In Case You Missed This Ridiculous Trump ‘Chocolate Cake’ Interview by Maria Bartiromo: WATCH

Didn’t get a chance to post this yesterday, but it’s hard to pin down the most ridiculous thing about this interview FOX Business host Maria Bartiromo did with Donald Trump about his strikes on Syria and dinner with Chinese President Xi at Mar-A-Lago.

Is it the giddy sycophantic edge-of-her-chair delivery of questions from Bartiromo or her giggling that Trump is praising her for having “treated him so good for so long?”

Is it Donald’s enthusiasm for being able to tell President Xi “during dessert” as he was “enjoying” the “most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you’ve ever seen” that he was pounding the sh*t out of a foreign country with “59 Tomahawk missiles…”all of which hit, all of which hit.”

Is it Bartiromo’s breathless agreement about the power of the missiles: “unmanned!”

Is it Donald’s inability to remember the country he’s just pounded the sh*t out of? Iraq?

Is it Donald’s admission that he didn’t want Xi to go home after a beautiful dessert and learn that “the guy you just had dinner with attacked” another country?

Is it Bartiromo’s dizzy response: “How did he react?”

Danger Lies Behind Title of Anti-LGBTQ Child Welfare Bill

Danger Lies Behind Title of Anti-LGBTQ Child Welfare Bill

Before leaving town for a two-week recess, anti-LGBTQ members of Congress gave notice that undermining LGBTQ families may be next on their agenda with the reintroduction of the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act.

Currently, there are over 405,000 children in foster care in the U.S., and roughly 100,000 are in need of a permanent, adoptive home. The legislation sponsored by Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) would allow adoption or foster care providers to refuse service on the basis of their personal religious objections—the consequences of which would be disastrous for some of America’s most vulnerable kids. Opening the door to discrimination, like this legislation does, would add to the inequality and prejudice LGBTQ families experience and would shrink the pool of qualified foster and adoptive families.

The primary purpose of the legislation is to shamefully block LGBTQ individuals or same-sex couples from adopting or fostering a child, but the ripple effect of its provisions extend far beyond our community. If passed into law, this bill would allow a religiously affiliated adoption agency to deny service to a non-Christian, straight couple. A single parent seeking to foster a child in need could be turned away just because they are not married. Under the guise of religion, the bill allows children to be used as pawns, losing the opportunity to have a forever family for the sake of political expediency. Taxpayer funds should not be used to discriminate, and must not be allowed to strip away hope from the thousands of children who need loving homes.

HRC has alerted our friends in Congress about the dangers of this legislation, and we are working closely with them to prevent it from advancing.

Survivor Transgender

SPOILERS

Things got personal, and upsetting, at Tribal Council on last night’s Survivor: Game Changers when one player, who was under fire, outed another as transgender, not just to his fellow players, but to millions of viewers.

“Why haven’t you told everyone you’re transgender,” said Jeff Varner to Zeke Smith. “What I’m showing is a deception.”

“But that’s personal!”, the other players protested, some in tears.

“That’s dirty Jeff,” said one.

Replied Varner: “I argue for the rights of transgender people every day in the state of North Carolina. I would never say or do anything to hurt anyone here!”

When Varner became upset and realized what he’d done, host Jeff Probst asked: Is it starting to hit you the gravity, that you didn’t just tell six people? You told millions of people! Is that what’s happening? You’re realizing now that…”

Said Varner: “Jeff I assumed that everyone in his world knew, so that’s my ignorance. I thought he was just deceiving these people. It never dawned on me that no one knew.”

Watch:

Smith penned a lengthy response to his outing for The Hollywood Reporter about being trans, applying to be on the show, and how he feels about Varner:

I looked to Varner, now the one hunched and quivering, and contemplated the backlash he would face. When he said what he said, he changed both of our lives forever. When he pulled me in for a hug, I felt compelled to reciprocate, both as a sign that I was willing to forgive him and that the shots he had fired missed.

But, if we’re being perfectly honest with one another, I’ve struggled with that forgiveness in the months following. I can’t foresee us sipping martinis together in Fire Island. While I can reconcile the personal slight of him outing me, I continue to be troubled by his willingness to deploy such a dangerous stereotype on a global platform.

