Samantha Bee Returns to Election 2016 and ’Everything Is Scary Now’ – WATCH

samantha bee

Samantha Bee returned from her hiatus on Monday night just in time for the final stretch of election 2016.

Bee said what many have been feeling when she recapped recent political events by saying “everything is scary now.”

On Hillary’s fainting episode over the weekend, Bee quipped, “Let’s get right to the big news, Hillary Clinton has passed away. She says she’s not dead, but as we know she is a liar.”

The “drip drip drip” of bad headlines for Clinton, as one FOX News anchor put it, has led to Clinton’s lead in the polls being eroded. Which means “we’re back within the margin of terror”, Bee joked.

Then there was Hillary’s remarks over the weekend calling half of all Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables.” Said Bee,

“No! Bad! I swear to God Hillary Clinton is the only woman I know who can trip over her own dick. […] What was that? Did you team just decide, hey, nothing else is working, why don’t we try insulting Americans into voting for her. You know, when you see grossly generalistic in the prompter, that’s when you take a breath and think, ‘Do I want to keep talking?’ You don’t barge ahead and torpedo your campaign with a dumb-dumb remark. That’s Bill’s job! Don’t alienate the deplorables. You can’t win a four way race with just plorables!”

But then Bee dug into polling that looks at what Trump’s supporters actually believe. And it turns out more than half of them support rather bigoted and “deplorable” views. Which led Bee to conclude, “we are going to need a bigger basket.”

Watch, below.

Ellen Welcomes Michelle Obama, and Bradley Cooper’s Wardrobe Malfunction: WATCH

ellen michelle obama

First Lady Michelle Obama joined Ellen DeGeneres to co-host the show with her today and of course it got started with the two of them dancing in the audience.

Watch:

FLOTUS sat down for a chat about her eight years in the White House and said that the thing she’ll miss the most about the White House is the people. She talked about her daughters Sasha and Malia and how they’ve grown up, and the White House memories she’ll take with her.

They played ‘Oops My Water Broke’ and doused Golden State Warrior basketball star Stephen Curry with water balloons:

Finally, they attempted to take a selfie and were surprised by Bradley Cooper who has grown a big billy goat beard.

Cooper attended the 2014 White House State Dinner. Without his underwear.

“I had one tuxedo it didn’t fit. I was so nervous it was gonna rip, and so I decided last minute to 86 the underwear,” said Cooper.

Quipped Ellen: “Because if it should rip, it’s much better to not have underwear on.”

“For us,” said FLOTUS. “It’s good for us. Right ladies?”

Weeks Before Transgender Day of Remembrance, HRC Mourns T.T.; Trans Woman Found Murdered in Chicago

Weeks Before Transgender Day of Remembrance, HRC Mourns T.T.; Trans Woman Found Murdered in Chicago

Yesterday, Windy City Times reported that a transgender woman named T.T. was found murdered in Chicago’s Garfield Park this past weekend. Reports say she was well-known in Chicago’s transgender community; her friends recalled T.T. as a “lovely” and “happy, cheerful” person who was always laughing.

T.T.’s friends held a vigil for her on Monday night. Including T.T., at least 18 transgender people are known to have been murdered in the U.S. this year. The majority of these victims, including all the deaths in August, have been transgender women of color.

Also, during a court hearing yesterday, a Jackson County, Miss., sheriff’s deputy revealed horrifying details in the death of Dee Whigham, a 25-year-old transgender woman of color who was killed on July 23 in St. Martin, Mississippi. According to the autopsy results, Dee was stabbed a 119 times. The findings, reported two months before Transgender Day of Remembrance, highlight the need to address the ongoing epidemic of anti-transgender violence.

The suspect, 20-year-old Dwanya Hickerson, has been charged with capital murder in Whigham’s death and is being held without bond. Dee was a registered nurse at a hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and was visiting St. Martin to attend the Gulf Coast Black Rodeo with friends and co-workers, according to the Sun Herald. She was killed at Best Western Plus Cypress Creek hotel.

