Democrat Maggie Hassan Declares Victory Over Incumbent NH Senator Kelly Ayotte

Democratic candidate Maggie Hassan has claimed victory in a narrow win over Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire.

The win would be one of two pick-ups for Democrats in the Senate. Republicans will still control that chamber for the next two years.

The New Hampshire Union Leader reports:

During a hastily-called press conference outside the State House, Hassan said she’s ahead now by enough votes to survive returns from the few outstanding towns that are left.

“I am proud to stand here as the next United States senator from New Hampshire,” Hassan said to cheers from a large group of supporters led by Congresswoman Annie Kuster and Hassan’s husband, Tom.

The two-term governor said she hadn’t spoken with Ayotte.

It’s clear we have maintained the lead in and have won this race,” Hassan said.

Sen. Ayotte issued a brief statement after Hassan’s event but did not concede and deferred to Secretary of State Bill Gardner’s final results.

More from CBS:

With such a slim margin, Ayotte announced she’s still in the race.

“This has been a closely contested race from the beginning and we look forward to results being announced by the Secretary of State, and ensuring that every vote is counted in this race that has received an historic level of interest,” spokeswoman Liz Johnson said in a statement.

Previously, Ayotte flip-flopped on whether she considered Donald Trump a role model for our kids.

It is a very dark day for America, especially for LGBTQ people. The country has elected a racist misogynist for President and a proud homophobe for VP. We’re in for a bumpy ride, folks.

But as discouraging as as last night’s election results might be, it’s not the end of the world. We promise. Things will be OK. As Hillary just said in her concession speech, “There are more seasons to come!”

Michele Bachmann Says Race Broke for Trump When She Began Praying Last Night: WATCH

Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann last night pointed to a graph produced by the New York Times that shows when the race began breaking for Donald Trump and said it was because, at that moment, at 8:30 pm, she and her followers began praying.

Said Bachmann”

“We have a prayer room here. We had people all across the United States joining with our prayer room here in Dallas in prayer, and look what happened. This was the moment. This was the moment when the whole race broke, when prayer began, when the church came out and then we see a 30-point swing here, a 30-point swing here and now we see the swing to a 95 percent chance of winning Trump, a five percent chance of winning Clinton. It’s phenomenal!”

Added Bachmann:

“This graphic produced by the New York Times should tell believers and pastors the power of prayer, the power of action.  Already we know that the glory goes to the God Almighty, the God of the Universe, the Sovereign Lord. He is the one who did this for us. He did, because His people got on their knees and cried out to Holy God and said, ‘We can’t go down this road any more, Father, we ask you for your mercy.’ And this is the proof positive of what the Lord did. The Lord did this!”

Bachmann advised Donald Trump on foreign policy and issues of concern to Christian conservatives during the campaign, and served as part of his Evangelical Executive Advisory Board. Surely, she’s hoping for a job in a Trump administration.

Hillary Clinton will deliver remarks to staff and supporters at 10:30 am ET at the New Yorker Hotel in New York City, according to her campaign.

Clinton, who beat Donald Trump in the popular vote, conceded to her opponent  last night by phone after reaching just 218 electoral votes to his 279.

CNN reports: “Much of the seating at Clinton’s remarks will be for staff and aides and the campaign is treating it as a farewell to the people who have spent the better part of two years working on her behalf, per an aide.”

Donald Trump Wins Presidency in Shocking Upset: Watch His Speech to Supporters

Donald Trump is now the president-elect of the United States.

If you’re having a hard time processing this sentence as you wake up this Wednesday morning, you are not alone. The Republican Party has retained control of the Senate.

In a jaw-dropping run of the electoral map, Trump defied nearly every forecast put forth by the major media to win 279 electoral votes, defeating Hillary Clinton who reached just 218.

Hillary Clinton did not speak last night.

Trump looked away from the trail of racism, misogyny, xenophobia, lies, and insults that formed the basis of his argument to voters over the past year as he spoke to supporters in New York last night:

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past – of which there are a few people – I am reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.”
