Colton Haynes Got a Crazy Head Start on Halloween as Marge Simpson

Colton Haynes has never been shy about taking on big iconic female characters for Halloween and this year is no different. He and fiance Jeff Leatham attended Freixenet Cava’s 2nd Annual Black Magic Halloween Affair at La Descarga in Hollywood on Tuesday.

Leatham wore a Top Gun uniform and Haynes took on (and eventually took off) Marge Simpson.

Haynes told Us Weekly that it took five hours to get into costume: “[There’s] a lot of tape in areas you don’t want tape. My balls hurt. It was so fun. I can’t see. It’s worth it! I actually had to mess up the costume. It looked way better, but I couldn’t see [with the fake eyes] so I cut them out myself.”

Cancer Patients Less Likely To Have Chemo If Diagnosed Early, Research Reveals

Cancer Patients Less Likely To Have Chemo If Diagnosed Early, Research Reveals
A patient’s cancer treatment plan has been linked to the stage of diagnosis for the first time in new findings.

Researchers from Cancer Research UK and Public Health England have revealed whether NHS patients received surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, alone or in combination, linked with their cancer stage.

Patients are five times more likely to have surgery to remove their tumour, and far less likely to have chemotherapy, if they are diagnosed sooner rather than later.

Many people think of chemotherapy and radiotherapy when they think of cancer treatment, as this is the most appropriate form of treatment for some cancers.

But for most forms of the disease surgery to remove the tumour is the most effective way to cure the cancer. This option also minimises side effects and impact on quality of life.

The data examined was extensive, including about half a million patients with 22 different cancer types in England between 2013-2014.

Findings reveal seven in 10 (70%) diagnosed at the earliest stage (stage 1) had surgery to remove their tumour. This falls to around one in 10 (13%) of those diagnosed at the latest stage (stage 4).

Around 1 in 10 (12%) patients diagnosed at the earliest stage have chemotherapy. This rises to around 4 in 10 (39%) of those diagnosed at the latest stage.

Prof Mick Peake, a lead clinician in the study and based at Public Health England, said: “Doctors want to offer patients the best possible treatment. For some cancers, like leukaemia and lymphoma, that’s chemotherapy. But in most cases the earlier cancer is diagnosed the more likely it is to be effectively treated by surgery, and that means chemotherapy isn’t always necessary.

“In general, the treatment of cancers at an early stage also reduces the risk of long term side effects which can affect patients’ quality of life.”

Sara Hiom, Cancer Research UK’s director of early diagnosis, said: “Understandably, people sometimes fear cancer treatments as well as the disease itself. This research shows how important an early diagnosis is for simplifying the treatment options as much as possible. Until now, we’ve not been able to look at such rich data for the whole of England and analyse who’s been treated how. Now, thanks to recent improvements, it’s possible to show how stage affects the treatments patients need, giving us a more complete picture.

“We all have our part to play to increase the number of patients diagnosed earlier. People should consult their GP if they are worried about symptoms, GPs should follow clinical guidelines to refer patients, and the right diagnostic tests need to be performed and reported promptly so that patients can benefit more from treatments. This all needs greater attention and our national cancer strategy helps give this focus.”

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Promises Full DVD of Chris Hemsworth Shirtless

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Promises Full DVD of Chris Hemsworth Shirtless

Chris Hemsworth shirtless

It’s a big promise, but now it’s out there.

Chris Hemsworth and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi gave an interview to Yahoo Entertainment’s Kevin Polowy in which they were asked if the hulking Australian actor had it in his contract to remove the shirt.

RELATED: Shirtless Chris Hemsworth Returns to Out-Hulk Everyone and Deliver Comic Quips in the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Trailer: WATCH

Said Hemsworth: “In the very first Thor, I’d be training for months and months and months and Kenneth Branagh said ‘aww, what do you think about a shirt off scene?’ I said ‘mate I’ve been killing myself in the gym for eight months! I’m ready. Let’s go.’”

But Hemsworth said he was relieved there was no shirtless scene in the Thor: Ragnarok script, until he spoke with Waititi.

“I said Chris you have to take your shirt off,” explained Waititi. “Do you want bums on seats?”

