Man Seriously Regrets Coming Out After Family Is Aggressively Supportive

sub-buzz-17667-1467711516-6

When he came out to his progressive family at the family barbecue, he didn’t want no trouble. Just a pat on the back and the relief of knowing he could “move on with their support.” But no such luck.

That close, ever-smiling, ever-prying family support didn’t stop after the obligatory “We’re so proud” and “It’s okay to be gay.” Now, “all they talk about is how I’m gay. Nothing else I do matters.”

Such is the (thoroughly modern) problem facing Reddit user ifeelcursed. Since he came out, his cousin has been asking “weird questions,” like if he’s “ever thought of wearing lipstick.” Every aunt, uncle, and godmother is bending over backwards to set him up with available men.

Perhaps most uncomfortably:

My father [64M] even suggested that I wasn’t really interested in mountain biking (I’ve been biking since I was eight and it is a favorite hobby of mine) and didn’t need to “fake it” anymore now that I wasn’t in the closet.”

Female friends are galloping over to invite him out to shopping and random fashion events, even though he hates both and they’ve known that for years. Then, on Labor Day, they threw an abrupt and surprising “coming out” party, complete with a rainbow flag cake and a “Gay Pride!” banner, despite the fact that he’s notoriously shy.

“I’m very disappointed at learning how stereotypical my loved one’s views of homosexuality are,” he laments.

I used to admire these people, but they clearly no longer think highly of me. I’m just ‘the gay one’ now. It’s very emasculating and embarrassing. I think they would still respect me if I were straight. I am starting to hate my sexuality.”

Needless to say, the advice from other Redditors swiftly poured in.

“You might need to start getting harsh,” suggests DiTrastevere.

As soon as someone starts in on the stereotyping, just remind them “I’ve asked you not to do that, please stop.” If they won’t shut up, walk away/sign off/hang up. Keep doing for as long as it takes to train them out of it. They’ll learn eventually if they care about their relationships with you.”

“You’re right in that they are disrespectful to you,” tingiling writes. “They are straight (heh) up telling you that they, a group of cis-het people, know more about being gay than you, an actual gay person.

The fact that this is having a negative impact on you is very important here. You’re well-being matters more than their stereotypical assumptions. So being polite doesn’t have to be a priority.”

“I do think it will die down over time once it becomes clear that you weren’t hiding some secret ‘gay persona’ from them,” says six_of_swords.

But in the meantime, I think you’re going to have to fight a little. You’ll probably have to keep reminding people – maybe a bit aggressively – that their stereotypes are not welcome.”

What would you do if you were in this guy’s predicament? Do chime in in the comments section below.

Ryan Murphy: The WB Execs Were ‘Relentlessly Homophobic’ During the Making of ‘Popular’

ryan murphy

Writer/producer/director Ryan Murphy says that executives at theThe WB were “very homophobic” during the making of his first TV series, Popular.

Murphy recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the series. Murphy says that Popular was originally a feature-length script which he adapted into TV a pilot because of what was selling in the marketplace at the time.

de16e74362f1852b5fdfc37d86cc5514He explains: “Kevin Williamson had just sold Dawson’s Creek and my agent at the time said, ‘I think maybe you would like television. Why don’t we try this as a TV show?’ And I went around and I pitched it. The four networks wanted it. And I ended up going with The WB.”

Popular made its debut on The WB in 1999.

Murphy says that his experience working with The WB was not a positive one: “They never got me and they kept trying to turn me into something else. And they were very homophobic even though they would have gay characters on the air.”

He adds, “They would give me notes, like, ‘The Mary Cherry character, like, could she be less gay?’ Like, it was very relentlessly homophobic.’ It was rough and I didn’t have a good experience with the studio and everybody.”

Though Popular only lasted for two seasons, it became a cult classic nonetheless. Murphy says that the show taught him to “follow your gut, listen to your voice, and if they don’t want your voice, they don’t want you.”

