Wentworth Miller Perfectly Strikes Back At Troll Who Said He’s Not “A Real Man”

Wentworth Miller Perfectly Strikes Back At Troll Who Said He’s Not “A Real Man”

main-wentworth-miller

It all began when Wentworth Miller shared an article entitled “4 Ways Sexist, Macho Culture Hurts Men.”

The gist of the piece — in case its not entirely obvious from the headline — is that outmoded concepts of masculinity — and in particular “macho culture” — promotes aggression, repressed emotions, and general societal ills.

Well, that prompted one man to refer to Wentworth Miller as “a little bitch” and not “a real man.”

“A real man on camera and nothing but a little bitch in real life,” wrote an unusually malignant gentleman from Germany. “Way to go, Michael.” (That’s the name of Miller’s character in Prison Break.)

The actor and screenwriter decided this little bit of unpleasantness was the perfect opportunity to illustrate an ever-valid point.

“Normally I would just ban this person,” he writes. “Their sentiments have zero nutritional value and, in my opinion, reflect an antiquated belief system that is not only harmful, but on its way out.”

That said, the attitude expressed does open the door to some interesting topics. Like gender performance, gender policing, shaming, sexuality, projection, toxic masculinity, and the lowering of public discourse.”

Later on, he further explained why he thought the comment should be highlighted:

I’ve read some lovely comments today. There was a lot of food for thought. I also read a lot of advice. Much of which boiled down to ‘It’s only words.’ ‘Sticks and stones.’ Etc.

“I recognize, and appreciate, that this is coming from a positive, supportive, protective place. If only it was true.

“Words matter. Labels matter. The way in which we speak to and about each other matters. Politicians spewing hate from the podium one day translates into real world violence the next. We know this.

“What’s more, IMO, ‘You shouldn’t let it get to you’ is code for ‘man up.’ With respect, I consider it to be another form of gender policing.

“For the record, this person’s comment was momentarily unpleasant. Then it was over. It affected me because I’m a human being.

“I feel things. Then I move through them. And one of the ways I do that is by examining the situation and looking for the gift. The gold. The lesson.”

“And as someone who’s been called a ‘little bitch’ before (because #sexism #misogyny #homophobia #toxicmasculinity), this felt like an opportunity for dissection and discussion. And I took it. Hence the repost.”

Will Johnny Depp Play Albus Dumbledore’s Gay Lover in ‘Fantastic Beasts’?

Will Johnny Depp Play Albus Dumbledore’s Gay Lover in ‘Fantastic Beasts’?

Rumors have begun to swirl that Johnny Depp will play the gay lover of a young Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

A recent trailer for the film appears to peep a view of this wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, a dark lord who is something of a precursor to You Know Who (Voldemort, you guys).

I’ve been told from someone close to production that this IS Grindelwald. Shot appears at very beginning of movie t.co/a16ZRUd44v pic.twitter.com/z0fT4HxNHn

An examination of the screenshot and a consideration of Depp’s recent coiffure led some to speculate that Depp may indeed be playing Grindelwald in the 1920s-set film.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed earlier this month that Depp would be joining the franchise and making an appearance in the first Fantastic Beats film before returning with a larger role in the sequel:

Depp will be making a cameo in Fantastic Beasts, but his character is being kept under wraps so audiences will have to keep an eye out.

David Yates will return to the director’s chair for the follow-up, which has already been dated for Nov. 16, 2018.

During a fan event earlier this month in Hollywood, J.K. Rowling made a surprise announcement that she has finished the plot for five films in the Fantastic Beast franchise. (The franchise was previously reported as a trilogy.)

The world of witchcraft and wizardry seems like a perfect fit for the actor who is known for such fantastical ciematic roles as Edward Scissorhands and Captain Jack Sparrow.

The addition of Depp to the franchise did spur controversy given the allegations of abuse leveled against him by former wife Amber Heard.

More on the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald via The Independent:

As mentioned in the Harry Potter films, Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in a three-hour duel, winning the Elder Wand’s allegiance as a result (the Elder Wand being one of the three Deathly Hallows, teased in a recent poster).

