This Vicar Compared A Gay Pride Tea Party To Child Abuse For Kicks

bizarre-church-signs-funny-20

What dark secrets do you suppose lie in the private life of Dr. Peter Danlon?

The preacher recently posted a rant to Facebook accusing gay people of damaging the church, and comparing a Gay Pride event to child abuse.

Given what we know about anti-gay extremists, the mind boggles at what he might be up to behind closed doors.

Peter’s anxiety was triggered by a church-sponsored gay pride tea event.

He wrote on the Diocese of Chester’s wall:

Given your diocese has one of the worst records on historic child abuse in the C of E, and even now has a special procedure of investigation to discover what went on and who in addition to the bishop currently in prison was involved, one would think your diocese would have the humility and wisdom to stop pushing sexual boundaries.

Well, he certainly seems passionate about the issue.

Later, he wrote that gay people would be “given an accounting before God’s judgement throne.”

With friendly rhetoric like that, one wonders what sort of accounting Peter is anticipating for himself.

Of course, religious bigotry aimed at LGBTs (or any marginalized group du jour) is nothing new. But churches have been making some progress over the last few years, weighing their long-standing prejudices against the possibility that they might become completely irrelevant.

One day, attitudes like Peter’s will likely fall out of favor. Until then, it’s probably best to avoid people like him.

There’s no telling what sort of trouble they might be getting into.

This Texas County Just Called Out Anti-LGBT State Leaders in a Powerful Way

ElPaso

Commissioners in El Paso County, Texas, unanimously approved a resolution this week linking anti-transgender rhetoric from Republican state leaders to violence against the LGBT community.

StoutDemocratic Commissioner David Stout (right), who authored the resolution, said he did so in response to public statements by the likes of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’ve effectively declared war on the trans community in recent months.

“WHEREAS, history has demonstrated that rhetoric and discourse that promotes fearintolerance, and hate can manifest into the darkest and most horrific of human actions and transgressions against one another,” the resolution states. “NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the El Paso County Judge and Commissioners Court, that the County of El Paso opposes the harmful rhetoric aimed at the LGBTQ community by state leaders … “

From The Texas Observer:

Patrick, for example, has repeatedly asserted that LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination laws will lead to “men in women’s bathrooms,” even though there’s no evidence to support his claim.

“Those types of statements and that type of rhetoric, it’s ugly, and I don’t think there’s any place for that in public discourse,” Stout said. “You continue to proliferate this type of rhetoric, and you’re just opening the doors for folks to continue to commit hate crimes against these populations.”

A spokesman for Patrick, who’s arguably been the state’s most outspoken opponent of trans rights, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

El Paso commissioners also unanimously voted to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the county’s nondiscrimination policy, and came out against statewide anti-LGBT legislation.

“I definitely would urge other cities and counties to do the same so the voice becomes stronger and more impactful,” Stout said.

Out New Jersey Priest Fired for Second Time in Two Years for Backing Gay Rights

Out New Jersey Priest Fired for Second Time in Two Years for Backing Gay Rights

warren hall

Out gay priest Warren Hall has been let go from his job as minister to two parishes because of his support for gay rights advocacy groups and for a lesbian teacher who was fired for being in a same-sex marriage.

This is the second time in the last two years that Hall has been fired by Newark Archbishop John Myers because of his involvement with and support for the gay rights movement.

Religion News Service reports:

Father Warren Hall said he was notified by phone on Wednesday (Aug. 31) that Newark Archbishop John Myers, an outspoken conservative who has submitted his retirement papers to Pope Francis, says Hall’s actions are “confusing the faithful.”

As a result, Hall will no longer be able to celebrate Mass in public, present himself as a priest or work in the New Jersey parishes where he has been ministering.

“The problem is that we have an archbishop who doesn’t believe you can be gay and Catholic,” Hall, who is on vacation, wrote in an email.

Hall took to Twitter to comment on his firing, writing on Wednesday, “Sadly, my differences with my bishop continue. Today he has suspended me from priestly ministry. @Pontifex‘s Reform are taking too long.”

Sadly, my differences with my bishop continue. Today he has suspended me from priestly ministry. @Pontifex‘s Reform are taking too long.

— Warren Hall (@Warrmeister) August 31, 2016

Hall has been an outspoken supporter of gay advocacy groups PFLAG, Gays Against Guns, and New Ways Ministry, a Catholic LGBT group.

In firing Hall from his work at two parishes in northern New Jersey, the archdiocese “also cited Hall’s support for an unofficial gay and lesbian ministry at the church’s World Youth Day in Poland in July and his support for a guidance counselor who has sued the archdiocese for firing her over her same-sex marriage.”

That teacher, Kate Drumgoole, has sued the Catholic School that fired her.

Hall was previously fired from his role as the director of campus ministry at Seton Hall university because he posted a picture supporting the NOH8 campaign on Facebook. He subsequently came out as gay.

The Newark Archdiocese insists that Hall’s was terminated neither time because he is gay. However, they have condemned him for identifying himself as gay.

