The Internet is fainting over these photos of young Justin Trudeau

Some recently unearthed photos of a young Justin Trudeau have just found their way onto the Internet, and it would be remiss of us not to share them with you.

Of course, we’re more than happy with images of current-day Trudeau — whether he’s breaking the Internet by unwittingly flaunting certain parts of his anatomy or busting out with perilously difficult yoga moves or, hottest of all, explaining quantum computing.

Nevertheless, you’ll admit the swoonability factor is strong in these stray snaps, so take a look:

Trump Administration Considering Withdrawing From UN Human Rights Council

Trump Administration Considering Withdrawing From UN Human Rights Council

United Nations

Although an immediate withdrawal is not expected, the Trump administration is reportedly considering pulling out of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC).

The HRC has been accused of bias against Israel and for including abusive governments – last year a group of African states last week launched a bid to halt the work of the first UN independent investigator appointed to help protect LGBTI people from violence and discrimination.

According to Politico, a former State Department official said there has been “a series of requests coming from the secretary of state’s office that suggests that he is questioning the value of the U.S. belonging to the Human Rights Council.”

State Department spokesman Mark Toner did not address the rumors, but said, “Our delegation will be fully involved in the work of the HRC session which starts Monday.”

nikki haleyWhite House press aides and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley (right) have declined to comment.

The HRC was established in 2006 to replace the much-maligned Human Rights Commission.

The George W. Bush administration refused to join the new council, questioning whether it would much of an improvement. However, President Barack Obama, felt it was more useful to be part of the council and try to influence it from the inside.

Episcopal Priest Launches HRC’s 47 Days of Conversation for Lent

Episcopal Priest Launches HRC’s 47 Days of Conversation for Lent

This year for the season of Lent, HRC Foundation launched a campaign that aims to tell the stories of LGBTQ people of faith. The Lenten season marks the days which lead up to Jesus’ crucifixion and subsequent resurrection.

For Christians, the resurrection is both a reminder and celebration of life, yet people continue to suffer, including members of the LGBTQ community.

“A central and inspiring part of my ministry has been working to make sure the institutional church — and religion in general — is affirming and inclusive of LGBTQ persons,” said the Reverend Dr. J. Edwin Bacon, author and reverend in the Episcopal Church. “I am a more joyful and faithful priest because of that part of my work.”

We hope the meditations offered every day from Ash Wednesday to Easter on April 16, will bless souls, revive spirits, renew minds and strengthen bodies. These stories will be hosted on the HRC website and on Twitter and Facebook.

Ephesians 3:18-19

18 And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide, how long, how high and how deep that love is. 19 [God’s] love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with everything God has for you.

Lady Gaga has taken up residence in my devotions, my sermons and my soul since the recent Super Bowl.  Her talent on display in the half-time performance was certainly of the caliber of the great athletes. Beyond her raw singing and dancing talent, the spirituality of her songs carry profound spiritual rewards. I’m thinking particularly of “Born This Way.”

The song includes the lyrics: “No matter gay, straight or bi/lesbian, transgender life/I’m on the right track baby/I was born to survive.” Referring to the messages her mother gave her about God, Lady Gaga sings,

There’s nothin’ wrong with lovin’ who you are

She said, ’cause He made you perfect, babe

I’m beautiful in my way

‘Cause God makes no mistakes

I’m on the right track, baby

I was born this way

Don’t hide yourself in regret

Just love yourself and you’re set

I’m on the right track, baby

I was born this way, born this way.

As I savor the words of Jesus always read on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, I hear God lifting up prayer and other spiritual disciplines done not for your egocentric advancement but for the rewards God gives secretly in your heart and the hearts of others.

The first heart-level reward each of us needs is to know is that God made us just the way we are…God makes no mistakes. As Gaga sings, we are called to love ourselves. The purpose of all healthy spirituality and religion is to help us live love-based lives, not fear-based lives…to see everyone as beloved by God.

Once I had the opportunity to say to a gay man on The Oprah Show that “being gay is a gift from God.”  That conviction came from my spiritual disciplines centered in praying in such a way that my prayer is not about my ego but about hearing God’s message of love for absolutely everyone God has made.

My prayer for you this Lent is that you will practice your spiritual disciplines, especially your prayer life in such a way that you know deeply how loved you are and then you are set to not only live a love-based life, but to encourage others to live a life in which they love themselves as well as all their neighbors.

Rector Emeritus, All Saints Episcopal Church

With Ryan Zinke, U.S. Senate adds another Anti-LGBTQ politician to Trump’s Administration

With Ryan Zinke, U.S. Senate adds another Anti-LGBTQ politician to Trump’s Administration

This morning, former U.S. Congressman Ryan Zinke was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be the next Secretary of the Department of Interior.

