Davey Wavey Met a Gay Mermaid – WATCH

gay merman

Davey Wavey recently got to meet a mermaid–but not just any mermaid, a gay mermaid.

Blix — aka Eric when he’s walking around on those whadda ya call ’em? Oh, feet — talked with Davey about his experience being a mer-person. Identifying as a gay mermaid, Blix told Davey, “I eat, sleep, breathe and s— mermaids. My family knew I was a mermaid for a very long time.”

Being a mer-person taught Blix to “be free”, he says, and “not to care what anyone thinks. Be like the ocean, just be free, and follow your own current.”

Blix also says he has experienced racist backlash when he tells people he sees himself as a mermaid. Pointing out that depictions of black mermaids are virtually non-existent, Blix notes, “Every mermaid you see has got blonde hair and blue eyes, I’ve even had kids tell me, ‘My friends say I can’t be a mermaid because I’m black’, and I’m like, ‘No babydoll, that should make you want to be one!’”

Blix’s godmother has been hugely supportive of him and makes tails for him out of silicone using clay molds.

“People thought I was crazy when I started making these. I lost a lot of friends actually,” she explains. However, seeing the happiness they give her godson inspires her to keep making them.

Watch as Davey tries on a tail of his own and goes for a swim with Blix, below.

Lesbian Couple Tim Kaine Invited to VP Debate ‘Disappointed’ by Lack of Attention on LGBT Issues

tim kaine lgbt

The lesbian couple that Tim Kaine invited to last night’s VP debate say they are “disappointed” that LGBT issues weren’t raised.

While Kaine did mention LGBT persecution in Russia during a discussion about Vladimir Putin, neither the moderator nor Kaine brought up Mike Pence’s disastrous record on LGBT rights.

RELATED: Here’s a Recap of Mike Pence’s Attacks on LGBT Rights – READ

Carol Schall and Mary Towny attended the debate with their daughter Emily and told The Advocate that there is “no doubt” about which ticket is better for LGBT citizens:

“To my mind, there’s no doubt which ticket is going to advance the rights and concerns of LGBT Americans, and that’s the Clinton-Kaine ticket,” said Schall in a phone interview. “Trump and Pence have promised to nominate and elect justices of the Supreme Court that would overturn Obergefell. They’ve promised to sign resolutions that would lead to a non-inclusive army that denies LGBT citizens the right to serve their country.”

Of the significance of being invited to the event, Schall said,

“It’s easy to demonize the other. It’s easy for Mike Pence to sign a bill, as he did with RFRA, when there are no LGBT citizens standing in front of him. He can turn us into an ugly green monster. With us sitting in the audience, he would have to look in our eye and say which rights he thought we do not deserve by virtue of who we are.”

“When you look bigotry in the eye and you’re not afraid to call it out for what it is, it fades very quickly.”

It’s recently come to Chloe’s attention that she has created the perfect haunted house to scare you right in your spook spot.

For instance, the first room of Chloe’s house of horrors contains two truly terrifying prospects: Alex Pettyfer and identity theft.

From there, you will be chased down a hall by Annie Potts dressed as a chef, strapped into a Barcelona chair and forced to watch The English Patient--the definition of terror. Right, Elaine?

Should you make it out of that experience alive you will then be confronted by a fully realized Nordstrom Rack.

You can find the address of Chloe’s haunted house written on an egg at your local grocer.

Congressman Don Beyer Visits HRC’s Equality Votes Phone Bank

Congressman Don Beyer Visits HRC’s Equality Votes Phone Bank

Post submitted by Joey McIntosh, Equality Votes Organizer, Washington, D.C. Area

Ahead of the vice presidential debate yesterday, Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA) stopped by HRC’s phone bank in its Washington, D.C., headquarters.

Congressman Beyer, a longtime supporter of LGBTQ equality, inspired the volunteers by highlighting the importance of this election and what is at stake for the LGBTQ community in November. Congressman Beyer, as well as presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Senator Tim Kaine, are staunch advocates of the Equality Act and marriage equality, and oppose laws like North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2.

HRC launched its #turnOUT the vote campaign earlier this year and is hosting phone banks across the America to mobilize voters to Vote Equality in 2016. HRC will be calling voters in key swing states to encourage them to support candidates who fully support LGBTQ equality up and down the ballot.

HRC is currently calling voters encouraging them to register to vote, and to vote early where it is possible. And it’s easy – just go to hrc.org/vote to register to vote, check your voter registration status, or update your status.

HRC wants to keep you informed leading up to November. Take the pledge to support pro-LGBTQ candidates and receive important election updates from us and to help #turnOUT the vote.

HRC Staff and Volunteers Attend Michelle Obama Rally for Hillary Clinton in Charlotte

HRC Staff and Volunteers Attend Michelle Obama Rally for Hillary Clinton in Charlotte

Yesterday, several HRC staff, along with several local HRC Charlotte volunteers and leaders, had the opportunity to attend the Hillary Clinton rally featuring First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama.

