A New George Michael Single Has Been Released, and It’s a Nile Rodgers-Produced ‘Fantasy’ — LISTEN

A New George Michael Single Has Been Released, and It’s a Nile Rodgers-Produced ‘Fantasy’ — LISTEN

“Fantasy”, a track that was intended for George Michael’s album Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1 but later appeared as the B-side of the single “Waiting for That Day”, has been remixed by Nile Rodgers as a single from the forthcoming release Listen Without Prejudice Vol.1/MTV Unplugged.

Writes The Guardian:

A classic Rodgers choppy guitar line sits under a freshly minted pop-house rhythm, as Michael’s voice is pleasantly – and quite radically – mangled, before segueing into the original’s top line. Its status as a B-side rather undersells it – Michael’s secret weapon is a half-sung style of rapping that gets a good airing here, and the “if you ain’t got time for me, I’ll find another fantasy” pay-off is suitably fabulous. The sigh that closes the chorus remains a glorious bit of petulance.

Perhaps there isn’t a Prince-style vault waiting to be raided, and there needn’t be, given the strength of his existing work. Fantasy meanwhile is a reminder that George Michael could invest a dancefloor with sex and wit like few other pop stars.

Rodgers tweeted about the new track:

This process was extremely emotional for me. We were such massive fans of each other’s work. #Christmas2016 was very sad. t.co/u2pNW7tEzM

SENATORS GILLIBRAND AND COLLINS TO CHALLENGE TRUMP’S TRANS MILITARY BAN: Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are preparing an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that will challenge the White House’s unconscionable directive that interferes in Department of Defense personnel policy by pushing forward the Trump-Pence transgender military ban. The administration’s directive bans qualified transgender people from enlisting or commissioning into the military, and prohibits some medically-necessary transition-related health care. The fate of transgender troops currently serving our nation remains unresolved. More from The Washington Post.

SEC OF STATE TILLERSON REPORTEDLY ‘EXPRESSED CONCERN’ TO RUSSIA OVER LGBTQ HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN CHECHNYA: Michael K. Lavers (@MKLavers81) of The Washington Blade reports that Tillerson wrote to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and “conveyed U.S. concerns about the credible reports of widespread detentions, torture and other abuses against gay men in Chechnya.” While it is important that Tillerson appears to have finally addressed the reports months after they first surfaced, the Trump Administration needs to take real action to help stop the atrocities — through leadership at the United Nations and welcoming people fleeing the violence. More from Washington Blade.

This only after months of pressure from @HRC & others. And yet Trump, Tillerson still publicly silent on Chechnya. t.co/NHmdOEL0JZ

AUSTRALIAN HIGH COURT RULES — MARRIAGE EQUALITY SURVEY WILL PROCEED: The court unanimously ruled that the government can go ahead with conducting a public mail-in survey on marriage equality. LGBTQ advocates had argued that the government “does not have the power to bypass Parliament to pay for a 122 million Australian dollar ($97 million) public survey,” and believed that Parliament should vote on marriage equality without the survey. Following the decision, Australian advocates launched a “Yes” campaign that will include millions of “respectful conversations” on the subject of marriage equality. The survey will be sent out September 12, and results are to be announced November 15. The results will be non-binding and will require legislative action before marriage equality can be achieved. More from The Guardian.

HRC REACTS TO TRUMP’S CATASTROPHIC DECISION TO END DACA: Gerardo Sánchez of Asi Es Mi Gente TV spoke with Milagros Chirinos, HRC Bilingual Media Manager-Spanish about Trump’s cruel decision to end DACA. “We are heartbroken,” said Chirinos. “This action shatters the dreams of 800,000 Dreamers, including 75,000 LGBTQ young immigrants, but also the dreams of families, relatives and friends. All they want is to be able study, go to school and work like any other person.” More from Asi Es Mi Gente TV.

MEET EMMA, 6-YEAR-OLD TRANS ADVOCATE IN NORTH CAROLINA: When Emma entered kindergarten, she was thrust into the middle of the fight against HB2, the anti-transgender state law that has since been replaced with the similarly discriminatory HB142. The law prevented Emma, a transgender girl, from using facilities aligned with her gender identity. Now, her parents are fighting back, and have transferred Emma to a school that respects her gender identity. More from HuffPo.

Seth Meyers Has a Message for Hillary Clinton: ‘Don’t Blame Bernie’ for Your Election Loss: WATCH

Seth Meyers Has a Message for Hillary Clinton: ‘Don’t Blame Bernie’ for Your Election Loss: WATCH

seth meyers hillary clinton

Seth Meyers told Hillary Clinton to stop blaming Bernie Sanders for her election loss in his recurring segment “Hey!” on Wednesday night. Clinton writes in her new book What Happened that Sanders paved the way for Trump’s attacks on her.

“Hillary Clinton, don’t blame Bernie because Donald Trump called you names,” said Meyers. “I promise you he was gonna do that anyway. It’s not like Trump watched Bernie at the debates and thought, ‘criticizing Hillary? That just might work.’”

Meyers also pointed out that Trump didn’t need Bernie’s permission to be an a**hole:

“A**holes don’t ask for permission. That’s what makes them a**holes.”

Meyers also scolds Clinton for wasting pages on Bernie because Bernie’s not going to pay $17.99 for a book: “That’s like four and a half chicken noodle soups.”

Meyers also pointed out that Clinton won the election by 3 million votes, so there’s no point in blaming Bernie for the loss: “If you want to blame something ancient, blame the Electoral College. We shouldn’t be running the most important elections on earth on a system designed over 200 years ago to appease slave-owners.”

Meyer concluded by pointing out there are more important things to be concerned with right now:

“We are living through a very dark time in America, but there is also an unprecedented opportunity to bring Democrats and liberals together in a stand against the hate and incompetence in Washington. The best way to do this is to get the people who voted for you and the people who voted for Bernie on the same page. This isn’t the time to complain because Senator Woodstock didn’t roll over for you. If anything, he helped make you a better candidate — the candidate who beat Donald Trump by three million votes.”

Australian High Court Dismisses Challenges to Same-Sex Marriage Vote

Australia’s High Court has rejected two separate legal challenges to the government’s voluntary postal vote that could give lawmakers the go-ahead to legalize same-sex marriage. The court did not issue any written opinions Thursday explaining why it decided to reject the challenges after two days of hearings. Gay rights advocates went to the Melbourne-based court seeking…