Ryan Zinke has a history of discriminatory rhetoric and opposition to LGBTQ equality. He suggested a former challenger was making a “choice” to be a lesbian and strongly opposed both adoption and marriage for LGBTQ couples. His record of opposing equality adds to the Trump Administration’s reputation of being the most vocally anti-LGBTQ in recent memory.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Ryan Zinke & His Anti-LGBTQ Record Join the Trump Administration

Zinke once implied his lesbian congressional challenger was making a choice, saying “If you want to be a lesbian…”[Associated Press, 10.6.16]

Zinke opposes adoption by same-sex couples: “I do not support same sex marriages or the adoption of children by same-sex couples.” [On The Issues]

Zinke insisted the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision on marriage equality “undermines religious freedom” and usurps the rights of Montana and several other states that have chosen to define marriage within their states. [Intelligent Discontent, 6.26.16]

Following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality, U.S. Rep Zinke cosponsored a resolution that declared the U.S. House of Representatives disagreed with the court ruling. [Congress.gov, 7.29.15]

Zinke on marriage equality: “The term ‘marriage’ is sensitive to Christians. I just don’t agree with ‘same sex’ — the term. I don’t disagree with the union. You know, maybe that group should embrace union,” Zinke said. “But the term ‘marriage’ is sensitive. It’s sacred and it’s part of the Christian culture that I think is just a bridge too far.” [Missoulian, 4.30.14]

Kathy Griffin on Trump’s Speech: ‘What an Idiot…He’s So Embarrassing’ – WATCH

Kathy Griffin on Trump’s Speech: ‘What an Idiot…He’s So Embarrassing’ – WATCH

Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin joined Chris Matthews on Hardball and had a few less swooning thoughts about Trump’s speech to Congress.

Said Griffin:

“What an idiot. We gotta watch this idiot for an hour and nine minutes? He just says one hateful thing after the other. He’s so embarrassing. Just from the beginning, you know, Melania comes in with the sequin jacket and all the white guys are like ‘hey she’s hot, maybe if I’m like him I could get her.’ The whole sham from the beginning.”

Speaking seriously about her time with working with Trumps, Griffin didn’t feel the same as Van Jones did about Trump’s moment addressing the widow of William “Ryan” Owens:

“I thought that moment of pointing out the widow it was exploiting her grief a little bit. As you know those ceremonies are very, very serious. And I feel like this is a president who doesn’t take anything seriously.”

Griffin also had something to say about Trump’s wall:

“We actually would like to keep the Mexicans. I would like to stand on the wall and throw Mexicans into the United States if I could.”

She added:

“I’m a big resister and I don’t believe in compromise with this president. I also think he’s crazy, I think he’s mentally ill. He’s also an idiot.”

Griffin then brought up the 25th amendment, which reads:

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Finally, Griffin concluded:

“Don’t act like he doesn’t say crazy stuff. He turned to me one time at one of these Larry King birthday parties…and he goes ‘so, you’re a female comedian.’ Like he’s that guy. ‘You’re a female comedian.’ I go, ‘yeah, next thing you know we’re gonna want to vote.’ And then he asks me, ‘how much do you make?’ And I go ‘how much do you make?’ And he goes ‘a billion dollars.’ And I go ‘me too.’”

HRC Blasts Arkansas Senate for Passing Absurd Anti-LGBTQ Resolution Undermining Marriage Equality

HRC Blasts Arkansas Senate for Passing Absurd Anti-LGBTQ Resolution Undermining Marriage Equality

HRC blasted the Arkansas Senate on Tuesday for passing a mean-spirited, meaningless measure calling for a convention to amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as the “union of one man and one woman.” Senate Joint Resolution 7 will now go to the state House of Representatives.

“Marriage equality is settled law, and any bill or legislator seeking to undermine it is in conflict with the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Constitution,” said Kendra R. Johnson, HRC Arkansas state director. “HRC Arkansas calls on our lawmakers put an end to these cynical, divisive theatrics, and start focusing on the issues that matter to Arkansans instead introducing a bill that would only seek to harm LGBTQ people.”

The Arkansas legislature has no authority to force Congress to begin the process of amending the U.S. Constitution, and would not be able to influence the outcome of such an undertaking. If the Constitution were to be amended in this way — which is unlikely — it would give states the ability to roll back marriage equality if they oppose it, effectively stripping away years of progress and placing millions of same-sex marriages in jeopardy.

In 2014, HRC launched Project One America, an initiative geared towards advancing social, institutional and legal equality in Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi. HRC Arkansas continues to work to advance equality for LGBTQ Arkansans who have no state level protections in housing, workplace, or public accommodations. Through HRC Arkansas, we are working toward a future of fairness every day — changing hearts, minds and laws toward achieving full equality.
