Trump Had Anti-Hate Statement Ready on Saturday, Chose to Wait Two Days

Trump charlottesville

Donald Trump had an anti-hate statement similar to the one he read from a teleprompter on Monday ready to go on Saturday, but made a conscious decision not to read it, Politico reports:

Trump had a written statement on Saturday that was similar in tone and substance to the one he delivered on Monday, according to a senior White House adviser. But the president veered from those prepared remarks.

Political analysts said Trump’s drawn-out response was part of a double game — an effort to avoid alienating part of his base followed quickly by a pivot to tamp down the outrage.

“He feels he can keep his base happy by being mute for 48 hours, and then he can come in and mute the so-called mainstream media world,” said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley.

The White House’s response appears to have done just that. The president’s short speech on Monday earned bipartisan praise while leaving some of Saturday’s marchers still feeling a part of the Trump movement.

Scaramucci gay rights

TMZ caught up with Anthony Scaramucci and grilled him about Trump’s response to the white supremacist violence. They also asked about his support for gay rights.

Said Scaramucci:

“I have been an active – for the last decade – gay rights, gay marriage equality supporter. Particularly here in New York  and New York City but around the world. And I think that ‘life, liberty , and the pursuit of happiness’ when they wrote that, I don’t think it was just meant for straight people, and so for me, I’m a very active gay rights supporter. In addition to that – even though I’m a Roman Catholic and I believe in a right to life I would never impose those values on other people. So for me I’m actually very socially inclusive as a human being, and I’m a Republican because I believe that you need free market principles to create class mobility.”

Joe Arpaio, convicted criminal known for inmate abuses, unjustified arrests, and racial profiling

Joe Arpaio, convicted criminal known for inmate abuses, unjustified arrests, and racial profiling

Reports surface President Trump considering to pardon Arpaio within hours of reading a pre-written statement condemning racism

About 267,000 undocumented immigrants identify as LGBTQ

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today released the following background information on Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio after Fox News reported that President Trump is considering to pardon him from his criminal contempt conviction. Arpaio, who served as sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona for 24 years, was found guilty of issuing racist, anti-immigrant policies after a judge ordered Arpaio to stop targeting immigrants for traffic stops and detaining undocumented immigrants without a legal basis. Joe Arpaio also gained national attention for his inhumane Tent City jail, which he boasted was a “concentration camp.”

Reports of a possible pardon were published within an hour of President Trump condemning the horrific violence committed by white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.

According to the Williams Institute, an estimated 267,000 adult undocumented immigrants identify as LGBTQ (Latinx, Black, Asian, and Muslim). Joe Arpaio’s anti-immigrant ideology has created an environment in Arizona that increased the profiling, deportation, and detention of immigrants, which included LGBTQ immigrants. Transgender immigrants are often disproportionately detained in immigration centers and suffer a higher rate of abuse.

Arpaio currently faces up to six months in prison at his sentencing, which is scheduled for October 5.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Racist and Anti-Immigration Record

  • Bragged that he had built a concentration camp. “I already have a concentration camp…It’s called tent city.”
  • Found guilty of criminal contempt of court for his willful defiance of “orders to stop detaining undocumented immigrants without legal basis.”
  • Engaged in racial profiling in order to detain undocumented immigrants.
  • Insisted President Obama’s birth certificate is forged and says he will not give up trying to prove it.
  • Investigations show Arpaio and his deputies “failed to investigate of conducted only the sketchiest of inquiries into hundreds of sex crimes between 2005 and 2007, investigations by Arizona law enforcement agencies have shown. Many of those cases involved molested children.”
  • Branded by The New York Times Editorial Board as “America’s Worst Sheriff.”

Days After Deadly Car-Ramming in Charlottesville, Trump Tweets and Deletes Image of Train Ramming CNN

Donald Trump on Tuesday retweeted and then deleted an image of a ‘Trump’ train ramming CNN. The retweet comes just days after protester Heather Heyer died in a deadly car-ramming in Charlottesville.

The image seemed intended to pile on Trump’s attack on CNN’s Jim Acosta Monday night in which he once again called the network “fake news” but the image of a moving vehicle running down a person takes on added meaning after the weekend’s death in Charlottesville.

The cartoon was reminiscent of the video Trump retweeted last month which showed him beating up a man with a CNN logo on his face.