Before their relationship fell apart, however, Grindelwald and Dumbledore were best friends, becoming enamoured by the Deathly Hallows together – a fight between Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth and Grindelwald that led to their sister’s death resulted in the friendship ending.

Watch the trailer which has the alleged cameo, below.

In Case There’s Still Confusion, Country’s Leading Antigay Activist Is A ‘Yuge Trump Supporter

In Case There’s Still Confusion, Country’s Leading Antigay Activist Is A ‘Yuge Trump Supporter

Tony Perkins

You will no doubt be shocked beyond measure to learn that Tony Perkins, one of the worst anti-gay zealots in the world, really likes the cut of Donald Trump’s jib. Yes sir, that’s a mighty fine jib. Excellent jibbing. Top notch. The best. Very classy jib.

Perkins told his followers in a conference call that a Trump presidency would be excellent news for their efforts to oppress LGBTs. That’s no surprise — for this entire campaign, Trump has either ignored the needs of queer people or been outright hostile. The best sign of his awareness of the community was when he grabbed someone else’s upside-down rainbow flag and waved it for a few seconds.

Hillary, on the other hand, has multiple in-depth plans to deal with employment and housing discrimination, international threats, and the lingering impact of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

But Trump has surrounded himself with people who hate the gays, and so it’s probably a safe bet that he does not have our best interests at heart. Trump supports the FADA, an act that would let hospitals turn away gay couples for treatment. He’d rescind Obama’s executive orders that protected our jobs from homophobic federal contractors. And let’s not forget his running mate Mike Pence, who actually killed LGBT people by yanking money away from AIDS programs and needle exchanges.

“I’ve had to fight every campaign except Donald Trump’s campaign,” Perkins said. “They actually worked with us on the platform, in fact whipped, meaning gathered votes, on one of my amendments.”

He also had harsh words for Clinton: “As Secretary of State, Clinton went in and they strong-armed foreign governments that were disproportionately Christian in their orientation, and they were told to promote the LGBT agenda or lose their financial aid from the United States of America.”

He’s talking about how Clinton withheld aid from countries that violated LGBT civil rights, which is, of course, a good thing.

Hillary Clinton released a two-minute video set to air on Monday night on major networks during prime time. In the clip, Clinton speaks directly to voters asking them if they want a “dark and divisive” America or a “hopeful and inclusive” one.

Mediaite reports:

“The spot will air during NBC’s reality singing competition The Voice, and the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait, starring Kevin James. The ad is not scheduled to air during ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Donald Trump‘s own two-minute closing ad aired across multiple networks throughout the day during NFL games on Sunday. Trump’s ad will also be seen on The Voice, according to CNN’s Brian Stelter.”

CNN’s “Millennial Trump Voter” Reminds People Of Someone, But Who?

CNN’s “Millennial Trump Voter” Reminds People Of Someone, But Who?

As the election looms mere hours in our collective future, ideological debate has reached something of a stalemate — if you don’t know where you stand on the most pressing issues of the day, you truly have been living under a rock.

But while the room for political discourse may have reached a temporary ceasefire until the votes are counted and the future secured, there is still one item of extreme import up for debate: Who, exactly, does CNN’s “Millennial Trump voter” remind you of?

Alex Griswold, a reporter for Mediaite, sparked the conversation with a Tweet this morning:

CNN’s millennial Donald Trump supporter looks prety much exactly how you would have expected pic.twitter.com/3Ib61gVZLB

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) November 7, 2016

But while that statement might be true, the photo set off a serious round of comparisons.

The obvious standout, of course, is Draco Malfoy:

cwqyrudxuaageg2

“In other words,” wrote one commenter, “Trump has locked down the Draco Malfoy vote.”

“He looks like he’s thinking hard about how to resolve ‘the Mudblood question,’” chimed in another.

Some saw the Malfoy resemblance, but felt the comparison was lacking something, or someone. Or whatever it is you call a Milo:

milo-714-640x427

“I saw him and thought ‘Dammit they cloned Milo,’” wrote one disappointed internet surfer.

