48% of Millennials say they prefer to have sex before the first date, study finds
More and more singles are cutting right to the chase by having sex first and, if that works out, following it up with a date, a new study has found.
5,500 single men and women from various different age groups participated in the survey conducted by Singles in America. Of those 5,500, 34% said they prefer to have sex before grabbing dinner or drinks. Millennials were the most likely age group to report this behavior, with 48% saying they liked to sample the goods first before committing to an actual date, which requires considerable more time, not to mention money.

“[Millennials] are very career oriented,” Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist who helped develop the survey says, “so sex before the first date could be a sex interview, where they want to know if they want to spend time with this person.”
Sex therapist Kimberly Resnick agrees, saying that people, in general, don’t view sex as intimately as they once did.
“We used to think of sex as you crossed the line now you are in an intimate zone,” Anderson says, “but now sex is almost a given and it’s not the intimate part. The intimate part is getting to know someone and going on a date.”

But don’t go thinking people are only interested interested in getting their rocks off. Over 80% of respondents said they’re looking for love, and millennials, in particular, said they’re looking to get married, with 54% reporting that they hope to start a family, and 35% saying they felt pressured to tie the knot because that’s what their friends are doing.
Other interesting findings from the study:

Kristen Stewart to Donald Trump: ‘I’m So Gay, Dude’: WATCH
He’s tweeted about her on eleven separate occasions, including once—retweeted nearly 23,000 times—in which he says she cheated “like a dog,” so actress Kristen Stewart finally responded in kind to Trump.
In her monologue for Saturday Night Live over the weekend, in an episode that would already draw much attention for its celebrated Melissa-McCarthy-as-Sean-Spicer sketch, Stewart pondered the Tweeter-in-Chief’s bygone obsession with her and then defiantly proclaimed her sexual identity:
Four years ago, I was dating this guy named Rob and we broke up and then we got back together and for some reason it made Donald Trump go insane. So, yeah that’s crazy, right? The president is not a huge fan of me, but that is so OK, and Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re really probably not going to like me now, ’cause I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, so gay, dude.
The star of Twilight franchise fame had a high-profile on-again, off-again romance with co-star Robert Pattinson, although she has also dated women, including ex-girlfriend Alicia Cargile. She has previously declined to define her sexuality specifically, despite her openness about her same-sex relationships.
That made her her quip more than just a clever and effective one-liner. By embracing the identifier “gay,” even as a catch-all LGBTQ term, Stewart counted herself as a visible presence among the community, and in matter-of-fact fashion. The anti-Trump context is even more significant considering LBGT activists’ resistance to this administration and the havoc it has already wrought among other marginalized groups.

Senate Democrats Launch 24-Hour, All-Night Protest of Anti-LGBT Education Nominee Betsy DeVos
Senate Democrats announced they will be holding the floor for the next 24 hours before a final confirmation vote on Betsy DeVos. They need just one more Republican to join them to block DeVos’s nomination.
“Democrats will hold the floor for the next 24 hours, until the final vote, to do everything we can to persuade just one more Republican to join us,” Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) said from the Senate floor Monday.
Unless Democrats agree to yield back some debate time, a final vote on DeVos is expected for noon Tuesday, when Vice President Mike Pence will likely need to break a 50-50 tie.
A spokesman for Murray confirmed that “Democrats plan to keep the floor open and there will be speeches over the night in this final push.”
Republicans advanced DeVos’s nomination in a 6:30 am vote on Friday.

DeVos, who plagiarized answers to questions from senators regarding her viewpoints, has a terrible record for LGBT people.
Writes Lambda Legal:
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students contact Lambda Legal every day to seek help being safe at school. We need a Secretary of Education who will make schools safe for all students, and who won’t tolerate bullying – by peers, parents, or school administrators. What we know so far about Betsy DeVos’s record concerns us. She has supported Focus on the Family, which opposes marriage equality, and her family foundation has funded a group that advances the dangerous practice of so-called ‘conversion therapy.’ Her advocacy for privatizing public education could eject students – LGBT or not – from the protection of federal laws. A complete confirmation process for Betsy DeVos is necessary in order to fully investigate whether she supports equal rights for LGBT students.
Under the Obama administration, the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights has aggressively policed civil rights issues — such as cracking down on colleges that mishandle sexual assault cases, and urging schools to extend anti-bullying policies to cover LGBT students. During the election, the Trump campaign was critical of the civil rights office, with some Trump surrogates questioning its very existence. DeVos has said little about such issues, but civil rights advocates have said they’re “deeply concerned” that she might seek to rein in the office’s enforcement efforts. They note the DeVos family has a long history of supporting anti-gay causes — including donating hundreds of thousands to groups that push “conversion therapy” — raising questions about how DeVos would address discrimination against gay and transgender students. Democrats and advocacy groups are also concerned about donations that DeVos’ foundation made to another group, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, which has pushed to raise the standard of evidence in sexual assault cases on college campuses. Ed Patru, a spokesman for a group of DeVos supporters, said she sees private school vouchers and charter schools as a civil rights issue. “In hundreds of communities of color, kids aren’t being taught the skills they need to succeed in college or find the kinds of jobs that pay enough to escape poverty, and Betsy believes that is an alarming civil rights crisis,” Patru said.
She also believes guns should be allowed in schools…to prevent grizzly bear attacks.

