A Brief History Of Antigay Politicians Caught Doing Very Gay Things In Public Restrooms
It’s no secret that Republicans have issues with many things, but there are two things in particular that really seem to keep them up at night: Gay people and public restrooms.
The official Republican platform, adopted earlier this year, defines marriage as “between one man and one woman” and seeks to police which restrooms trans people use in an effort to protect women and children from sexual predators.

Ironically, an alarming number of Republican lawmakers have been caught engaging in gay sex acts in public restrooms over the years. The most recent appears to be Mike Yenni from Louisiana, who was just outed for allegedly sexting with a 17-year-old Catholic school boy then meeting up with him in a mall bathroom for a brief make out sesh.
Just to be clear, we’re not judging these guys for getting frisky in the bathroom. But we’d be remiss not to point out the hypocrisy in their actions.
Scroll down for five Republican lawmakers who’ve been caught acting gay in the bathroom…
Mike Yenni
The 40-year-old “happily married father of one” and local Republican politician from Louisiana was just accused of sexting with a 17-year-old Catholic school boy who he met at a luncheon for graduating seniors in 2015. According to the teen, Yenni and the teen arranged a meeting in a mall bathroom where the lawmaker gifted him a pair of $75 designer underwear then asked him to send him pictures of himself modeling them. Then they made out for a while.
Bob Allen
The antigay Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives was arrested in 2007 after offering to pay an undercover cop $20 for a blowie in a park bathroom. Allen maintained his innocence, insisting that he thought the undercover officer was trying to rob him, and that he only offered to pay to perform the sex act on him because he felt “intimidated” by his large muscles.
Roberto Arango
The married Republican politician who served in the Senate of Puerto Rico made headlines in 2011 after a series of his very revealing bathroom selfies emerged on Grindr. At first, Arango, who opposed same-sex marriage, tried saying he had taken the x-rated pictures to document his weight loss. Then he tried suggesting a rival had hacked into his computer and leaked them as an act of political revenge. Then he finally admitted that, yeah, OK, he had taken them to share with guys on Grindr and, yeah, OK, he was also gay.
Jon Hinson
Here’s one from the history books. In 1981, the Republican congressman from the deep red state of Mississippi was arrested for engaging in oral sex with a young male clerk in the men’s restroom of the House of Representatives. Hinson, who had previously been married to a woman, claimed the incident was the result of “personal turmoil” he was suffering. Shortly thereafter, he resigned from Congress and came out as gay. He devoted the rest of his life to advocating for LGBTQ rights before his death in 1995.
Larry Craig
And then there was Republican Senator Larry Craig of Idaho. In 2007, he was arrested for soliciting an undercover cop for sex in an airport bathroom. After initially confessing to the act, Craig later walked back his statement by famously claiming that he sat “wide stance” when on the toilet and that the officer must have misinterpreted his body language. Not surprisingly, the excuse didn’t hold up in court.
Cut to 2014 when the Federal Election Commission filed a lawsuit against Craig after discovering he had illegally used campaign funds to pay his attorneys during the whole bathroom lawsuit. He was ordered to pay the Treasury $242,535 out of his own pocket. Craig appealed, but in 2016, the U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed the judgment, finally bringing the scandal to a close, nearly a decade after the fact.
To this day, Craig insists he has a “wide stance.”
“Gay Country Boys” Give A Holler From Rural Life
What exactly is a country boy?
According to Urban Dictionary, he is “a guy born and raised in the country. (Usually the American South.) A true country boy has rather short hair, and no piercings. They dress in nice, clean-looking clothes, and only wear ripped jeans to work in.”
The definition goes on to describe country boys as “strong, hard-working, and very masculine. Chances are, he drives a truck. In a relationship, a country boy is usually an old-fashioned gentleman.”
But can they be gay?
A recent Reddit thread titled Gay country boys? seeks to answer this question:
Any of you guys ever met a gay country boy, farm boy, or the redneck type? Just wondering. I’m a country boy and I personally don’t know anyone that is gay. Although I’ve wondered about a few guys before.
Well, it turns out, there are quite a few gay country boys living our in rural America.
“Red neck farm boy here,” one guy writes. “Born and raised in the middle of nowhere. So, yup, we exist.”
“Gay country boy checking in from Iowa,” another guy says. “Grew up on a hog farm, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, mudding. … I’ll always be a country boy at heart.”
“I spent the first eighteen years of my life living and working on a family ranch in east Texas,” a third guy writes. “Got my degree in Agricultural Science, and I’m employed in the livestock industry. I’ve just contentedly resigned myself to the fact that it’s my lot in life to work with cattle.”
“I live in Oklahoma, and three quarters of the Grindr profiles here are for guys with pickup trucks looking for someone to go hunting/fishing/mudding with,” a fourth one says.
Then there are those who aren’t country boys themselves but who are attracted to them.
“I always think country gay boys are hot,” one guy writes. “Also, Brokeback Mountain, right? That’s very country.”
“My BF is a country boy,” another man says. “He grew up in the bible belt of Alabama. He moved to Florida 3 years ago. Funnily enough, I met him outside of a 7/11 where he was causing a ton of trouble with his fellow country boy friends.”
“I’d love to meet some,” a third guy writes. “I am exhausted by the one-upping connoisseur ethos I’ve been dealing with in city-gays. I draw the line at defending my choice of take-out sushi. I am assuming that country boy gays have more productive/meaningful things to do besides instagramming high tea.”
Of course, there had to be one killjoy who couldn’t help but keep it real:
“People who have a fascination with cowboys would probably be quickly disabused of that if they had any idea what cattle can smell like, or what you can smell like after spending a full day working with them.”

