Trapped in a glided cage: Does Melania Trump deserve our sympathy?

Trapped in a glided cage: Does Melania Trump deserve our sympathy?

Ever since a candid nine second clip that captured Melania Trump looking absolutely distraught over something her husband grumbled at her during last week’s inauguration began circulating on social media, the Internet has been crying out for America’s new First Lady. The hashtag #FreeMelania started trending, with people uploading memes and other messages of support to a woman who clearly has no desire or preparation for the tremendous new responsibility that has been thrust upon her. She appears to be floundering in a swamp of chaos with no one, least of all her husband, to reach to for support.

But not everyone’s heart is bleeding for the 46-year-old QVC saleswoman with an alleged billionaire husband. Many have pointed out that she used to peddle the racist birther theory and once went on national television to accuse President Obama of being a foreigner. She also defended her husband’s “p*ssy grabbing” remarks during the campaign, and threatened to sue media outlets out of existence if they wrote unfavorable things about her. Oh, and she stole Michelle Obama’s speech. All this, of course, was after she stole her husband from another woman way back in 1998. So, yeah, she’s not exactly the perfect picture of a charity case.

Still, it’s hard not to feel just a little for a woman who spent all of last Friday morning looking like this:

And all of last Friday evening looking like this:

Spencer has been whining about the punch since the day it was happened, while he was explaining the anti-Semitic symbol Pepe the Frog to an interviewer on the streets near the inauguration.

Teigen had enough.

After Spencer complained, “I am not what happened to me. I am what I chose to become,” Teigen replied:

“Richard Spencer you became someone who was punched in the face.”

Spencer replied: “Chrissy Teigen they don’t teach models Nelson Mandela quotations apparently,” to which Teigen replied:

“Richard Spencer you are literally a nazi. I don’t even need to come up with a comeback. Really takes the pressure off. Thanks, nazi!”

Trump Accountability Project Tracks discriminatory rhetoric and record

Trump Accountability Project Tracks discriminatory rhetoric and record

GLAAD

GLAAD has launched the Trump Accountability Project (TAP). This resource is geared towards journalists, editors, producers, and other news makers reporting on the Trump administration which tracks the anti-LGBTQ statements and actions of Donald Trump and those in or being considered for his administration. TAP also catalogues other discriminatory and hateful statements made by Trump and his appointees.

“Since Donald Trump’s rise to president-elect, we have seen an unprecedented amount of misinformation and blatant lies go unquestioned and unchallenged in national news media,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “The rampant misinformation promulgated by Trump and those in his circle often contributes to a climate of hostility that puts marginalized communities in harm’s way. The Trump Accountability Project will shine a spotlight of truth on the hateful records of individuals who are or may be participating in the upcoming administration.”

Based on GLAAD’s successful Commentator Accountability Project, TAP will equip journalists, as well as everyday people, to hold Trump and his administration accountable for their words and actions. It will also serve as a reminder that many in the incoming administration have blatantly pledged to dismantle the legal protections that LGBTQ people, as well as other communities, have achieved over the past several years.

TAP will include first-hand statements, video, and/or audio to document the animus displayed by people being appointed to or considered for positions of power in the Trump administration. GLAAD will update the profiles with new statements that disparage LGBTQ people, women, Muslims, immigrants, and many others.

“All too-often, journalists on deadline don’t have the time or resources to fully uncover the detestable history of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and voting records of many people in Trump’s circle,” continued Ellis. “This project will put this critical information into the hands of newsrooms, editors, hosts, and reporters so that they may better report on and challenge the hateful actions and statements of those they are covering.”

Donald Trump Wants ‘Major Investigation’ Into Voter Fraud

Donald Trump Wants ‘Major Investigation’ Into Voter Fraud

Trump Melanias ballot

Guess what Donald Trump is calling for this morning, the day after being called out by the majority of major news outlets, including the New York Times, about his blatant lies on voter fraud in the November election?

An investigation into the ‘voter fraud’ that he concocted.

I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and….

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 25, 2017

even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time). Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!

However, the researcher who produced the data suspected of being behind Trump’s assertions, says his data was wrong, CNN reports:

Brian Schaffner, a political scientist at the University of Massachusetts, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room” Tuesday his study on voter fraud that is apparently being cited by the White House did not support the President’s conclusions….

White House press secretary Sean Spicer did not say expressly on Tuesday which study Trump has read to support his claim of 3 to 5 million illegally cast votes, but a 2014 study by Jesse Richman and David Earnest found more than 14% of non-citizens in 2008 and 2010 “indicated that they were registered to vote.”

The study was designed by Schaffner’s Cooperative Congressional Election Study, but he told Blitzer that he and his colleagues spoke with voters who had self-identified themselves as “non-citizens” and discovered that they had all mistakenly clicked the wrong radio button during the survey — and they were all actually citizens.

PS, we also have this to look forward to (not):

I will be making my Supreme Court pick on Thursday of next week.Thank you!

I'll love you 'til the sky falls down

I’ll love you ’til the sky falls down
I’ll love you ’til I can’t feel anything,
Not anything at all
And even when you’re not around
I’ll love you ’til the sky falls down
I’m flying ’til I hit the ground
And lying there and I don’t feel anything
Not anything at all
And even when you’re not around
I’ll love you til the sky falls down
