Ewan McGregor Does Double ‘Fargo’ Duty, ‘Feud’ Says Farewell and More TV This Week

Ewan McGregor Does Double ‘Fargo’ Duty, ‘Feud’ Says Farewell and More TV This Week

Feud: Bette and Joan

Check out our weekly guide to TV this week, and make sure you’re catching the big premieres, crucial episodes and the stuff you won’t admit you watch when no one’s looking.

What will the fallout look like after Survivor: Game Changers contestant Zeke was outed as trans last week? Find out in a new episode Wednesday at 8 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

If you can’t get enough Ewan McGregor, you won’t want to miss the third season of Fargo, premiering Wednesday at 10 p.m. Eastern on FX. The Scottish hunk will play two brothers in the latest installment, also starring Jim Gaffigan and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

The lip syncs on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race have been some of the series’ worst. See if celebs can do them better on a new episode of Lip Sync Battle Thursday at 10 p.m. on Spike. This week, out entertainer Ricky Martin throws down against Kate Upton.

Can anyone topple Valentina in the judges’ eyes on RuPaul’s Drag Race? The fairly new queen (only doing this for 10 months) has been surging beyond the other queens, but can she maintain that momentum? Only time (and Ru) will tell. Tune in Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern on VH1.

The clash of the classic Hollywood titans reaches its conclusion with the finale of Feud: Bette and Joan, Sunday at 10 p.m. Eastern on FX. Missed any of this season? Catch up with our recaps.

What are you watching on TV this week?

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley condemns LGBTQ attacks in Chechnya

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley condemns LGBTQ attacks in Chechnya

Last week GLAAD – the world’s LGBTQ media advocacy organization – released a public call urging U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley to condemn the violent attacks on LGBTQ men in Chechnya and investigate reports of anti-LGBTQ concentration camps set up by the Chechen government. GLAAD’s public call received widespread support on Twitter. Today Ambassador Haley released a statement.

She said:

“We continue to be disturbed by reports of kidnapping, torture, and murder of people in Chechnya based on their sexual orientation and those persecuted by association. If true, this violation of human rights cannot be ignored – Chechen authorities must immediately investigate these allegations, hold anyone involved accountable, and take steps to prevent future abuses.

We are against all forms of discrimination, including against people based on sexual orientation. When left unchecked, discrimination and human rights abuses can lead to destabilization and conflict.

Tomorrow, the United States will lead a first-ever meeting on human rights in international conflicts in the UN Security Council to underscore our commitment to addressing human rights abuses wherever they threaten international peace and security.”

GLAAD responded:

“The attacks on LGBTQ men and reports of concentration camps in Chechnya were beyond horrific, and Ambassador Haley is taking the right step in speaking out against these blatant violations of human rights,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO. “This is a powerful sign that the U.S. Mission to the United Nations will continue to prioritize LGBTQ acceptance and fight discrimination and human rights abuses around the world.”

GLAAD’s call to action for Ambassador Haley to speak out followed reports that more than 100 LGBTQ men are being detained in Russian-controlled Chechnya because of their perceived sexual orientation, with three men allegedly being killed. Last week, international media outlets including the International Business Times released disturbing stories around two suspected concentration camp-style prisons where the men are forced to endure many forms of physical and verbal abuse at the hands of government officials including electrocution and violent beatings. Some are reportedly being held from their families at ransom.

In addition to Ambassador Haley’s remarks, other world leaders have also publicly condemned Chechnya’s reported torture on LGBTQ men.

About GLAAD: GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love. Would You Pay $80 an Hour to Be Professionally Cuddled? — WATCH

A recent video featuring queer-identified professional cuddler Christopher Ammon takes a look at the world of cuddling service Cuddlist.

Ammon calls the service, established in 2016, “the most accessible, reliable source of connection” and is enthusiastic about his work:

“A year ago I both came out of the closet and left the Mormon Church while appearing on MTV’s ‘The Real World,” Ammon told The Huffington Post. “I lost my family, my community… everything. It was devastating.”

He says that a friend introduced him to Cuddlist and paid for his cuddling training, which includes an in-person or online orientation training course and attending at least one Cuddle Party workshop, and subsequently, his life has changed.

“I now consider my clients to be some of my dearest friends,” he said. “Learning about their lives, their heartaches, their dreams… it helps me to better understand my own.”

According to a press release sent to HuffPost, Cuddlist’s mission is to “address touch deprivation in a safe, professional environment” by using “touch and non-sexual intimacy.” Sessions cost $80 an hour and the company has 80 professional cuddlers working in major cities across the United States. A clear set of guidelines provided by Cuddlist to clients makes sure “the cuddle session remains comfortable for both people.”

While the notion—and the name itself—of cuddling can seem lighthearted, the service’s benefits are billed as quite serious. Its proprietors view it a bulwark against depression and social isolation. Ammon frames it as a tool against the struggles that members of his community can often face:

“I want to be a part of the fight against LGBTQIA suicide,” he said. “What this does is that it actively fights against loneliness.”

HRC Mississippi Holds Legislative Hearing at the Capitol

HRC Mississippi Holds Legislative Hearing at the Capitol

Post submitted by HRC Faith Organizer Daniel Ball

HRC Mississippi, along with the ACLU of Mississippi, held a legislative hearing at the Capitol in support of comprehensive, non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people. HRC Faith Organizer Daniel Ball was among the six representatives who argued their case in support of LGBTQ protections.

“The lack of explicit federal protections and the patchwork of state protections are inadequate, leaving LGBTQ people across our state vulnerable to discrimination,” Ball said. “In too many places, LGBTQ people are treated like second class citizens. We need comprehensive protections for LGBTQ people in core civil rights categories, including employment, housing, public spaces and services, education and federally funded programs.”

Thirty-one states, including Mississippi, still lack clear, fully inclusive non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people. Additionally, since there is no federal law that consistently protects LGBTQ people, LGBTQ people can still be denied a mortgage, credit card, student loan or other type of lending simply because of who they are. That’s why HRC endorsed the Equality Act.

HRC Mississippi was very pleased to see the level of support from our legislators and leaders. We, along with our coalition partners, are committed and driven to help develop comprehensive protections for LGBTQ Mississippians.
