore should “step aside.”

BRITAIN. Thanks to new data, queer communities are visible all around England. ‘Specialist dating apps have made it much easier to meet partners nearby. Thanks to a gradual decline in bigoted attitudes, older gay people are more willing to move to the countryside, where there is also a fair smattering of gay-run hotels and B&Bs (which we excluded from our visibility measurements, since they are mostly not presented as “gay” establishments or intended primarily for gay clients). After London, the next most publicly gay region in our data was rustic Devon, home to five annual Pride events and, as of September, a queer arts festival at Dartington Hall. Ceri Goddard, who helped organise the event, says it “reminded locals that amongst them there are thousands of gay and lesbian people”. As Britain becomes more comfortable with people displaying their sexuality openly, expect to see more of these events in the sticks.’

POLAND. 60,000 white nationalists march, use Trump-inspired slogan: ‘Participants marched under the slogan “We Want God,” words from an old Polish religious song that President Donald Trump quoted from during a visit to Warsaw earlier this year. Speakers spoke of standing against liberals and defending Christian values. Many carried the national white-and-red flag as others set off flares and firecrackers, filling the air with red smoke. Some also carried banners depicting a falanga, a far-right symbol dating to the 1930s.’

PINK CADILLAC. Emmy Rossum to play L.A. legend Angelyne.

ROY MOORE. New accuser to come forward.

VANITY FAIR. Radhika Jones to be new editor.

ALZHEIMER’S. Bill Gates pledges $100 million to fight the disease. Statement: “The human cost of Alzheimer’s is much more difficult to put into numbers. It’s a terrible disease that devastates both those who have it and their loved ones. This is something I know a lot about, because men in my family have suffered from Alzheimer’s. I know how awful it is to watch people you love struggle as the disease robs them of their mental capacity, and there is nothing you can do about it. It feels a lot like you’re experiencing a gradual death of the person that you knew.”

FBI. Hate crimes on the rise in the U.S. “According to the data, most of the reports were “single-bias incidents.” Of those, about 58 percent were motivated by race, ethnicity or ancestry bias, while 21 percent were motivated by religious bias and about 18 percent were motivated by sexual orientation bias.”

LAS VEGAS MASSACRE. A visual and audio timeline of the tragedy.

ANWAR AL-AWLAKI. YouTube blocks extremist cleric in “watershed” moment: ‘A search for “Anwar al-Awlaki” on YouTube this fall found more than 70,000 videos, including his life’s work, from his early years as a mainstream American imam to his later years with Al Qaeda in Yemen. Today the same search turns up just 18,600 videos, and the vast majority are news reports about his life and death, debates over the legality of his killing, refutations of his work by scholars or other material about him.’

IRAQ/IRAN. 7.3 earthquake hits Kurdistan region. “Iran’s western Kermanshah province bore the brunt of the temblor Sunday night, with authorities saying the quake killed 348 people in the country and injured 6,603. Kermanshah is a rural, mountainous region where residents rely mainly on farming. In Iraq, the earthquake killed at least seven people and injured 535, all in the country’s northern Kurdish region, according to Iraq’s Interior Ministry.”

REUNION. Spice Girls (all 5) to reunite for TV special and compilation album: “The five of them have been locked in secret talks since the summer, and finally they are all on-board for a 2018 reunion. As it stands, they will be working together on a series of projects, which will include an album and a TV special celebrating the Spice Girls. And getting Victoria to agree has been a coup for everyone involved, given she has always been the person holding back on a reunion.”

Bob Geldof: Lord Mayor Of Dublin Blasts Singer’s Hypocrisy Over Aung San Suu Kyi Protest

Bob Geldof: Lord Mayor Of Dublin Blasts Singer’s Hypocrisy Over Aung San Suu Kyi Protest
The Lord Mayor of Dublin has blasted Bob Geldof after returning his Freedom of the City award in protest against Aung San Suu Kyi holding the same honour, claiming the gesture was ironic as the singer held a British knighthood despite “the shameful record of British imperialism across the globe”.

Micheal Mac Donncha, a councillor for the Irish nationalist Sinn Fein party, was responding after the musician and activist called the Myanmar leader “a hand maiden to genocide”.

Geldof returned his Freedom of the City of Dublin award in protest over his fellow recipient’s response to the repression of Rohingya Muslims. More than half a million have fled to Bangladesh following recent violence.

In the statement, Mac Donncha “condemned the persecution of the Rohingya people and their expulsion from their homes by the military in Myanmar and the failure Aung San Suu Kyi to acknowledge, let alone condemn, what the UN has described as ethnic cleansing”.

Mac Donncha said the city council had discussed taking away the honour and the matter was still under review. But he went on to note it was “ironic that (Geldof) makes this gesture while proudly retaining his title as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, given the shameful record of British imperialism across the globe”.

Geldof was knighted by the Queen in 1986.

He also criticised Geldof for “grossly insulting” those who participated in the 1916 rising against Britain by comparing them to Islamic State (IS) last year, “causing offence to Dubliners and Irish people generally”.

Geldof on Monday said Suu Kyi’s association with the Irish capital “shames us all”.

In a statement, the Live Aid founder said he would hand the award back at City Hall on Monday morning, because while he was a “proud Dubliner” he did not want the ceremonial title while Suu Kyi also held it.

He said: “Her association with our city shames us all and we should have no truck with it, even by default. We honoured her, now she appalls and shames us.

“In short, I do not wish to be associated in any way with an individual currently engaged in the mass ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya people of north-west Burma.

“I am a founding patron of The Aegis Trust, who are concerned with genocide prevention and studies. Its founders built and maintain the National Holocaust Museum of the UK.

“I spoke at the inaugural National Holocaust Memorial Day at Westminster and in my time, I have walked amongst peoples who were sectionally targeted with ethnic cleansing.

“I would be a hypocrite now were I to share honours with one who has become at best an accomplice to murder, complicit in ethnic cleansing and a handmaiden to genocide.”
