Pulse Massacre Victims Remembered in Heartwrenching Video on Anniversary of Attack: WATCH
We will never forget the horrific Pulse nightclub massacre which took the lives of 49 mostly LGBT victims one year ago today.
The Orlando Sentinel has posted 49 short stories of victims, remembered by family and friends. Accompanying their coverage are individual videos, some of which are compiled in this 20-minute clip, which you likely won’t be able to get through without shedding tears.
Leading off the interviews is Christine Leinonen, the mother of Orlando shooting victim Christopher Leinonen, who offered a powerful speech at the Democratic Convention about her son’s life and the need for common sense gun laws.
Leinonen talks about receiving her son’s personal effects six months after the tragedy, which included a shirt and pair of jeans riddled with bullet holes.

John Oliver Hilariously Points Out Why the Comey Hearings Were Disastrous for Trump: WATCH
John Oliver looked back at last week’s testimony from fired FBI Director James Comey and the unbelievable reactions from Donald Trump and Paul Ryan.
Oliver launched the segment with Comey’s criticism of Trump’s attacks on the FBI and Comey’s standing within it, labeling Trump a liar and calling the attacks “lies, plain and simple.”
Said Oliver:
“Trump’s lies are never plain and simple. Each one is like an everlasting gobstopper. You’ll never make it through every layer because it was produced by an insane person who should never be in charge of anything.”
Oliver also expressed his astonishment at Comey’s demeanor:
“He is describing his meeting with the president like a person who thought he was about to be murdered. All of a sudden, we were alone, so I texted my location to a friend and tried to get some of his DNA under my fingernails.”
And the details of the dinner where Trump allegedly asked for Comey’s loyalty:
“He was tricked into a one-on-one dinner with Donald Trump, which is definitely not the first time that that has happened. Comey is just lucky that Trump didn’t try the old hole-in-a-bucket-of-popcorn trick.”
Oliver also looked at Trump’s tweet attacking Comey’s testimony:
Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication…and WOW, Comey is a leaker!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 9, 2017
Said Oliver:” Just think about what he’s saying there: Trump is essentially claiming that he’s been vindicated by testimony that he’s claiming is false. At this point, he’s become a walking logical paradox. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he just starts tweeting things like, ‘I just traveled back in time and killed myself.Very unfair!’”
Finally, Oliver mocked Paul Ryan’s excuse for Trump’s interactions with Comey, that he’s just “new to this” whole politics thing.
Said Oliver:
“There are so many problems with what he just said, but the main one is that there are undeniable times when the excuse ‘he’s new to this’ is fair: If you work at a daycare and on your first day you mix up the three Olivias, no big deal. You’re new here. But if on your first day you set up a Baby Fight Club, that is not OK and you should have known that before you started. And a president attempting to shut down an investigation into a subordinate is pretty firmly the latter option here, and you want their supervisors to look into that—even if the first rule of Baby Fight Club is you can’t talk about Baby Fight Club in an open setting.”

Pulse Survivor Learns to Move Forward With the Help of Family, Community & Nation Behind Him
Pulse Survivor Learns to Move Forward With the Help of Family, Community & Nation Behind Him
Angel Colon’s life would change forever the night of June 12, 2016, at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, when a gunman shot and killed 49 people and injured dozens more. Colon sustained six gunshot wounds and suffered a broken femur, barely surviving that horrifying night.
Colon, 27, an avid jogger and Zumba instructor who prided himself on his fitness regime — once managing to lose 85 pounds by running every morning and evening — was left debilitated. And though his path to recovery has been long and arduous, he is determined to return to his former self.
“I couldn’t do anything about it, so I just decided I have to move forward,” Colon said. “I need to just recover from this and do my best to just get back to where I was.”
His recovery included four surgeries as well as intense physical therapy to regain his energy and strength. Immediately following the attack, Colon admits he was upset and angry, but soon realized that the only way to truly heal was to stay positive. He credits his determination and zeal to the support provided by his mother and sisters.
“My recovery would be completely different if I didn’t have them by my side. They’ve always been there for me,” said Colon. “Our bond has always been strong, but it’s even stronger now.”
The outpouring of support for Colon extended far beyond his family. Local communities, organizations, and cities across the country showed unwavering support in honoring the victims and survivors of the Orlando shooting; monuments across the world illuminated the night sky in rainbow colors, signifying solidarity with the LGBTQ community following the tragedy.
“Feeling the love and support not just from your city and your country, but from all over the world — it helped a lot,” said Colon.
He says the love and support he and other survivors have experienced drives him everyday to make the best out of tragic circumstances.
“Being able to be here everyday, it’s like you have a second chance in life and I’m going to make the best of it.”

We Remember the Victims of the Orlando Tragedy
On June 12, 2016, a deadly attack at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando claimed the lives of 49 people — most of them young, LGBTQ and Latinx — and rocked our nation to its core. We will never forget, and we will never stop standing with Orlando. It is important that we not only remember those killed at Pulse, but that we #HonorThemWithAction.