But the comparisons didn’t stop there, from the Mighty Ducks villain:

screen-shot-2014-09-23-at-1-59-42-pm

To a little dose of Max Headroom:

f2fc07378409bfda5cf6563843f5dbf5

And while we don’t quite see it, someone called out A.J. Soprano:

246a1fd25a252172214f1c1c9fa52b76

OK, but we can all agree ha looks strikingly similar to Richie Rich:

cwq2kr0xuaabz-r

And, yeah, there’s definitely some Waldo from The Little Rascals:

cwqyxwcw8aen01l

We never would have guessed this one, but after someone suggested “Magic Earring Ken,” well, yeah, we see it:

cwq7muouoaa1nha

But perhaps the most terrifying comparison comes at the prospect of this little Trumpet pretty convincingly resembling the Nazi youth from Cabaret:

cwrosi4xgagboxh

In summation: GO VOTE.

7 Political Ads Show How Far We Have Come Since George W. Bush Attacked Equality

7 Political Ads Show How Far We Have Come Since George W. Bush Attacked Equality

Billions have been spent this political season, by all accounts the most expensive election in the history of American politics, with outlandishly wealthy Americans competing to put their agenda squarely in the White House, Congress and the states. While queer issues aren’t as front and center as they were in past elections–such as 2008 when George W. Bush exploited marriage equality as a wedge issue–we remain a coveted voter base, for and against–capable of turning close elections. Hillary Clinton has made the most unafraid, pro-gay ads in history, and Democrats across the country have followed suit. This also represented the first election in which Republicans at times tried to claim the equality banner, albeit in often bizarre and ham-fisted ways.

Here are just a few of the most notable political commercials (and empty gestures) aimed at queer constituents and their allies.

1. Frenemy of the People

Donald Trump says he’s “the real friend” of the LGBT community.

Yeah, no.t.co/TWwZKC5ARS

— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) June 17, 2016

In the wake of the Orlando massacre this past June, Trump insisted he was a “friend to the LGBT community.” The Clinton camp called him out by releasing a video reminding the public of his myriad attacks on gays.

Trump responded with his own attack on Hillary’s record:

2. Hillary for marriage equality, same-sex kissing encouraged

Back in 2004, Clinton stated, “I believe marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman.” Fortunately, she woke her ass up and crossed to the right side of history, as demonstrated by last December’s ad vigorously supporting equality.

3. The Adventures of Milo and the Orange

rnc-milo-party

Some gay men, like internet attention whore/peroxide skid mark Milo Yiannopoulos, claim that Trump is the more friendly option. Its difficult to fathom that the same tangerine-hued dumpster fire that pledged to sign the overtly anti-LGBT “First Amendment Defense Act” is in any way good for the gays in any way shape or form. But what does Milo care? Y’know he’s not a US citizen, right?

4. Don’t Tell Mama Trump isn’t Dangerous

Although Trump may have media thirsty morons like Milo fooled, most Americans know better, such as Judy Shepard. As the mother of gay murder victim Matthew Shepard, you can believe her when she says “I’ve seen what can happen as the result of hate” in this new ad urging voters to choose Hillary over her bloviating bigot of an opponent.

5. Home of Beaches, Mountains, and an Extremely Homophobic Governor

watch-north-carolinas-anti-gay-tourism-commercial-video-funny-or-die

Unfortunately, this toxic presidential election wasn’t the only thing poisoning politics this year. Back in March, the state of North Carolina passed the notoriously anti-Trans law HB 2, aka the Bathroom Bill. Funny or Die responded with this deliciously sarcastic tourism video.

6. We’re Even Worse Than North Carolina

A month later, when Mississippi’s Governor Phil Bryant signed the “worst anti-gay ‘religious freedom’ bill in the nation,” Funny or Die repurposed their tourism parody formula to put the state on blast.

7. Last and Possibly Least…

maxresdefault

Not to be outdone, Tennessee upped the ante when it came to homophobic legislation by proposing not one, but two anti-LGBTQ bills. In addition to House Bill 2414, another Bathroom Bill, the state also passed House Bill 1840, which allows private practice counselors to deny mental health services to individuals based on religious beliefs. Funny or Die was once again waiting in the wings with another satirical tourism video.

Its state legislation like these that necessitate Clinton’s vision of a Supreme Court that will “stand up on behalf of the LGBT community.”