These are just two of several recent incidents of deeply disturbing, deadly violence against transgender people.

To learn more about the realities that conspire to put transgender people — especially transgender women of color — at risk of fatal violence, read HRC’s 2015 Addressing Anti-Transgender Violence report, released in partnership with the Trans People of Color Coalition (TPOCC). The report also details solutions that can be pursued by policymakers, advocates and public and private sector leaders to address this national crisis.

IN TODAY’S EDITION: NCAA pulls events from NC over anti-LGBTQ HB2 law… Feds ask for clarification in Texas trans discrimination case injunction… Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen becomes second Republican to co-sponsor the Equality Act… Nyle DiMarco signs with Senator Tim Kaine… New York Fashion Week Opening Ceremony features Sarah McBride… Photo of 12-year-old boy trying to block anti-LGBTQ marchers goes viral… Marriage equality bills introduced in Australia…

NCAA PULLS CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS FROM NC OVER DISCRIMINATORY HB2 LAW: HRC hailed the NCAA’s decision yesterday to stand up for LGBTQ equality by moving all 2016-2017 championship events out of the state of North Carolina due to the anti-LGBTQ HB2 law. In its decision, the NCAA cited its commitment to an “inclusive atmosphere for all college athletes, coaches, administrators and fans,” said HRC President Chad Griffin (@ChadHGriffin): “The NCAA just sent a clear message to North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and state lawmakers that it will not tolerate hateful laws targeting student athletes, fans, and employees. Every day that HB2 remains on the books, countless people across North Carolina are at risk of real harm. NCAA President Mark Emmert has shown tremendous leadership by taking a bold stand for equality in the face of discrimination. It’s long past time state lawmakers repealed this vile law, and if they don’t, the majority of voters opposed to HB2 will ensure they pay the price in November.” See reports in the The Washington Post and The Charlotte News & Observer, which said: “If Gov. Pat McCrory and the North Carolina legislators who have failed to repeal or otherwise fix House Bill 2 didn’t see this one coming, they just weren’t paying attention.”

Unhinged @NCGOP statement. This is sickening and they should apologize immediately. t.co/4BdPHxylp2

— Chad Griffin (@ChadHGriffin) September 13, 2016

  • North Carolina GOP releases shocking, transphobic statement about NCAA decision.
  • Meanwhile, Greensboro, N.C.-based ACC President John Swofford says that HB2 and future league events in NC will be discussed at this week’s ACC Council of Presidents meeting, adding: “On a personal note, it’s time for this bill to be repealed as it’s counter to basic human rights. More from NBC.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ASKS FOR CLARIFICATION IN TRANS DISCRIMINATION CASE: The federal government filed a brief yesterday asking for clarification regarding an injunction issued by a federal judge last week pertaining to guidance provided to school districts by the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice regarding the civil rights of transgender students. In Texas v. United States, U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor blocked the Department of Justice from enforcing the guidance that provides advice to schools about how to ensure that the civil rights of transgender students are not abridged, including their rights to use restrooms and other facilities consistent with their gender identity. The federal government’s brief says the injunction could have broader implications than the judge intended for transgender workers and others, and are therefore asking for several clarifications to the order. More from BuzzFeed.

  • The Virginia Supreme Court said yesterday it will consider an appeal brought by the deplorable, anti-LGBTQ Liberty Counsel challenging the Fairfax County School District’s LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination policy. A county circuit court judge dismissed the lawsuit in February. More from The Washington Blade.

CONGRESSWOMAN ROS-LEHTINEN CO-SPONSORS EQUALITY ACT: Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) (@RosLehtinen), is now the second Republican in the House to co-sponsor the Equality Act, a bill that would establish explicit, permanent protections against discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity in matters of employment, housing, access to public places, federal funding, credit, education and jury service. In addition, it would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in federal funding and access to public places. HRC Communications Director Jay Brown (@JayBrownHRC) said, “Equality isn’t a partisan value. It’s an American value. Representative Ros-Lehtinen is once again stepping up to ensure LGBTQ people have the same access and opportunities as our neighbors.”