Learn about gender with Katie Couric in National Geographic doc 'Gender Revolution'
Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric, airing tonight on the National Geographic channel, is a two-hour documentary that explores how gender is defined, formed, and influenced by science, society, and self – making it an excellent companion to National Geographic magazine’s January issue which is devoted entirely to covering gender all around the world.
Journalist Katie Couric travels across the United States and to Samoa to talk with experts about the role genetics, brain chemistry, and culture play in defining and forming gender identity, while also engaging in intimate conversations with transgender and gender non-conforming people and their families to better understand their personal experiences, including Gavin Grimm, the Virginia teenage trans boy whose legal case to be treated like every other boy in school, will be heard before the Supreme Court next month.
The documentary is an educational and enlightening exploration of gender, and a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about transgender people and how gender identity is defined, formed, and influenced.
The 154-page January issue of National Geographic magazine takes readers on a trip around the globe, profiling young people from the Americas to the Middle East, Africa to China about how gender is felt, viewed, shared, and shaped in cultures and local communities. One of the featured articles, “Rethinking Gender” by Robin Marantz Henig, is nominated for a 28th Annual GLAAD Media Award.
Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric premieres Monday, February 6 at 9:00 pm ET on the National Geographic channel.
Following the broadcast premiere, Katie Couric will host a Facebook Live town hall discussion, allowing viewers to submit questions and comments, as well as hear updates about people seen in the documentary. The conversation will be live streamed on the main National Geographic Facebook page.

Peter Thiel is looking for a “versatile” personal assistant who is available 24/7
Looking for a new job? Billionaire Peter Thiel is looking to hire a “versatile, energetic and proactive” personal assistant who can help him with his daily responsibilities while running his business empire Thiel Capital.
According to the job listing, available on LinkedIn, Peter is looking for someone with a “positive, can-do attitude” who pays close “attention to detail” and has “the ability to multitask without letting anything slip, a willingness to travel, and a focus on personal tasks.”

You know, stuff like packing and unpacking his suitcases when he travels, “acting as a valet,” picking up his dry cleaning, scheduling his appointments, and making sure his bathroom is always fully stocked with his expensive “personal-care supplies.”
“You must exhibit a demonstrated ability to perform duties with a polished level of professionalism, tact, discretion, and judgement,” the listing demands. “While we expect a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and integrity, we also embrace light-heartedness, humor, and fun in our employees.”

Hmm. “Light-hearted,” “humorous,” and “fun” are not words we would use to describe Mr. Thiel, but–hey–maybe he’s a really nice guy behind closed doors?
The prospective employee must be available by phone and/or email 4/7, must be available to travel long distances on a minute’s notice, and should be able to anticipate Peter’s needs before he even knows he needs them.
We have no idea what the job pays, but it does include health, dental and vision, a 401(k), and a company cellphone, along with other “potential benefits.”
Boy with Down Syndrome Dances to Lady Gaga’s Halftime Show: ‘He Was Born His Way Too’ – WATCH
Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl performance was amazing in a lot of ways, but the inclusion of “Born This Way”, which speaks to all kinds of marginalized people, was incredibly powerful.
The anthem speaks to everyone, as illustrated by this touching video shared by David M. Perry on Twitter, featuring his son who has Down syndrome.
Wrote Perry: “He was born his way too.”
Perry later commented: “My son dances like someone’s watching. In fact he checks every so often and gets mad if you’re not watching.”

And Twitter is applauding….
On a related note, Teen Vogue points out this:
Clearly, many people watching didn’t realize that the song “Born This Way” is designed for the LGBTQ community. If you’ve been to a Pride March in the past four years, you’d know a thing or two about dancing to “Born This Way” while you’re surrounded by a ton of glitter, bare skin, and glorious, rainbow solidarity. Let’s just be clear here, though: Performing a song that’s so blatantly gay in front of an audience that includes Mike Pence, one of the most anti-LGBTQ politicians today, is absolutely political — especially when it contains lyrics like “No matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgender life.” (PS: According to USA Today, that’d “likely” be the first time the word “transgender” was said onstage at a Super Bowl.)
Furthermore, as our friends at The Hive pointed out, the Woody Guthrie song “This Land Is Your Land” is actually inherently activistic. Gaga omitted certain lyrics from the piece, which The Hive printed for your convenience. Here’s a sampling:
As I went walking I saw a sign there / And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.” / But on the other side it didn’t say nothing, / That side was made for you and me.
Nobody living can ever stop me, / As I go walking that freedom highway; / Nobody living can ever make me turn back / This land was made for you and me.
“This land was made for you and me,” she sang, in the same weekend where Donald Trump’s executive order — one that was designed to fulfill his campaign promise of banning Muslims from entering our country — was essentially (if temporarily) rendered moot by a judge in Washington state.