SNL Takes on the Vulgar Trump Tapes: WATCH
Saturday Night Live opened its show last night by diving right in to the 2005 Trump tapes and the Republican nominee’s vulgar brags about assaulting women. Alec Baldwin returned as Trump who was asked what he would say to women voters offended by the “grab them by the pussy” remarks.
Said Baldwin’s Trump:
“I would say this, listen women, if you give me a chance I promise I can do a whole lot more than just grab it. I can also bop it, twist it, and pull it.”
The sketch then cut to Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) for her reaction to the release of the tapes.

Rudy Giuliani Floats New Trump Plan: Portray Hillary as ‘Attacker’ of Women Abused by Bill
Rudy Giuliani, as the only surrogate willing to step out and defend Trump since the emergence of the tape on Friday night in which he brags about sexually assaulting women, appeared on several morning talk shows Sunday.
Giuliani told Chuck Todd on Meet the Press that there’s no way Trump won’t show up to the debate, and there’s no way he’ll drop out of the race.
The interview then quickly got into a discussion of the tapes.
It’s not right to say it whether you’re a politician or you’re not,” said Giuliani, after excusing Trump because he made the remarks when he wasn’t running for president.
“He’s bragging about making unwanted sexual advances,” says Todd. “You’re saying that the words are wrong. How about the actions?”
Replied Giuliani: “Well, the actions would be even worse if they were actions. Talk and action are two different things.”
He then added:
“I’m not implying it was made up. I said we’re talking about things that he was talking about. I don’t know how much he was exaggerating; I don’t know how much is true. I certainly don’t know the details of it. But I do know that this is unfortunately the kind of talk that goes on among a lot of people and they shouldn’t talk about this. This is wrong. He realizes that. He understands it now.”
Giuliani ended the interview by previewing something he thought Trump might bring up at tonight’s debate – Hillary Clinton’s role as “the attacker” of women raped and sexually abused by Bill Clinton.
Said Giuliani
“I do believe there’s a possibility he’ll talk about Hillary Clinton’s, uh, situation – if it gets to that. I don’t think he prefers to do that, but I think he will.”
When asked to clarify what “situation” he was referring to, Giuliani added:
“What I’m talking about are the things that she has said and that have been reported in various books and magazines and other places about the women that bill Clinton raped, sexually abused and attacked. Not Bill Clinton’s role – but her role as the attacker.”
Watch the Meet the Press segment:
The “Hillary as attacker” line of attack is one that Trump previewed himself in his “apology” video on Saturday morning, saying, “Bill Clinton has actually abused women and Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims. We will discuss this more in the coming days.”
Giuliani also tried to play Trump’s remarks off as “exaggeration” on This Week with George Stephanopoulos:

And on CNN’s State of the Union, Giuliani again floated the idea of “gosh almighty there were plenty of things…particularly Hillary Clinton attacking the women who Bill Clinton sexually assaulted, sexually abused, and she was the leader of the attack against them…”
In response to Giuliani @Jaketapper: “I have never said that. I have never done that. I am happy to throw a stone.” t.co/wmbrlSRMtR

Warwick Rowers Unveil, “Golden Girls” Puppet Show, Teenage Jeffrey Dahmer
The Warwick Rowers know how to make you keep your appointments — because you’ll be staring at this 2017 calendar every five minutes. Unblinking. Yes, the guy all the way to the lower left did just wink at you.
The Golden Girls are heading to an Off-Broadway theater near you, but this time as slightly terrifying puppets. How will they be able to eat all the cheesecake with those teeny tiny little fingers?
Hungry? Fresh-faced star Ross Lynch is stepping into gay cannibal-killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s blood-splattered shoes in upcoming film My Friend Dahmer, based on the novel by Nerf Backderf. People are wigging about the uncanny likeness:
Rosie O’Donnell is trying to thwart Donald Trump with the one thing no one’s tried yet: Poetry. (Sample line: “this is the first time i have been out / out of bed really – to be honest / since the debate / i have been sleeping a lot / depression clings to me.”)

All Your Favorite Iconic Queer Trailblazers Illustrated
In 2014, artist Michele Rosenthal embarked on a project not knowing what the final outcome would be.
“I began creating portraits of some of my favorite historical queer people, writing a sentence or two about each and sharing them on Tumblr,” she explains on her website. “At first I only had a handful of people in mind, but the names quickly multiplied.”

As she got deeper and deeper into the project, the small “handful” of portraits grew to 20, then 40, then 60. And those short bios of the subjects became several meticulously-researched paragraphs.
“Two years later, I took my first 60 illustrations and created queerportraits.com, a permanent home for the project,” Rosenthal explains. “It’s designed to be a fun and accessible entry point to LGBTQ history.”

Many of the people Rosenthal features are popular figures within LGBTQ history. Others are lesser known, but no less influential.
“This project has definitely been a labor of love,” she tells Queerty in an email. “There are 60 portraits and bios on the website so far, and I’m constantly adding more.”
