We are! Not the fake polls. They’re the ones we’re not winning in. We’re winning in the real polls.”

It was full weekend of accelerating LGBTQ acceptance nationwide!

This past weekend, GLAAD partnered with The Equality March in Washington D.C., and the #ResistMarch during Los Angeles’ Pride weekend. Droves of GLAAD staff and supporters showed up sporting signs and flags representing the Together Movement as they marched and chanted through the sunny streets. Both gatherings and their sister events across the country were great displays of solidarity and strength within the LGBTQ community, helping to reaffirm community-wide commitment to equality and acceptance.

The Equality March for Unity and Pride took place on Sunday in the heart of Washington D.C. The march lead tens of thousands through the streets of the city and culminated in a rally on the National Mall. Speakers at the rally included actors Sara Ramirez, Charlie Carver, and Asia Kate Dillon, as well as GLAAD President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis. Ellis highlighted the White House’s continued silence regarding Pride month, saying, “If the White House refuses to recognize LGBTQ+ Pride Month, let’s show them how it’s done. Be loud.”

GLAAD staff and volunteers joined the masses, waving rainbow flags and colorful signs, featuring the ampersand symbol, “&”, which represents the power of our voices together to build a more intersectional movement.  See more photos from the Equality March below!

GLAAD also partnered with and participated in the #ResistMarch, a project of Los Angeles Pride, on Sunday. The march, which drew a crowd of more than 30,000, replaced LA’s annual Pride Parade as an opportunity to stand proudly against the forces that seek to divide and harm marginalized communities.

The #ResistMarch mission states, “Instead of a Pride Parade meant to celebrate our past progress, we are going to march to ensure all our futures. Just as we did in 1970’s first LGBTQ+ Pride, we are going to march in unity with those who believe that America’s strength is its diversity”. Entertainers and influencers including Maxine Waters, America Ferrera, Margaret Cho, and Jussie Smollett teamed with local on-the-ground advocates from across cause spaces, giving impassioned speeches and wearing “&” pins to symbolize support for the Together movement.

Serbian President Names Ana Brnabic as Country’s First Openly Gay and First Female Prime Minister

Serbian President Names Ana Brnabic as Country’s First Openly Gay and First Female Prime Minister

Ana Brnabic, who became Serbia’s first openly gay minister last August, has been appointed as the country’s Prime Minister, making history again.

The Independent reports:

President Aleksandar Vucic announced Ana Brnabic is his official nomination as Prime Minister-designate. Her government needs formal approval by Serbia’s parliament next week.

Vucic calls it “a difficult decision reached in the interest of Serbia and its citizens.” Ms Brnabic is currently government minister of public administration and local government.

Her appointment into government last year was hailed by human rights groups as historic for the country whose gay community continues to face discrimination, harassment and violence.

The 41-year-old new Prime Minister is a former “businesswoman of the year” in her country and was educated partly in the UK and in the US. She speaks both English and Russian.

Patti Lupone Trump

On the red carpet at this year’s Tony Awards, Patti LuPone told a Variety reporter that she hopes Donald Trump never makes a trip to Broadway to see her in War Paint.

“Because I won’t perform if he does,” she said.

“Tell me why,” begged the reporter.

“Because I hate the motherf***er. How’s that?”

LuPone does not mince words.

She recently told Watch What Happens Live! host Andy Cohen what she thought of Madonna’s performance in the film adaptation of Evita, a role she originated on Broadway.

“I was on the treadmill when MTV used to have videos, and I saw, I believe it was  “Buenos Aires”, and I thought it was a piece of sh-t.”

Ed Gillespie’s anti-LGBTQ activism should be a red flag for Virginians

Ed Gillespie’s anti-LGBTQ activism should be a red flag for Virginians

Gillespie’s record mirrors Trump Administration’s record of erasing LGBTQ Americans from fabric of this nation

NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today called on all media outlets following Ed Gillespie to consider reporting on his troublesome anti-LGBTQ record, which includes discriminatory statements and actions against the community.