As a huge crowd formed in the Charlotte Convention Center, we were excited to see several local elected officials like openly LGBTQ Charlotte City Council Members LaWana Mayfield and Al Austin as well as Charlotte NAACP President Corine Mack.

U.S. Congresswoman Alma Adams pumped up the crowd and Democratic Candidate for Governor, Roy Cooper, introduced the First Lady. HRC has endorsed both Adams and Cooper and we are working to get out the vote for pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot in North Carolina.

Just weeks before early voting, Mrs. Obama reminded the crowd how every vote counts in this election, particularly in North Carolina.

“In 2008, Barack won North Carolina by 14,000 votes, about 2 votes per precinct. Then he in 2012 he lost the state by about 17 votes per precinct,” she said. ““Elections aren’t just about coming to rallies and posting selfies, it’s about getting to work.”

It was a stark reminder to anyone considering staying home on election day that the future of LGBTQ equality could be decided by just two votes at your polling location.

Breanna Diaz, HRC’s Legislative Counsel who came down from Washington, D.C., for the week to help mobilize HRC members and supporters in the North Carolina joined me at the rally.

”The importance of this election for North Carolina, the nation, and for the LGBTQ community cannot be stressed enough.” she said. “At stake is a pro-equality Supreme Court, pro-equality executive administration, and pro-equality legislation like the Equality Act as well as locally, the repeal of HB2. It is essential that we #turnOUT the pro-equality vote this election by volunteering for endorsed candidates and showing up at the polls this November.”

“I know I’m not alone in feeling that this has been a long campaign season,” HRC Board of Directors and Charlotte resident, Scott Bishop said. “And yes, I am ready for the election to be over, but I am now inspired to ‘roll up my sleeves’ and make sure this is not a missed opportunity.  The stakes are too high!”

If you live in Charlotte or the Triangle area of North Carolina, join HRC’s work to turn out pro-equality voters. Click here to sign-up to volunteer at our Charlotte or Raleigh offices.

This November, HRC is working to #turnOUT the vote across the country, including the growing and highly engaged LGBTQ community. Today, there are an estimated 331,412 LGBTQ adults living in North Carolina — a substantial population given that the state was won in the last three presidential elections by an average of 180,500 votes. The LGBTQ voting bloc in North Carolina will play a pivotal role in the presidential, gubernatorial and other down ballot races. If you have questions about HRC’s work in North Carolina to #turnOUT voters or would like to join us, please contact HRC Associate Regional Field Director at [email protected].

Every Vote Counts – Join Us to Help Get Out the Vote (Week of Oct. 3)

Every Vote Counts – Join Us to Help Get Out the Vote (Week of Oct. 3)

Every day between now and Election Day on November 8, HRC members and supporters will be coming together to get out the vote at phone banking events across the country. Each time these volunteers pick up the phone, they are working to guarantee that pro-LGBTQ equality voters will make their voices heard at the ballot box just 33 days from now.

If you’ve been wondering how you can have an impact on the election – aside from casting your own vote on Election Day – this is your opportunity. Join us and fellow volunteers at an upcoming phone banking event!

In addition to important voter outreach, the phone banks also provide an opportunity to meet other like-minded volunteers in your area. And you never know who is going to drop by! Just this week, Congressman Don Beyer stopped by the D.C. office to thank volunteers who were hard at work, and to emphasize the importance of turning out the vote.

Every week from now until Election Day, we will post an updated list of scheduled phone banks. Be sure to check out HRC’s Blog for these and other volunteer opportunities across the country. Click here to volunteer or see below for information on how to reach out directly to an organizer in your community.

Please join us at this critical moment in our history. Let’s seize the opportunity to build on the momentum for full LGBTQ equality that we’ve seen over the past eight years, and make sure we don’t allow anti-equality forces to undermine our historic progress..

Ellen Sells Clothes Off Model, Complete With “Hint Of Raul’s Musk”

Ellen Sells Clothes Off Model, Complete With “Hint Of Raul’s Musk”

screen-shot-2016-10-05-at-10-26-31-am

What exactly even is Ellen these days? Yes, of course, she’s a talk show host. But apparently she’s also getting into the apparel business.

“The trend this year is see now, buy now, which means you could go to a show, and everything that you like at the show, you can buy right away,” she said. “And I thought well why aren’t we doing this with the Ellen shop?”

And with that, out comes a model named Raul who immediately sells a hat to a lady in the audience. Then he unzips his hoodie for a guy in the audience with a pink shirt who then gives it to a lady sitting next to him. (It’s a pretty lady-heavy audience.)

Then someone buys his shirt. “Still has a hint of Raul’s musk on it,” says Ellen as the woman sniffs it.

Then off come the pants, to excited screams, and he’s standing there in his underwear. Ellen looks delighted, and then offers the underwear to the audience. A lady in the back stands up to make the purchase, and he looks like he’s about to get naked — and then oh no, commercial! Oh well, Raul can be completely nude in our imaginations.
