Hillary Clinton closing message

Hillary Clinton released a two-minute video set to air on Monday night on major networks during prime time. In the clip, Clinton speaks directly to voters asking them if they want a “dark and divisive” America or a “hopeful and inclusive” one.

Mediaite reports:

“The spot will air during NBC’s reality singing competition The Voice, and the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait, starring Kevin James. The ad is not scheduled to air during ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Donald Trump‘s own two-minute closing ad aired across multiple networks throughout the day during NFL games on Sunday. Trump’s ad will also be seen on The Voice, according to CNN’s Brian Stelter.”

CNN’s “Millennial Trump Voter” Reminds People Of Someone, But Who?

CNN’s “Millennial Trump Voter” Reminds People Of Someone, But Who?

As the election looms mere hours in our collective future, ideological debate has reached something of a stalemate — if you don’t know where you stand on the most pressing issues of the day, you truly have been living under a rock.

But while the room for political discourse may have reached a temporary ceasefire until the votes are counted and the future secured, there is still one item of extreme import up for debate: Who, exactly, does CNN’s “Millennial Trump voter” remind you of?

Alex Griswold, a reporter for Mediaite, sparked the conversation with a Tweet this morning:

CNN’s millennial Donald Trump supporter looks prety much exactly how you would have expected pic.twitter.com/3Ib61gVZLB

— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) November 7, 2016

But while that statement might be true, the photo set off a serious round of comparisons.

The obvious standout, of course, is Draco Malfoy:

“In other words,” wrote one commenter, “Trump has locked down the Draco Malfoy vote.”

“He looks like he’s thinking hard about how to resolve ‘the Mudblood question,’” chimed in another.

Some saw the Malfoy resemblance, but felt the comparison was lacking something, or someone. Or whatever it is you call a Milo:

milo-714-640x427

“I saw him and thought ‘Dammit they cloned Milo,’” wrote one disappointed internet surfer.

But the comparisons didn’t stop there, from the Mighty Ducks villain:

To a little dose of Max Headroom:

And while we don’t quite see it, someone called out A.J. Soprano:

OK, but we can all agree ha looks strikingly similar to Richie Rich:

And, yeah, there’s definitely some Waldo from The Little Rascals:

cwqyxwcw8aen01l

We never would have guessed this one, but after someone suggested “Magic Earring Ken,” well, yeah, we see it:

cwq7muouoaa1nha

But perhaps the most terrifying comparison comes at the prospect of this little Trumpet pretty convincingly resembling the Nazi youth from Cabaret:

In summation: GO VOTE.

It’s not just politics that make strange bedfellows; potlucks do too. The world’s least likely co-hosts come together on Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party tonight at 10 p.m. Eastern on VH1.

I think we can all agree, regardless of the results, this year’s election night coverage warrants a few four-letter words. Lucky for us, Colbert is on the premium-cable case. Tune in to Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night — Democracy’s Series Finale 11 p.m. Eastern on Showtime.

The ladies of The View are already unhinged enough, but what happens when you add cocktails to the mix? Will they scream? Will they break out in fisticuffs? Will Joy Behar take her top off? Find out on The View Live Election Special 9 p.m. Eastern Tuesday on Lifetime.

We’re not done ragging on Finding Prince Charming just yet. All the dead-eyed Instagram thirst-traps are back to reminisce about the first season Thursday for a special reunion, 9 p.m. Eastern on Logo.

7 Political Ads Show How Far We Have Come Since George W. Bush Attacked Equality

7 Political Ads Show How Far We Have Come Since George W. Bush Attacked Equality

Billions have been spent this political season, by all accounts the most expensive election in the history of American politics, with outlandishly wealthy Americans competing to put their agenda squarely in the White House, Congress and the states. While queer issues aren’t as front and center as they were in past elections–such as 2008 when George W. Bush exploited marriage equality as a wedge issue–we remain a coveted voter base, for and against–capable of turning close elections. Hillary Clinton has made the most unafraid, pro-gay ads in history, and Democrats across the country have followed suit. This also represented the first election in which Republicans at times tried to claim the equality banner, albeit in often bizarre and ham-fisted ways.

Here are just a few of the most notable political commercials (and empty gestures) aimed at queer constituents and their allies.

1. Frenemy of the People

Donald Trump says he’s “the real friend” of the LGBT community.

Yeah, no.t.co/TWwZKC5ARS

— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) June 17, 2016

In the wake of the Orlando massacre this past June, Trump insisted he was a “friend to the LGBT community.” The Clinton camp called him out by releasing a video reminding the public of his myriad attacks on gays.

Trump responded with his own attack on Hillary’s record:

2. Hillary for marriage equality, same-sex kissing encouraged

Back in 2004, Clinton stated, “I believe marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman.” Fortunately, she woke her ass up and crossed to the right side of history, as demonstrated by last December’s ad vigorously supporting equality.

3. The Adventures of Milo and the Orange

rnc-milo-party

Some gay men, like internet attention whore/peroxide skid mark Milo Yiannopoulos, claim that Trump is the more friendly option. Its difficult to fathom that the same tangerine-hued dumpster fire that pledged to sign the overtly anti-LGBT “First Amendment Defense Act” is in any way good for the gays in any way shape or form. But what does Milo care? Y’know he’s not a US citizen, right?