WATCH LIVE: The First 2016 Presidential Debate Between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

Well, it’s finally upon us. Today is the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The debate is scheduled to take place at 9PM EST at Hofstra University in New York.

According to new polling data, the race is neck and neck.

The New York Times reports:

Quinnipiac University declared the race “too close to call” on Monday, as its latest national poll of likely voters found Mrs. Clinton edging Mr. Trump by a margin of 47 percent to 46 percent in a head-to-head matchup.

A separate poll of likely voters from Monmouth University showed Mrs. Clinton holding a lead of four-percentage points in a four-way contest, leading by a margin of 46 percent to 44 percent. A month ago, Mrs. Clinton led by 7 points.

Polls conducted CNN/ORC in Colorado and Pennsylvania that included Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, the Libertarian and Green Party candidates, also offered little clarity. Mr. Trump holds a one percentage point advantage in Colorado, while Mrs. Clinton leads by the same margin in Pennsylvania.

In both states, voters with college degrees overwhelmingly support Mrs. Clinton. Those with less education heavily favor Mr. Trump.

Without a doubt, each and every one of the nine contestants in this weekend’s 2016 Miss’d America pageant in Atlantic City came to werk! After all, competing in this type of drag pageant is no small feat, requiring a significant investment of time, energy and resources. But, it has to be said, one queen clearly stood head-and-shoulder-pads above the rest: Mimi Imfurst totally owned this year’s competition.

From the moment the curtain went up at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on her elaborate, Off- Broadway-caliber performance of “Sweet Transvestite”—complete with live music courtesy of the Melanie Rice Orchestra, back-up dancers and extras playing the other Rocky Horror characters—the crown belonged to Mimi. Even her Sea Witch-inspired look took the swimsuit portion of the competition to the next level with its enormous plush tentacles wrap.

At the post event press conference, Mimi took the opportunity to pay tribute to Rocky Horror, which she said she was never allowed to watch as a child because her mother feared it would “turn” her gay. “It’s a camp film, but the message is ‘Don’t dream it, be it,’” Imfurst explained. “I hope that I can inspire everybody to be what they want to be and to create the change in their own lives that they want to create for themselves. If we all do it, bigger change will happen.”

It wasn’t just an eventful night for the RuPaul’s Drag Race alum. Host Carson Kressley celebrated his fifth year emceeing the event, which benefits both the Greater Atlantic City GLBT Alliance and the Schultz-Hill Foundation. Don Guardian, Atlantic City’s first openly gay mayor, was on hand to proclaim the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fashion guru “queen for the day.”

“Do I get a cash price or a car or anything,” Kressley joked. “Do I get one of the dancers?”

Last year’s winner, Miss’d America 2016 Fifi Dubois opened the show with an old-school Vegas showgirl style number, later returning to the stage to lipsync songs by Bernadette Peters and Sia. Her reign ended on a particularly triumphant note, with her long-time boyfriend proposing to her live on stage.

“It’s a wonderful event,” Kressley said later. “We remember that we can make change in our community. We can support ourselves and we can also entertain the world. I think these queens all did that tonight.”

This Sex Toy Manufacturer Is Being Sued For Spying

This Sex Toy Manufacturer Is Being Sued For Spying

keyhole-742659

Standard Innovation is an umbrella corporation consisting of two separate sex-toy companies: the trippy-sounding We-Vibe and the much more specific Laid, the “first Norwegian company to design and manufacture products for sexual pleasure and wellbeing.”

A new lawsuit filed by an unnamed Illinois woman accuses Standard Innovation of spying: specifically, collecting intimate customer data like what vibration settings tend to get them going, and their individual body temperatures when feeling sexy.

Related: Turns Out There’s An Abundance Of Creepy Sex Toys Out There

According to the suit, the “We-Vibe 4” toy was covertly squirreling away this specific and definitely private information while jabbing extremely powerful orgasms into its customers.