At the “Pageant of the People” event, highlighting America’s diversity, McBride said: “We must never be a country that says there’s only one way to love, only one way to look, and only one way to live. We must be a country where everyone has the freedom to live openly and equally.” More from Elle and New York Magazine.

Nyle DiMarco Reveals One Advantage To Being Deaf (Hint: It Has To Do With Donald Trump)

Nyle DiMarco Reveals One Advantage To Being Deaf (Hint: It Has To Do With Donald Trump)

 screen-shot-2016-09-12-at-5-17-39-pm

Tonight is about embracing our identities and our differences to find confidence to do whatever we are inspired to do. My passion, personally, is being my true self while inspiring young people who are struggling with their identities to love themselves for who they are. And myself, as a sexually fluid deaf man, I know that embracing all our identities is the way to thrive and to overcome the limitations and prejudices that surround us. There is no doubt in my mind that human diversity is what colors our world. For all LGBTQ Americans, we know from experience that labels can’t hold us back. We can change the world one person at a time simply by being our true selves.”

“Seriously, I don’t find not being able to hear an obstacle or a boundary. For me and for many of us, it is an advantage and it’s a part of my identity in fact. It’s a huge part of who I am. And in this very turbulent political year, trust me, don’t you want to sometimes just turn the volume off completely when Donald Trump starts to rant? I have a tremendous advantage there as well. I don’t hear a thing.”Dancing with the Stars and America’s Next Top Model winner Nyle DiMarco, speaking at the Human Rights Campaign National Gala this weekend, during a beautiful speech about being a deaf member of the LGBTQ community.

House of Mayhem: TV Series About Homeless LGBTQ Youth Launches Crowdfunding Campaign

House Mayhem

Based on the GLAAD award-nominated play Auntie Mayhem by David Pumo, a new series about homeless LGBTQ youth has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $39,850 to cover the production’s costs.

House of Mayhem, a “raw, unflinching look at bullied, abandoned gay and transgender kids, and the unique and alternative families they create,” is based on Pumo’s legal work with LGBTQ teens who account for 40-50% of entire homeless youth and a third of all teen suicides.

House of Mayhem is a timely series with immediate importance and relevance. It’s a story of hope and acceptance that cracks open the definition of family, and presents a world where all kids have value.”

Here’s Video of the Mexican Boy Who Stood Up to Thousands of Anti-Gay Protesters and Went Viral

Mexican boy gay

Here is video of the Mexican boy who placed himself in front of thousands of anti-gay marriage protesters in Celaya, Guanajuato Mexico over the weekend to try and stop the hate. The instantly iconic photograph ricocheted around the world.

The video shows that the boy was in the middle of the street for just a  few moments. And yes, his motivation was to stop the marchers.

RELATED: 12-Year-Old Mexican Boy Attempts to Block Thousands of Anti-Gay Protesters

Manuel Rodriguez, who shot the photo, told Buzzfeed Mexico that yes, the boy was doing it because his uncle Cesar is gay and he wanted to stop the hate:

“Several media outlets congregated on the bridge. I saw this little boy walking against the crowd, doing stop signals with his arms, and he called my attention. I decided to take the photograph. The crowd reached him and he was taken aside. The little boy continued on to the market. I got off the bridge quickly and I asked him if he was just playing or if he had a motive. Hearing those words from a boy who is about 12 years old, the way he expressed himself, really impressed me. I didn’t think that the photograph would strike such a chord. In fact, I uploaded it to my personal profile to share it with my friends. I’m against this protest organized by the National Family Front, but as a journalist I cannot take a stance, so I uploaded it to my personal profile.”

From there it was picked up by the Mexican publication Regeneracion.

The photo has gone viral internationally. Towleroad’s post alone has been shared more than 33,000 times.