4. Don’t Tell Mama Trump isn’t Dangerous

Although Trump may have media thirsty morons like Milo fooled, most Americans know better, such as Judy Shepard. As the mother of gay murder victim Matthew Shepard, you can believe her when she says “I’ve seen what can happen as the result of hate” in this new ad urging voters to choose Hillary over her bloviating bigot of an opponent.

5. Home of Beaches, Mountains, and an Extremely Homophobic Governor

watch-north-carolinas-anti-gay-tourism-commercial-video-funny-or-die

Unfortunately, this toxic presidential election wasn’t the only thing poisoning politics this year. Back in March, the state of North Carolina passed the notoriously anti-Trans law HB 2, aka the Bathroom Bill. Funny or Die responded with this deliciously sarcastic tourism video.

6. We’re Even Worse Than North Carolina

A month later, when Mississippi’s Governor Phil Bryant signed the “worst anti-gay ‘religious freedom’ bill in the nation,” Funny or Die repurposed their tourism parody formula to put the state on blast.

7. Last and Possibly Least…

maxresdefault

Not to be outdone, Tennessee upped the ante when it came to homophobic legislation by proposing not one, but two anti-LGBTQ bills. In addition to House Bill 2414, another Bathroom Bill, the state also passed House Bill 1840, which allows private practice counselors to deny mental health services to individuals based on religious beliefs. Funny or Die was once again waiting in the wings with another satirical tourism video.

Its state legislation like these that necessitate Clinton’s vision of a Supreme Court that will “stand up on behalf of the LGBT community.”

Rami Malek Freddie Mercury

Bohemian Rhapsody, a long-in-development biopic about the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, is finally seeing some real movement with news that Mr Robot star Rami Malek will play Mercury and Bryan Singer is in talks to direct.

Deadline reports:

Fox and New Regency have stepped up for the joint project in the latest maneuver for a movie that has been in development with King for eight years. The most recent script, which focuses on the band and its iconic lead singer, is from The Theory of Everything scribe Anthony McCarten. King and Jim Beach are producers, and Denis O’Sullivan is exec producer. Original Queen bandmembers Brian May and Roger Taylor will serve as music producers. It’s being eyed to shoot early next year.

Sacha Baron Cohen was originally attached to star as Mercury and when that fell through Ben Whishaw got on board. Now the project is reportedly on a fast track at 20th Century Fox and New Regency.

Gov. Pat McCrory is in the political fight for his life as election day looms. He’s currently neck and neck with challenger Roy Cooper in the race for the North Carolina governorship and his odds of winning aren’t favorable.

McCrory became public enemy #1 in March when he signed House Bill 2, a.k.a. the “bathroom bill,” that policed what restrooms trans people were legally allowed to use. Cooper has been a vocal opponent of HB2 since it was first introduced.

Now, a lesser known North Carolina politician is doing his part to see homophobic McCrory doesn’t win a second term as governor and inflect even more damage on the state’s LGBTQ citizens.

Cecil Brockman is a 32-year-old state Representative in North Carolina. He was recently dining with his partner, along with openly gay state Representative Chris Sgro, at a restaurant when he says a man approached their table.

According to local newspaper The News & RecordBrockman was sporting an anti-HB2 button on his lapel. The man, who was clearly drunk, asked if he was gay then “launched into a homophobic and obscene tirade, making such a scene that the management made him leave.”

The “ugly incident” left Brockman rattled. Afterwards, he decided it was time for him to come out publicly as bisexual.

“Discriminating against folks in the LGBT community has become legal,” he told the newspaper. “You should be able to be who you are and love who you are and not be afraid to go out and feel like someone will harass you.”

He added, “I always felt that I tried to stick up for the LGBT community, even when I wasn’t ‘out’. I want to do more of my part, to be stronger and admit to the world that I’m actually a member of this community as well.”

Brockman hopes that by coming out publicly, it will send a positive message to LGBTQ youth.

“I really want young people to know that you can be a member of the LGBT community, and it’s OK,” Brockman said. “You can run for public office and serve honorably. You don’t have to let anyone put you in a box.”

And as for North Carolina voters, he has a message for them as well. He hopes they will consider the impact HB2 has had on LGBTQ people and their families when selecting their next governor on Tuesday.

“I want people to recognize that members of the LGBT community are your sons and your daughters, your aunts and uncles,” Brockman said. “You can’t turn away from those members of the community. It’s important for me as a black person to stand up for the black community, as well as stand up for the LGBT community. I’m a part of both communities, and I want to push my community to be more tolerant and accepting.”

It has become clear in recent days that Donald Trump’s Twitter account has been wrested from the candidate by his aides after weeks of using it to thrash his enemies.

At a rally in Florida on Sunday, Obama used it as an opportunity to mock the screaming carrot demon (as Samantha Bee might call him).

“If somebody can’t handle a Twitter account, they can’t handle the nuclear codes. If somebody starts tweeting at 3 in the morning cause SNL made fun of you, then you can’t handle the nuclear codes.”
