Guess how many signatures One Million Moms got on their latest non-troversy? (Hint: not a million)

Come on, Moms!

If you want people to take your bloviating seriously, you’re going to need to step up your game.

Or perhaps it’s time for One Million Moms, the antigay Christian activist group that vastly inflates its numbers in its very name, to find something else to clutch their pearls about. America just isn’t having it.

Their latest crusade comes after an adorable, totally harmless moment on Disney XD that showed two boys kissing:

It would almost be funny how these people can find evil so often in children’s entertainment — anything with an inclusive message will do — if it wasn’t so sad at the core. Many of these folks are raising children with their warped worldviews.

Here’s there call to action over the above clip:

Alerting all parents! In a first for the Disney Channel, a Disney XD show subtly displayed several gay kisses in an episode that aired a couple of days ago.

The “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” episode featured a scene at a boy band concert where several people, including same sex couples, kiss on cue with the music. The gender of various other kissing couples in the crowd is not always visible.

Though this is the first on-screen same sex PDA, Disney has included a homosexual relationship in its TV show “Good Luck Charlie.”

Disney has been under pressure from the gay community to portray openly gay relationships in its TV shows and movies. And last fall, the creators of “Moana” mentioned in an interview with a liberal media source that they wouldn’t rule out an LGBT Disney princess. Director Ron Clements said, “It seems like the possibilities are pretty open at this point.”

There’s also word the new “Beauty and the Beast” will include a gay storyline – between LeFou and Gaston. “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston. He’s confused about what he wants,” director Bill Condon told Attitude magazine. “It is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie,” Condon added.

This is the last place parents would expect their children to be confronted with content regarding sexual orientation. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, and it is becoming extremely common and unnecessary.

Disney has decided to be politically correct versus providing family-friendly entertainment. Disney should stick to entertaining instead of pushing an agenda. Conservative families need to urge Disney to avoid mature and controversial topics.

So far the complaint has been signed just over 7K times. Although that’s not exactly comforting, it’s a long cry off from a million and has zero chances of rolling back inclusivity.

See you next time, Moms.

Remarkable Footage Taken of Deep-Sea ‘Cosmic’ Jellyfish: WATCH

cosmic jellyfish

Marine researchers at work in the South Pacific have shared new footage of a distinctive, flying-saucer-like golden jellyfish at ocean depths of around 3,000 meters, or nearly 2 miles.

Scientists aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Okeanos Explorer were charting the newly-named “Utu” Seamount in the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa when they came across this preternatural specimen.

Part of its 2017 American Samoa Expedition, a NOAA remotely-operated vehicle captured the arresting images. Its Office of Ocean Exploration and Research YouTube account explains:

The jelly (hydromedusa) is in a family of hydromedusae called Rhopalonematidae, which is known for the canals running vertically on the inside of the bell, gonads attached to these canals, and sometimes having two sets of tentacles.

After traveling to Africa, CoverGirl’s new cover boy regrets Ebola joke

After traveling to Africa, CoverGirl’s new cover boy regrets Ebola joke

What a difference 10 days in South Africa makes.

Last month,CoverGirls’ first ever “Cover Boy,” 17-year-old James Charles, made everyone cringe when he fired off a racist tweet joking about Africa being a disease-ridden place where he may catch Ebola:

Not only was the tweet not funny, but it was factually inaccurate. In January, the World Health Organization said the continent of Africa was now clear of Ebola.

Charles issued a quick, half-hearted apology saying he “felt like sh*t” for the tweet before disappearing from social media.

Now, he’s back! And he says he’s a changed man.

In an Instagram post published Tuesday, Charles said he spent the last 10 days traveling across South Africa where he met with local students and learned about their culture.

Learning about the school system, education and their everyday lives was eye opening,” he wrote. “After touring the campus, I sat down with a large group of kids and talked to them about my ignorant comment which degraded their continent.”

Being able to talk to these kids about my mistake taught me an important lesson about privilege, something that has always been a concept I didn’t fully understand.”

“Through speaking with them, I became aware of the potential impact I may have–both positive and negative. I don’t want to be someone who takes advantage of this privilege.”

We’re glad it was an educational experience for him.

I just spent the past 10 days in South Africa. In Cape Town, our first stop was to a local high school. I was nervous to visit after the recent events, however I was met with endless smiles and hugs from kids that came running from all over the school. Learning about the school system, education and their everyday lives was eye opening. After touring the campus, I sat down with a large group of kids and talked to them about my ignorant comment which degraded their continent. The students made the conversation easy, informative and light hearted. Being able to talk to these kids about my mistake taught me an important lesson about privilege, something that has always been a concept I didn’t fully understand. Through speaking with them, I became aware of the potential impact I may have – both positive and negative. I don’t want to be someone who takes advantage of this privilege, or be someone who is only self-aware. I was also given the opportunity to talk to the principal of the school about gender identity and acceptance, and we had a great conversation. The students aren’t allowed to wear makeup or have long nails and there’s a strict dress code at the school, but we talked about the importance of self expression. I realize how fortunate and grateful I have been to have the opportunities that I have – and to be supported by people all over the world and called out when I mess up. My ignorance allowed for me to make a massive error. I am extremely sorry for what I said. There are no excuses. No one owes me forgiveness, but I’ve learned a lot from this experience. I hope that the people who might look up to me will be able to learn from my mistakes and not repeat them. I recognize my position as an influencer and know that it is so important to be a positive role model for all, and how in many ways, I have failed to do so. I am eager to keep learning and keep growing as a person. This trip has been one that I will never forget. From one school of Eagles to another, thank you Edgemead for such an incredible and humbling experience.

