Trump Says It’s ‘Irrelevant’ If He Supports Gay Marriage Because ‘It Was Settled in the Supreme Court’

In his first interview since winning the 2016 election, Donald Trump spoke with CBS’ 60 Minutes about gay marriage.

Asked by Lesley Stahl whether he supports marriage equality, Trump reportedly said, “It–It’s irrelevant because it was already settled. It’s law. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it’s done.”

Stahl tried to counter with a question about a potential SCOTUS justice that Trump might appoint, a justice who could down the road be instrumental in overturning the Court’s ruling on marriage equality. But Trump was again dismissive: “It’s done. It–you have–these cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They’ve been styled. And-I’m–I’m fine with that.”

Trump’s comments come on the heels of his naming anti-LGBT RNC chair Reince Priebus as White House chief of staff.

Not a good sign for #LGBT people Priebus chosen as chief of staff. Signals Trump in line with @GOP and will push anti-LGBT platform.

On Sunday, Trump also named virulently anti-LGBT former editor of Breitbart News Stephen Bannon as his senior counselor and chief strategist.

Bannon was caught on tape in 2011 using an anti-gay slur.

Around 150,000 people showed up for Orlando Pride on Saturday on the five month anniversary of the Pulse massacre that cost 49 souls their lives.

The event was roundly as deeply emotional for those in attendance. The parade was delayed five weeks because of the threat of Hurricane Matthew.

WFTV reports:

Pulse employees and relatives of the slain served as parade marshals. And the procession also honored police officers, firefighters, paramedics and hospital workers who responded to the shooting.

For many, the event was another step in the healing process for a community that’s still reeling from the terror attack.

“I’m sure, for me, there will be some tears, because it was here,” Melissa Cortez said.

It was Nancy Torres’ first time attending the event. Torres sold Pulse T-shirts at the festival to help support her son, who worked at the club.

“They’re good kids,” she said. “They just have fun. They love each other. It was always a nice place to go.”

Torres’ son and his former co-workers were among those honored on one of the parade’s first floats.

“The Pulse attack was very emotional,” said Leo, who didn’t provide his last name. “It’s kind of like a closure for it, but it will still be a reminder for us for the rest of our lives.”

The Orlando Sentinel adds:

Family members of those who died in the attack walked near the front of the parade, trailing behind Community Grand Marshals: the Orlando Police Department and Chief John Mina; the Orlando Fire Department; Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando Commissioner Patty Sheehan; and the Pulse Float with employees and family members.

Each carried photos of their loved one or waved a white fabric angel overheard that honored the deceased. Names of the 49 were memorialized in bright marker, eliciting thunderous applause and tears from parade onlookers.

Other groups to walk ranged from large corporations and smaller businesses to high school gay-straight alliance organizations and LGBTQ-friendly service groups.

Sandwiched in the middle of fanciful costumes and bejeweled bustiers were three groups that stood out for a different reason: their cry for stronger gun laws to ensure another Pulse-like attack doesn’t happen.

Much of the pride celebration was documented on social media.

The Most Colorful Parade got off to an emotional start with Orlando Police leading the procession.

The Orlando Sentinel reports:

The fire started 5 to 10 minutes into the 25 minute fireworks display. Since no one was on board the barge, one of three shooting off fireworks in the middle of the lake, officials with the event allowed the show to continue.

Firefighters used a small boat to bring in the scorched barge. Remnants of firework tubes were still partially ablaze. A seven-member crew started hosing it down.

“We decided there wasn’t any threat to the crowd and let the display go on as planned,” said Jeff Prystajko, a spokesman for the event.

Great News! Study Finds Gay Couples Have Happier, Healthier Sex Lives!

Great News! Study Finds Gay Couples Have Happier, Healthier Sex Lives!

hairy-gay-men-in-bed

Election news still got you down? Here’s something that may help restore your faith in life. Or at least your faith in your sex life.

According to a study from the University of Toronto, same-sex couples have better, happier, healthier sex lives.

1,900 individuals of both gay and straight couples participated in the study, which was led by Jessica Maxwell, a PhD candidate in the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts & Science.

“Disagreements in the sexual domain are somewhat inevitable over time,” Maxwell said. “Your sex life is like a garden, and it needs to be watered and nurtured to maintain it.”

In her research, Maxwell found that gay couples scored an average of 6.02 on their openness to work on sex in a relationship, compared to just 5.68 straight couples.

When it came to “sexual destiny,” which is essentially finding one person to have boring vanilla monogamous sex with for the rest of your life, straight couples were more likely to fall into the pattern, with a score of 3.17, compared to 2.69 for gay couples.

“The fact that same-sex couples are higher in sexual growth beliefs does suggest they have a healthier view of sexual relationships which should in turn foster greater relationship and sexual satisfaction over time,” Maxwell says.

“Gay and lesbians have higher levels of sexual growth beliefs than heterosexuals, and have lower levels of sexual destiny beliefs than heterosexuals,” Maxwell concluded. “This is encouraging because those with higher sexual growth beliefs had the best outcomes in our studies!”

Ultimately, Maxwell says she hopes her study show that problems in the bedroom are totally normal in relationships, and it doesn’t necessarily mean the relationship is doomed.