Joked Waititi: “I would say that on the DVD you can expect an extra DVD of just that. An entire disk. Four hours of him – slow motion, black and white, black and chrome, full color…”

We can hope.

Incidentally, most reviews that have come out about the film note how funny it is.

Writes Gizmodo:

There’s only one problem with the film being so funny and such a spectacle, though: The laughter and grandeur overshadows almost everything else. Ragnarok is missing the emotional core that has elevated many other Marvel films. The jokes and set pieces come at you so often that there’s barely a moment for you to feel anything else. Luckily—and unlike so many other films that try the same thing—Thor: Ragnarok is so good it manages to work anyway.

The Apprentice’s Latest Fired Candidate Reveals The One Piece Of Information That Could Have Saved Them

The Apprentice’s Latest Fired Candidate Reveals The One Piece Of Information That Could Have Saved Them
As always, it’s a case of another week, another evictee on ‘The Apprentice’ and on Wednesday (25 October) night, it was finally time for the ladies’ team to lose a candidate.

After failing to make as much money as Michaela, Sarah and the boys’, project manager Siobhán Smith failed to defend herself adequately in the boardroom.

While Lord Alan Sugar made a pretty good case as he fired her, Siobhán has now revealed that there’s one pretty important thing that wasn’t made clear as the football-themed task took place.

Speaking to HuffPost UK, she explained: “I didn’t know that you can’t take drinks into the stadium, that’s something nobody told me as I was buying the booze and ordering everything.

“So that would have been a big point to be honest with you.

“Yeah, I ordered a lot of wine but the events I do are on a buy back, whatever you don’t have, you can give back and get a refund on it.”

The issue is something Siobhán also spoke about while filming ‘You’re Fired!’, the day before her final ‘The Apprentice’ episode aired.

Revealing what the show’s hosts said about the matter, she added: “It all became quite prevalent. The presenters said, ‘I think you took this as too much of a real-life situation, you weren’t playing the game and the boys were’.”

‘The Apprentice’ continues next Wednesday, with the candidates being sent on a special birthday treasure hunt for items relevant to Lord Sugar’s life. No, we can’t wait to see what they have to hunt down and purchase either.

GLAAD condemns the PA Senate for targeting access to transgender healthcare in CHIP reauthorization bill

GLAAD condemns the PA Senate for targeting access to transgender healthcare in CHIP reauthorization bill

Amendment added to House Bill 1388 specifically targets low-income trans youth

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization today condemned the Pennsylvania Senate for passing the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) reauthorization legislation with an amendment aimed at denying lower-income Pennsylvania transgender youth under the age of 19 full access to transition-related healthcare.

“Instead of addressing the alarming rates of discrimination and harassment faced by transgender youth, Pennsylvania lawmakers are assuming the role of bullies by promoting fear-mongering myths about trans healthcare from the floor of the Senate,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “Science and medicine have repeatedly deemed transition related care to be medically necessary, and blocking low-income transgender youth from full access to this vital care is cruel and unconscionable.”

The violently anti-trans sentiment at the core of this harmful amendment was clear in the original draft, which would have slashed all access to transition related care, including counseling. As passed, the amendment was changed to only deny access to surgery. While surgical care is not often prescribed for youth, there are circumstances where this form of healthcare is deemed medically necessary for trans individuals under the age of 19, which is why “surgical services” are currently listed as a benefit in the PA CHIP Eligibly and Benefits Handbook by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

Transgender and gender-nonconforming Pennsylvanians in grades K-12 have reported disturbingly high rates of harassment (74%), physical assault (23%) and sexual violence (9%). Amendments such as this one, pushed by Republican state Sen. Donald White, only further feeds the stigma and fear that promotes bullying, harassment and violence that transgender people experience. Lack of access to treatment for gender dysphonia can also lead to depression, anxiety, and suicidality.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Current language of the Pennsylvania CHIP Eligibility and Benefits Handbook:

“Gender Transition:  Federal Final Rule “Nondiscrimination in Health Programs and Activities” prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in health-related insurance and other health-related coverage.  Coverage related to gender affirming services that otherwise fall within the beneficiary’s scope of covered CHIP benefits (e.g. physician’s services, inpatient and outpatient hospital services, surgical services, prescribed drugs, therapies, etc.) will be compensable under the CHIP program when deemed medically necessary.  Medical necessity is to be determined utilizing the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (www.WPATH.org) Standard of Care guidelines and any successor WPATH guidelines. Sex specific health care cannot be denied or limited because the person seeking services identifies as belonging to another gender. For example; a provider may not deny an individual gynecological services such as pap smears based on identification as a transgender male.”