Baz Luhrmann’s New Vegas Show ‘BAZ – Star Crossed Love’ is the Ultimate Date Night

Baz Luhrmann’s New Vegas Show ‘BAZ – Star Crossed Love’ is the Ultimate Date Night

Baz - Star-Crossed Love

If the proliferation of Gatsby-themed weddings and “Lady Marmalade” karaoke massacres are any indication, there’s a part of all of us that wishes we could live inside a Baz Luhrmann film. Vegas visitors have the chance to step inside the glitzy, glamorous world of the visionary writer-director in BAZ – Star-Crossed Love.

The innovative stage show weaves a narrative around some of Luhrmann’s most beloved works — Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby. True to its title, Star-Crossed Love champions the romance and razzamatazz that’s made Luhrmann an icon.

Not only do audiences witness the grand spectacle, they’re encouraged to participate as well. The immersive staging invites audience members to sing and dance along Tuesday through Sunday at the Palazzo Theatre.

Reacquaint yourself with some of Luhrmann’s greatest hits in the clips below and see why a trip to Baz – Star-Crossed Love is the ultimate date night.

The quintessential tale of star-crossed love was also the basis of Luhrmann’s second film in his Red Curtain Trilogy, Romeo + Juliet. Starring a young Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, it’s a punky modernization of the Shakespeare classic. Of the two early DiCaprio dreamboat films, this one will leave you and your date with much less of a sinking feeling.

Back before Girl Talk and Glee were serving up surprising musical mash-ups, Moulin Rouge! created a rousing medley of contemporary hits served with the razzle-dazzle of a late-1890s cabaret. The film famously utilized Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” a track that rarely appears in film, but it’s said Courtney Love herself helped ease the licensing when she was originally up for Nicole Kidman’s part.

The biggest hit off the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack was a cover of Labelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” The modern “Marmalade,” performed by Mya, P!nk, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott and Christina Aguilera, even topped the Billboard Hot 100. After the show, you and your bae can spend the rest of the evening guessing which “Marmalade” lady you identify with the most, or maybe just entertain each other with an Aguilera vocal riff competition.

Sorry for the F. Scott Fitzgerald spoiler, but there’s a delicious irony in the original tune “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” in the 2013 film version The Great Gatsby. The flashy flick injected Luhrmann’s signature style into the literary classic, creating a spectacle that spawned several Real Housewives theme parties. You and your man can drink in the old school glamour (without all the, you know, murder) by donning some three-piece suits and raising a martini (or two or ten).

The Gatsby soundtrack was executive produced by Jay-Z, and since everything is always better with Beyoncé, you can get in the spirit with this jazzy take on her hit “Crazy In Love.” It’s performed by Emeli Sandé on the soundtrack, but if you need to hear Queen Bey’s voice, check out her version of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” to get your toes tapping.

Get your tickets for BAZ – Star-Crossed Love at the Palazzo Theatre today. (Finding your date is all on you, though.)

Teach Acceptance, #LoveYourNeighbor and Progress as a Community

Teach Acceptance, #LoveYourNeighbor and Progress as a Community

John truly loves his home state of Mississippi. He describes a warmth the state brings to him when he’s home, and the welcoming feeling he receives when he returns from out-of-state travel.

When John made the brave decision to come out publicly, many of his friends in Mississippi stood by him, reinforcing his decision to live his truth. But the fact that state lawmakers have several anti-LGBTQ bills on the docket for consideration in 2017 is a stark reminder of how much work still remains in the state he loves.

“My relationship with Mississippi is that it’s home,” John said in a video for HRC’s #LoveYourNeighbor campaign, a storytelling series focused on sharing the stories of LGBTQ and allied people in Tupelo. “It can be offensive when you have some of the political things and the discriminatory laws that are basically being projected upon the LGBT community. This is our home, and when you have your home place discriminating against you, it does diminish that to a degree and you just have to work past it.”

John has faith that by promoting tolerance and understanding within children and youth, Tupelo and Mississippi residents will help shape a more accepting environment for the future.

“I believe that the young people of Mississippi are the pathway for Mississippi to become the great state that it can be,” John said. “I think it’s our responsibility as parents and as adults to lead them in a way so they can grow in a loving way, and to love thy neighbor and to be accepting of everyone. If we don’t teach them that, we’re not going to progress.”

On Tuesday, March 7, the #LoveYourNeighbor campaign will culminate with a town hall discussion in Tupelo featuring all seven videos of the participants. You can learn more about the town hall here.

In 2014, HRC launched Project One America, a comprehensive multi-year effort to dramatically expand LGBTQ equality in the South through permanent campaigns in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.