The toy apparently lets people who aren’t in the same place trade messages, start video chats, and remotely control the device from different locations. (“Just wanted to let you know I’m thinking of ya,” Bzzzzt! “AAAGHHH!,” etc.)

The lawsuit takes umbrage with the fact that Standard Innovations failed to let customers know this data was being monitored, so ecstatically wriggling users of the We-Vibe 4 had no way of knowing their every overly stagey gyration was being tracked.

Related: What Is It About These Male Sex Dolls That’s So Creepy? Oh, Everything.

As Pink News reports, this isn’t standard practice for large tech companies like Microsoft and Apple, who first ask users for permission before receiving diagnostic reports.

Eve-Lynn Rapp is representing the distraught Illinois woman who will never be able to look at a vibrating egg again without narrowing her eyes.

Rapp told Sputnik News that this dastardly toy was even tracking IP addresses, like a creepy ex-lover covertly planning the darkest vengeance.

“Given how personal the information is what the company was doing is inappropriate,” she says, explaining that the info was being used to increase market share and sale of their products.

The Illinois woman accuses Standard Innovations of violating client privacy by collecting this information without asking for permission.

The company has now revised its terms of service and specifically lets users opt out of the data tracking part of the device, just in case data tracking isn’t the sort of thing that really turns you on.

Man Convicted of Gang Assault that Left a Gay Black Man Blind in One Eye Released on Bail – VIDEO

A Hasidic Jewish man convicted of the brutal gang assault of a gay black man in Brooklyn was released on bail on Monday.

Mayer Herskovic, 23, was found guilty of attacking 25 year-old Taj Patterson on December 1, 2013. At the time, Herskovic was part of a Jewish security force that was patrolling the neighborhood of Williamsburg. Though Herskovic was the only one convicted, eyewitness say there were up to 20 members of the Jewish security force that attacked Patterson. They hurled anti-gay slurs at him and blinded him in his right eye.

Patterson said he was walking him from a birthday party when the assault happened. “I was alone. I was an easy target. I’m black. I’m gay, a whole slew of reasons,” he said.

Herskovic faces up to 15 years in prison.

The New York Daily News reports on Herskovic’s conviction:

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun convicted Herskovic of three charges after the nonjury trial — gang assault in the second degree, unlawful imprisonment and menacing.

He found Herskovic not guilty of the top charge, gang assault in the first degree, which carries a maximum of 25 years.

Witnesses said at least 20 Orthodox men tied to a Jewish security patrol attacked Patterson as he was walking home to Fort Greene from a friend’s birthday party.

The men kicked, punched and dragged Patterson, and threw one of his shoes on a nearby roof.

The shoe wound up doing Herskovic in — his DNA was found on the heel of Patterson’s Nike Air Jordan sneaker.

screen-shot-2016-09-26-at-11-42-31-am-1

Patterson underwent three surgeries as a result of his injuries.

Herskovic’s bail was raised on Monday from $50,000 to $150,000. He reportedly made bail within 30 minutes.

More on Herskovic’s release from The News:

Four other defendants — Pinchas Braver, Abraham Winkler, Joseph Fried and Aaron Hollender — had their cases dismissed or pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

On Monday, Herskovic was handcuffed and placed into the holding cell adjacent to Justice Chun’s courtroom after his bail was increased but the bail bondsman quickly cleared the bond.

Herskovic exited the courtroom at 10:11 a.m. with his family and was ordered back to court for sentencing on Nov. 14.

Asked about his conviction, Herskovic told reporters that he wasn’t happy with the “bias reporting.”

Previously, Patterson has said that the NYPD mishandled his case, pointing to the fact that his case was initially closed before any suspects had been identified or brought in.

WABC reports:

[Patterson] waited days to hear from police, and when he didn’t, Patterson went to the 90th Precinct and learned his case had been closed. That happened despite statements from four eyewitnesses, one of whom even provided a license plate number.