But forgiveness does not require friendship. Forgiveness does not require forgetting or excusing his actions. Forgiveness requires hope. Hope that he understands the injury he caused and does not inflict it upon others. Hope that whatever torments his soul will plague him no more. I have hope for Jeff Varner. I just choose to hope from afar, thank you very much.

LBGT Domestic Abuse Recording

Greater Manchester Police posted a photo:

Greater Manchester has today become the first area of the UK to record domestic abuse in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT) as police take a recording method Forcewide.

Following work between Greater Manchester Police, support service Independent Choices, LGBT Foundation and specialist trainers, code D66 has been used in GMP’s City of Manchester division since June to record reports of domestic abuse in the LGBT community.

Over 100 incidents have been logged in the pilot area since then and from today, Monday 10th April, officers in all areas of Greater Manchester will use the code.

Since June, police and partners have had extra training to increase their understanding of the different needs of people who find themselves in domestic abuse situations. The partnership has also seen a new Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (or IDVA), run by Independence Choices in partnership with the LGBT Foundation.

No other police force in the UK has recorded this information before and it’s hoped that its introduction will add to Greater Manchester’s current work to capture trends and patterns and ultimately tackle the issue and support victims in the most effective way possible.

The code is being welcomed with a community event at Richmond Tearooms with partners coming together to talk to key community members about how the changes will help the community and show solidarity for tackling domestic abuse.

Detective Chief Inspector Myra Ball from GMP said: “This is a huge step forward in tackling domestic abuse specifically within the LGBT community here in Greater Manchester, and shows our commitment to supporting all victims of domestic abuse in the best way possible, for them.

“Over the six month pilot in just one area of Greater Manchester we logged over 150 incidents of LGBT domestic abuse. This code will help us to identify and monitor LGBT domestic abuse incidents, which in turn will help us shape any processes needed to tackle it.

“Across the multiagency partnership we have identified the lack of monitoring in this respect and the partnership has funded a specialist LGBT IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Adviser) at Independent Choices. We are also continuing our work on a national level with the national LGBT domestic abuse helpline at Galop to better understand the issues surrounding domestic abuse in the LGBT community and encourage victims and friends and family of victims to report the issue and have the confidence to come forward.”

GMP has previously recorded a victim’s sexuality when it has been a motivation for a hate crime but, alongside other work to raise awareness of domestic abuse within the LGBT community, this new code will see them further break down the stigma attached to domestic abuse.

The change come just a year and a half after GMP made a pledge to adapt their system as part of awareness raising campaign “There’s no pride in domestic abuse”. The first of its kind, the campaign was specifically dedicated to the LGBT community and was launched ahead of 2015’s Manchester Pride Festival.

Joanne Simpson, Manager at Independent Choices said: “Congratulations to GMP in leading the way on highlighting and identifying domestic abuse incidents in the LGBT communities. This will go a long way in breaking down barriers that prevent people coming forward to receiving help.

“We are delighted that referrals to our new LGBT IDVA Service have been coming through from GMP. This allows us to support people in the community who may have not reached out for help.”

Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said: “Domestic abuse is still very much a hidden issue in the LGBT community. But this ground-breaking move is already helping to give a clearer picture of this abuse. Combined with the investment in specialist support services and working with the LGBT Foundation, Independent Choices and others to raise awareness of violence, abuse and controlling behaviour we are challenging stigma and encouraging more people to speak out and take that first step to get help and support.”

Nik Noone, CEO of Galop said: “Domestic abuse does not discriminate, and neither should the reporting of domestic abuse. The GMP’s D66 code will not only help break down barriers to reporting, we hope it will encourage other police forces across the country to rollout similar initiatives. Galop will be working hard to support this key development for LGBT survivors.”

People in Greater Manchester are encouraged to get comfortable talking about domestic abuse in all its forms – including coercion and control – thanks to the ‘Sitting Right With You’ campaign. The campaign gets people thinking differently about domestic abuse and encourages victims or concerned friends and family to take that first step towards help and support.