RIP. Fats Domino dead. ‘Antoine “Fats” Domino, the jovial New Orleans entertainer whose bluesy singing and boogie-woogie piano style helped launch rock-and-roll in the 1950s with such rollicking songs as “Blueberry Hill,” “Ain’t That a Shame” and “I’m Walkin’,” died Oct. 24. He was 89.’

FULL DIVA. Mariah Carey ordered the press to shoot her good angle at Karl Lagerfeld bash.

MARK HERRING. Former Virginia Attorney General stands by decision to refuse to defend state’s  ban on gay marriage: “As Herring seeks re-election, that decision has become a constant source of criticism from Herring’s Republican challenger, John Adams, an opponent of same-sex marriage. But Herring says he isn’t fazed, noting that his position was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, which struck down such bans as unconstitutional and effectively legalized gay marriage across the country.”

ARKANSAS. Judge orders state to fix birth certificate issue: “A judge ordered Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and the head of the state Department of Health on Monday to try to figure out how Arkansas’ birth-certificate law can be modified to meet constitutional standards, absent a legislative rewrite.Arkansas law automatically lists married parents on their children’s birth certificates but only the mother for same-sex couples, a practice the U.S. Supreme Court has determined illegally favors married heterosexual parents.”

FLASHBACK. RuPaul on The Weakest Link.

THE EAGLE. How it became one of the most recognized gay bar names: ‘Amid the homophobia that was not uncommon in the ‘70s, gay men found a respite and place of comfort at The Eagle’s Nest — it was a safe space before the term “safe space” was in the vernacular. And when patrons of The Eagle’s Nest left New York, they took that sense of community with them, and The Eagle’s Nest served as inspiration for other Eagle-named bars that popped up in cities like San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and even as far as London and cities in Canada.’

FFAA. Masen Davis named new CEO of Freedom for All Americans: “I’m thrilled to join the team at Freedom for All Americans, and to work with all of our partners in the states and across this incredible movement,” said Masen Davis, incoming Freedom for All Americans CEO. “In recent years, the LGBTQ movement has won victories that many people thought would never be possible in their lifetime – from the end of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ to the advent of marriage equality to the transformative national visibility for transgender people. But there’s a lot of work still to do and there’s so much on the line for LGBTQ people in America today. We have no time to waste in pushing forward in the states, in the courts, and in the halls of Congress with the hard work necessary to ensure every person can live free from discrimination, no matter who you are or who you love.”

NYC. New system to replace the Metrocard.

SOUTH AFRICA. Man recreates balloon scene from Up as he flies for two hours near Johannesburg.

SHEMAR MOORE. Soap star reveals his abs: “I do about 500 sit ups a day, 5 days a week. I’m 47-years-old but the character that I play on S.W.A.T. is 35-years-old so I ain’t going to lie, I gotta paint some greys, I gotta hold my breath a lot more than I used to hold my breath. I wanna see if I can get to sixty with somewhat of 4 pack whatever and then finally once S.W.A.T is a huge hit and you guys get tired of S.W.A.T., I’m finally gonna exhale and let my mini keg live.”

MISSOURI. Court extends protections to LGBT workers: “A Missouri Court of Appeals Western District three-judge panel ruled that while employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity is not explicitly prohibited by Missouri law, discrimination based on sex-stereotypes — which may be stereotypes held against LGBTQ individuals — is prohibited as sex discrimination. The decision follows recent federal court opinions that broaden the interpretation of sex discrimination laws to include cases involving both gender identity and sexual orientation.”

CELEBRATE WITH US. The Babadook and Pennywise are engaged.