Gillespie has been described as a “moderate” politician, however, his record tells a different story. In fact, Gillespie’s actions prove to be eerily similar to President Trump’s erasure agenda on LGBTQ Americans – including his call for North Carolina-like policies that would directly put transgender Virginians in harm’s way.

With this discriminatory and harming record following Ed Gillespie, it should come as no surprise that he could embrace the same anti-LGBTQ record that has embodied the Trump Administration since Day One of the Trump Presidency. This includes Gillespie’s own push for anti-transgender legislation and opposition to marriage equality for LGBTQ Americans – directly in line with top officials within the Trump Administration. Take a look below at how Ed Gillespie’s record could harm LGBTQ Virginians in the future.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: ED GILLESPIE ANTI-LGBTQ RECORD

Opposition to Marriage Equality

  • Opposes marriage equality: “‘I believe in my faith,’ which says marriage is between a man and a woman, he said. ‘So I don’t believe in government sanction of same-sex marriage.’”
  • While chair of the Republican Party, called on the GOP to “pursue whatever policy is necessary” to stop marriage equality: “The Republican Party platform is clear: We believe marriage is the legal union of one man and one woman. We must pursue whatever policy is necessary to protect this institution, including a Federal Marriage Amendment to the United States Constitution.”
  •  Reportedly pressed former president George W. Bush to add extra lines to a 2008 commencement speech that explicitly condemned marriage equality.
  • As senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, advocated for a federal marriage amendment.
  •  Classified judicial rulings on marriage equality as “unhealthy”: “We’ve had courts injecting themselves into this decision making process, into the political process, in a way I think is generally unhealthy for unelected judges to make decisions about whether or not government should sanction gay marriage or not.”

Support of Anti-Trans Measures/Policies

  •  Advocated for North Carolina–styled “bathroom bill.”
  • His campaign derisively said of his position on transgender bathroom access: “Ed doesn’t think girls should be compelled to share a locker room shower or hotel room on an overnight band trip with boys.” Gillespie believes that parents and local school boards should “enact common-sense policies to protect the safety and privacy of our children.”

Claimed Being LGBTQ as a “Choice”

  • Once claimed LGBTQ people are making a “choice” and that asking for acceptance is “religious bigotry”: “I accept people for who they are – and love them. That doesn’t mean I have to agree or turn my back on the tenets of my faith when it comes to homosexuality. I think when people say, ‘Well, no. That’s not enough that you accept me for who I am, you have to agree with – and condone – my choice,’ that, to me, is religious bigotry, and I believe that’s intolerant. I think they are the ones that are crossing the line here.’”

Samantha Bee Takes Jeff Sessions’ ‘Aw Shucks’ Testimony to Town: WATCH

Samantha Bee Takes Jeff Sessions’ ‘Aw Shucks’ Testimony to Town: WATCH

Jeff Sessions Samantha Bee

Samantha Bee was fired up last night over the Jeff Sessions hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this week.

“These hearings are going to outlast my will to live!”, Bee exclaimed at the end of a breathless analysis of Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III “aw shucks” failure to remember anything.

Bee saved her heaviest fire for a look at grilling from Senator Kamala Harris, who was shut down by the white male members of the panel for the second week in a row.

“The folksy prevarication elf had just drawled us all into a coma when we were suddenly jolted awake by a fast-talking lady lawyer!”, said Bee.

Harris began her questioning, which startled Sessions, who said, “I’m not able to be rushed this fast. It makes me nervous.”

Quipped Bee: “Awwwww. Senator Harris! Look what you did. You have to understand that about a third of Jeff’s RAM is dedicated to not saying the N-word, which just slows the whole system down. And that goes up to two-thirds when a smart woman of color is lobbing questions at him like a tennis ball launcher.”

And then Harris was rudely interrupted by John McCain.

Blasted Bee: “Get out of her yard! It’s almost like McCain went to Chairman Burr and was like, ‘hey, do you want me to sit in so I can keep Kamala under control? Also, I’m gonna be trippin’ balls on something. Hope that’s cool!”

And Bee also went off on CNN Trump-bot Jason Miller and his analysis of “hysterical” Harris: “Oh f**k off, you goateed tomato emoji!”
