Only One Candidate Looked Presidential At The Debate. It Wasn’t The Orange One.

Only One Candidate Looked Presidential At The Debate. It Wasn’t The Orange One.

trump-clinton-debateFor most Americans, tonight’s debate was the most time they’ve ever spent with Donald Trump. With any luck, it filled them with horror.

For sheer unhinged lunacy, Trump was hard to beat. He can’t ever admit that he makes a mistake, so he doubled down on his birtherism lies.  He denied saying things he was proven to have said, including about climate change and the Iraq War. He interrupted Clinton 25 times in the first 26 minutes of the debate, often by shouting over her. His answers were recognizable as English, although the words were strung together so haphazardly, you’ll have to take our work for it. He even seemed to acknowledge that he hasn’t paid federal income taxes, which is quite an admission for a presidential candidate.

Perhaps worst of all was the gallery of faces that Trump made while Clinton spoke. It was easy to dismiss the pouts, the snarls, and the eye rolls after a while, but if you watched the debate with the sound off, you’d see someone who looked like a ham actor and someone who looked like, well, a president.

Clinton, by contrast, can prepared for the fight, and she quickly got under Trump’s skin. She also played his game against him, by speculating (without any real knowledge) about why Trump won’t release his tax returns. It was a classic Trump gimmick, but delivered in a much more measured, and logical, way.

As the presidential race tightens, the candidates are really fighting for just a handful of voters. Did Trump do himself any favors? Probably not. He’s too scattered to hammer the same message repeatedly and too enamored of himself not to rise to the bait and start yelling at anyone in his path.

Of course, what will matter is how the media play the results. It would be hard to say with a straight face that Trump scored a tie, but in their unending quest for false equivalency, the media could end up saying just that. Besides, a close race is good for the ratings and readership. Trump isn’t the only one who cares about the bottom line.

Will Grace reunion

Need to ease some pre-debate jitters? The Will & Grace cast have reunited ten years after the show’s finale for a new scene about the presidential election.

Will and Grace are understandably mortified that Trump is the Republican nominee for president, Karen Walker just spent the weekend with Donald and Melania at Mar a Lago, and Jack is an “unemployed, uneducated angry white man” who is registered to vote in Pennsylvania, and convinced to vote for the right candidate in the end.

And Rosario, as usual, has the last laugh.

Also dished in the new scene: 50 Shades of Gray, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Rachel Maddow and a miniature horse named Ann Coulter, The Ryan Lochte Dancing with the Stars attack, Hamilton, President Obama and more…

Well, that didn’t take long. Donald Trump decided that the way he proves he looks presidential is to start shouting over the woman in the room (and the African-American moderator).

Unfortunately for him, Hillary isn’t a sub. If anything, she’s showing that she’s the dom here by goading Trump. Her line that he’s not paying any taxes was a stiletto between the ribs.

Donald Trump Kicks Off The Debate By Thanking His Dad and The Housing Crisis

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are tightening their grips on the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are tightening their grips on the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations.

Donald Trump is off to a great start: he acknowledged that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and that he hoped to profit off the housing crisis.

And God bless Clinton for saying that Trump lives in his own reality. If by reality, you mean make-believe universe, that’s totally accurate.

Tim Kaine Joins HRC Debate Watch Party in Orlando

Tim Kaine Joins HRC Debate Watch Party in Orlando

Tonight, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine is joining HRC President Chad Griffin and Florida supporters for our debate watch party in Orlando. After paying tribute at Pulse nightclub, Kaine and Griffin — joined by Gabby Giffords and retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly — will speak to hundreds of pro-equality voters at HRC’s watch party.

Just two weeks ago, Senator Kaine keynoted HRC’s National Dinner in Washington, DC, where he spoke about how he and Hillary Clinton would fight for LGBTQ equality in the White House and rebuked Donald Trump’s attempts to pander to the LGBTQ community.

Through HRC’s #turnOUT 2016 campaign, HRC is working to mobilize and turn out LGBTQ and pro-equality voters in Florida and other battleground states across the country. In Florida, the LGBTQ community play a decisive role in the election. The LGBTQ adult voting bloc is more than half a million — or 560,000 — in the Sunshine State — and in 2012, President Obama won Florida by just over 70,000 votes.

A majority of Floridians support LGBTQ equality, according to polling released by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute. A stunning 70 percent of Floridianssupport LGBTQ non-discrimination protections while 58 percent of Floridians said small-business owners should not be able to discriminate against LGBTQ people based on their religious beliefs.

Help HRC #turnOUT the vote this election season for pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot! Register to vote today and learn more about how you can get involved, visit hrc.org/VoteEquality.

Paid for by Human Rights Campaign PAC and authorized by Hillary for America’s committee.
