Leading Pick For Secretary Of Health & Human Services Thinks Gay Rights Harm Health

Leading Pick For Secretary Of Health & Human Services Thinks Gay Rights Harm Health

tom-price

“Give Donald Trump a chance before you criticize him” is another way of saying “let him get in a few really solid punches before you even try defending yourself.”

While you’re busy “giving him a chance,” he’s thinking about appointing awful Tom Price to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Price is a doctor — a real medical doctor, God help us — who spreads ignorance and fear like some kind of medieval skull-driller.

According to Price, laws that “promote some homosexual-agenda item… should take into account the tremendous medical health impact and economic impact that promoting such a lifestyle will result in.”

So, this could be the guy in charge of the nation’s medical and social services. A man who believes that treating you with equality is a bad idea because you are sick and diseased and a burden on everyone around you.

He also says: “The consequences of activity that has been seen as outside the norm are real and must be explored completely… [before] moving forward with any social legislation that would alter things.”

Just to be clear — he’s wrong about virtually everything. But being wrong is what Republicans do best. And once he’s in power, you can bet that he’ll gut services and protections for LGBT people — that could mean anything from access to homeless shelters to assistance with adoption, HIV counseling, the ability to see your partner in a hospital, gay couples being kept together when they go into elder housing, and who even knows what.

Now as we’ve learned, it’s the most sanctimonious Republicans who are hiding the most depraved secrets, so do you want to take any guesses as to what terrible shameful brokenness Tom Price is hiding? Whatever it is, a person doesn’t turn into a twisted liar unless they’ve got something real devious in their closet.

Donald Trump Accepted $1.3 Million in Donations that Violated Campaign Finance Laws, FEC Says

Donald Trump Accepted $1.3 Million in Donations that Violated Campaign Finance Laws, FEC Says

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) says Donald Trump accepted 1,100 donations totaling $1.3 million that violated various campaign finance laws.

The Hill reports:

The commission sent Timothy Jost, the Trump campaign’s treasurer, a letter Sunday seeking clarification of its financial filings last month.

The FEC’s message notes two main concerns, the first being whether Trump’s campaign accepted contributions from organizations not properly registered with the commission. Another worry, the letter adds, is whether donors giving to the Republican’s campaign exceeded legal donation limits.

“If any apparently prohibited contribution in question was incompletely or incorrectly disclosed, you should amend your original report with clarifying information,” it states. “In addition, please clarify whether the contribution(s) received from the referenced organization(s) is permissible.

“If any apparently excessive contribution in question was incompletely or incorrectly disclosed, you must amend your original report with the clarifying information.”

More from CNN:

The errors came after Trump made an aggressive shift to digital fundraising in July, based in large part on the stunning success Bernie Sanders had outraising Hillary Clinton at various months in the primaries.
The FEC dinged the Sanders campaign in May for the same problem — alerting them that thousands of donors had exceeded federal campaign finance limit. President Barack Obama has received several such letters as well.

Gays and their relationship dramas – and comedies – rule this week’s home entertainment highlights.

Lazy Eye sees a pair of ex-boyfriends reconnect over a weekend, while Shared Rooms tracks three gay couples that connect during the holiday season. Finally, fans of HBO’s Looking can have a binge watch with Looking: The Complete Series And The Movie.

Scroll down for the details, trailers, and your comments!

Lazy Eye

($24.99 DVD; Breaking Glass Pictures)

Writer/director Tim Kirkman (Loggerheads, Dear Jesse) is back with a drama about a pair of ex-boyfriends, 40-something graphic designer Dean and a fellow he had a super hot yet abruptly ended fling some 15 years ago, Alex. When Alex suddenly reappears, Dean invites him on a getaway out in the Mojave desert. Will their reconnect ignite a more lasting sort of spark? What sorts of secrets and memories also await? Inspired by Kirkman’s own experience reconnecting with an ex, this is a meditative and beautifully shot character piece. Extras include outtakes and a film festival Q&A session.

Shared Rooms

($24.99 DVD; Wolfe)

Three sets of characters in Los Angeles’ Silverlake neighborhood deal with major drama – and lovin’ – over the holidays in the 8th film by prolific gay writer/director Rob Williams. A married couple, Laslo and Cal, with no desire to have kids find themselves unexpectedly playing guardian to a gay teenage nephew whose mom gave him the boot. Meanwhile, a pair of guys who hook up online, Sid and Gray, may have something deeper going on than either realizes, while roommates Julian and Dylan find their arrangement at a sudden crossroads when one comes home early from a business trip… Spoiler: when all of these folks manage to end up at the same party, things will end happy. Extras include outtakes and a commentary.

Looking: The Complete Series And The Movie

($49.99 Blu-ray, $39.99 DVD; HBO)

HBO’s all-to-short-lived San Francisco-set gay series and its climactic movie are now gathered together for a tasty binge watch weekend. Stars Jonathan Groff, Russell Tovey, Murray Bartlett, Raul Castillo and the rest are superb, and so is the hot (and realistic) sex, while writer/director/co-creator Andrew Haigh (Weekend) delivers a naturalistic, relevant and valentine-like tribute to gay life in the Bay Area. Love it or meh it, it’s an LGBT must-see.

MOST FAVORED NATION? Trump’s global business empire is a critical conflict of interest: “At least 111 Trump companies have done business in 18 countries and territories across South America, Asia and the Middle East, a Washington Post analysis of Trump financial filings shows. The business interests range from sprawling, ultraluxury real estate complexes to one-man holding companies and branding deals in Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Panama and other countries, including some where the United States maintains sensitive diplomatic ties.

Donald TrumpPOLL. Trump’s favorability rating grows: “Forty-six percent of voters now have a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of the president-elect. Twelve percent have a somewhat unfavorable opinion and 34 percent have a very unfavorable opinion of him. It’s a dramatic uptick since the election. Trump’s favorability has grown 9 points, 37 percent to 46 percent, compared to a Morning Consult poll right before the election — while his unfavorability has dropped 15 points, from 61 percent to 46 percent.

Over 150 people were injured when 14 bogies of the train derailed. The death toll could rise as some of the injured are said to be in serious condition. Rescue workers continue to comb through the mangled remains of the bogies for possible survivors.”

DRUG-DRIVING. Scientists develop more accurate test for cocaine: “Drug-driving is an increasing problem,” said Melanie Bailey of the University of Surrey and co-author of the research published in the journal Analytical Methods. “We want to try to improve safety on the roads and this is one way to do that because we will be able to monitor a larger number of people without wasting their time by getting false positive results.”

SYRIA. The last hospital in East Aleppo has been destroyed by Russian bombing: “The last operating hospital in east Aleppo has been destroyed by airstrikes, leaving up to 250,000 residents without access to surgery or specialist care, and rebel-held districts at the point of collapse.”