The report stated that Patterson was “uncooperative and incoherent” and the case was characterized -at most – as a “misdemeanor.” […]

Patterson said that only after he and his family went public, the Brooklyn district attorney and the NYPD hate crimes unit arrested five young men, some of whom were affiliated with the Jewish security patrol known as the Shomrim.

Patterson now believes the initial decision to close his case is part of a broader culture of favoritism currently under investigation by federal prosecutors and NYPD internal affairs detectives.

Patterson added, “Let’s say a Hasidic Jewish man got attacked by a group of African American men, I believe this case would have went down a lot differently.”

Watch a news report and interview with Patterson, below.

HRC Endorses Patrick Murphy of Florida for U.S. Senate

HRC Endorses Patrick Murphy of Florida for U.S. Senate

Today, HRC announced its endorsement of Patrick Murphy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Marco Rubio.

“The choice for LGBTQ Floridians could not be more clear in November. Patrick Murphy has a record of leadership on equality while Marco Rubio has dedicated his career to opposing LGBTQ equality,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Patrick Murphy believes that everyone should be able to live free from fear of discrimination, including LGBTQ people. That’s why Patrick Murphy supports the Equality Act, and why we’re proud to support his campaign.”

“I’m so proud to receive the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that has led the way in the fight for LGBT equality,” said Rep. Murphy. “The passionate leadership of HRC helped bring down Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, pass anti-hate crimes legislation, and made love is love the law of the land. I was proud to celebrate these victories with HRC and I look forward to standing with them as we continue to fight for equality. After the tragic Pulse shooting, it is clear that much work remains to end discrimination and keep LGBT Americans safe. We can start by passing the Equality Act and this will be a top priority for me in the U.S. Senate.”

Rep. Murphy continued, “From marriage equality to employment non-discrimination, Marco Rubio has opposed LGBT equality at every opportunity and has never stood with our LGBT community in Florida. Our state deserves a Senator who represents the voice of the LGBT community and all Floridians in the U.S. Senate.”

Just last week, Rep. Murphy authored a letter asking that the IRS ensure that OneOrlando Fund payouts to survivors of the Pulse shooting were not taxed by the IRS. The IRS said Friday that such payouts would be exempt from income tax. Marco Rubio, meanwhile, spent the two-month anniversary of the Pulse tragedy courting the support of anti-LGBTQ activists just miles from the site of the tragedy in Orlando.

Rubio promised in his campaign for president that he would never evolve and support LGBTQ equality, putting him massively out of step with Floridians on LGBTQ issues. A 53 percent majority of Floridians support marriage equality according to nonpartisan polling release this year, while a 70 percent majority support LGBTQ non-discrimination protections, which Florida lacks.

Among Rubio’s anti-LGBTQ positions during the presidential campaign:

On Marriage Equality: Marco Rubio was an early opponent of the United States Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality, saying that would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn it. He sought to turn back the clock on nationwide marriage equality throughout the campaign and notoriously told a same-sex couple in New Hampshire that marriage should be between “one man and one woman.” Rubio went on to bizarrely tell the couple they should have the law changed by their state legislature, even though New Hampshire enacted civil unions through the legislative process in 2007, and legalized marriage equality by the same process in 2009.

On Non-Discrimination Protections: Rubio vowed to repeal all of President Obama’s executive orders, including the LGBTQ federal contractor order that protects LGBTQ workers. Previously, Rubio voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, maintaining a status quo where millions of LGBTQ Americans remain at risk for being fired or denied a job because of who they are or who they love.

On Transgender Rights: Rubio opposed allowing transgender students to use facilities that correspond to their gender identity.

On Kim Davis: Marco Rubio vowed to sign the so-called “First Amendment Defense Act,” as President, a bill which would bring Kim Davis-style discrimination to the federal government.

On Mike Pence: As recently as this year, Marco Rubio defended the Indiana Governor, who attempted to write discrimination into state law and allow businesses to discriminate and deny service to someone just because of who they are or whom they love.
