Former Director of National Intelligence Clapper Worries About Trump’s Access to Nuclear Codes: WATCH

James Clapper

Following Trump’s divisive rally in Arizona, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper questioned his fitness to serve as president and said he was worried about his access to the nuclear codes.

Said Clapper to Don Lemon:

“It’s hard to know where to start. It’s just so objectionable on so many levels. You know, I toiled in one capacity or another for every president since and including John F. Kennedy through President Obama and I don’t know when I’ve listened and watched something like this from a president that I found more disturbing…Having some understanding of the levers of power that are available to a president if he chooses to exercise them, I found this downright scary and disturbing…I really question…his fitness to be in this office. I also am beginning to wonder about his motivation for it, maybe he is looking for a way out.”

Asked to speak plainly, Clapper added:

“This behavior and this divisiveness, and the complete intellectual, moral and ethical void that the president of the United States exhibits. How much longer does the country have to endure this nightmare?”

Clapper said he worried about Trump’s access to nuclear codes:

“Again, having some understanding of the levers that a president can exercise, I worry about, frankly, you know, the access to nuclear codes. The whole system’s built to ensure a rapid response if necessary. So there’s very little in the way of controls over, you know, exercising a nuclear option, which is pretty damn scary.”

Arizona Trump

On Monday night, after President Donald J. Trump delivered a speech on Afghanistan, Philip Rucker, the Washington Post’s bureau chief for the White House, wrote on Twitter that he saw in that address “a new President Trump: Acknowledging a flip-flop and talking about gravity of office, history & substance.” Here was the long-awaited pivot to presidential…

Shinjuku 2-chome (新宿2丁目) is Tokyo’s gay neighborhood, and the Gold Finger is an aptly named lesbian bar located on a minor alley in the midst of it all.

On Saturday nights this place is strictly women only. On Monday nights it becomes a hangout for transgender men (born female, identifying as male). On other nights it welcomes all friendly gays and straights, and on Friday nights (and this is a Friday), it is a karaoke night. I made sure to sing my heart out!

Some banners of love and pride along the upper wall of the establishment. The leftmost one is written by an American.

GLAAD response to President Trump’s choice to defend Joe Arpaio

GLAAD response to President Trump’s choice to defend Joe Arpaio

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today voiced outrage over President Trump’s choice to defend former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio at a political rally this evening in Phoenix, Arizona. Arpaio is infamous for his previous conviction of issuing racist, anti-immigrant policies in Maricopa County even after being ordered by a judge to stop racial targeting and detaining undocumented immigrants without a legal basis. Arpaio also gained national attention for his inhumane Tent City jail, which he boasted was a “concentration camp, and his relentless campaign to terrorize Latinx communities by using racial profiling for immigration enforcement.

“By defending Joe Arpaio, President Trump sends a chilling message of support for racial profiling, inhumane inmate abuses, and unlawful defiance for the federal court system,” said Monica Trasandes, Director of Spanish Language and Latinx Media & Representation. “Arpaio’s discriminatory actions created a hostile environment throughout Arizona and sparked additional, anti-immigration policies across the United States. It is absolutely vital for the LGBTQ community to help communities of color and immigrants fight back against this dangerous conversation being run by the Trump Administration. Embracing intolerance has no place for the Office of the Presidency and the United States.”

According to the Williams Institute, an estimated 267,000 adult undocumented immigrants identify as LGBTQ (Latinx, Black, Asian, and Muslim). Joe Arpaio’s anti-immigrant ideology has created an environment in Arizona that increased the profiling, deportation, and detention of immigrants, including LGBTQ immigrants. Transgender immigrants are often disproportionately detained in immigration centers and suffer a higher rate of abuse.