Said the archdiocese in a statement, “someone who labels himself or another in terms of sexual orientation or attraction contradicts what the (Catholic) Church teaches.”

A spokesman for Archbishop Myers, James Goodness, offered this statement trying to explain how Hall’s ousting was about Church doctrine and not sexuality:

“Every Catholic priest promises to be reverent and obedient to his bishop. A priest’s actions and statements always must be consistent with the discipline, norms and teachings of the Catholic Church. When they are ordained, priests agree to accept the bishop’s judgment about assignments and involvement in ministry.”

MyersArchbishop Myers has a history of opposing gay rights and in particular gay marriage. In 2012, he said pro-gay Catholics should refrain from taking communion and in 2015 actually banned Catholics who support gay marriage from receiving communion.

Hall called his second termination at the hands of Archbishop Myers “hurtful” in an email to Religion News Services.

Referring to his parishes, Hall wrote, “They fully welcomed me after my firing from Seton Hall last year, they know my personal story and made me a member of the family.”

Hall urged gay Catholics to remain in the Church and keep pushing for reform:

“Since my firing from Seton Hall and coming out last year I felt an obligation to use this as an opportunity to more directly let people know of God’s love for all of us and that gay Catholics should stay in the church and work for more wider acceptance. I do not feel I ever preached or taught anything contrary to the Gospel (and) this is true from my entire 27 years of ordination [as a priest].”

Austin Gay Pride Draws Record Crowd, But Not Everyone’s Happy – VIDEO

Austin Gay Pride Draws Record Crowd, But Not Everyone’s Happy – VIDEO

AustinPride

Austin’s LGBT Pride celebration drew 350,000 people last Saturday, according to organizers, making it the largest single-day event in a city that is also home to numerous major festivals, including South By Southwest:

Screen Shot 2016-09-02 at 10.41.09 AM

However, not everyone who attended (or tried to attend) this year’s Pride celebration came away satisfied. Veteran local LGBT journalist Ann Rostow writes:

I may have mentioned in previous years that Austin Pride is scheduled for different, seemingly random, weekends and I never can figure out when the damn celebration is supposed to occur. At first we moved from late June to sometime in September in order to beat the heat. That’s fine, but somehow we have moved it back to late August, which is far hotter than late June. We also have a nighttime parade, which helps, but again, we could have done that in June as well.

At any rate, Mel and I dutifully trekked over to the festival the other day, only to learn that we’d have to pay $20 each in order to wander aimlessly around collecting keychains and pens from our local real estate agents and financial planners. Oh, and let’s not forget signing up for “contests” that trigger a year or so of spam and winding up with a dozen fliers about lesbians who save gorillas or GLBT projects in Appalachia—all of which are great, by the way, but hello? Don’t they want people to attend in order to make it worthwhile for the people who buy booth space? Am I crazy, or wouldn’t you expect to pay five dollars or maximum ten in order to enter a pride festival? It’s not as if some fabulous entertainment was lurking within.

Hey, I’ve been to enough of these for one lifetime, and we’re happy to support the community, but this was extortion. We left on principle, and since we saved $40 we had some oysters and a couple of glasses of wine for “free.”

On a positive note, with the transgender community currently under siege in Texas, a trans woman won the Miss Austin Pride Pageant for the first time, according to Fox 7. Watch the report below.

Now That She Knows Her Fiancé’s Best Friend Is Gay, She Doesn’t Like How They Fool Around

Now That She Knows Her Fiancé’s Best Friend Is Gay, She Doesn’t Like How They Fool Around

5.-Mutual-Friends

A tormented young woman with nowhere left to turn has taken to Reddit in the hopes that the Internet will solve her problems.

Related:Straight Men And Women Can’t Contain Jealousy Of Promiscuous Gay Man’s Sexcapades

Chief among them: Now that she knows her fiancé’s best friend is “secretly gay,” she no longer thinks it’s particularly cute the way they joke around. Things get a little flirty.

“My SO and I have been together for three years, and were recently engaged,” she explains.

His best friend “Bruce” has known my boyfriend since kindergarten, and I’ve known him for almost as long as I’ve known my boyfriend. Both of them are definitely the athletic “bro” type.

You know how a lot of straight guys do the hyperbolically fauxmo-erotic thing as some sort of weird male bonding ritual? Fuck if I get it, but I’m aware that a lot of guys do it, which is why this hasn’t been a problem for me….

This anonymous lady began working with one of Bruce’s exes a few weeks back, and she revealed that he’s at least bisexual. This overly chatty ex found homoerotic texts and nude photos, a gay dating app on his phone, and even an online dating profile in which he’s seeking male affection.

Related: Her Husband No Longer Wants To Have Sex So He’s Gotta Be Gay–Right?!

“My SO has no idea yet,” she explains.

But, given what I’ve found out, I’m now uncomfortable with the kind of ‘joking around’ that the two of them do…. I want the physical contact between them to stop. I’m okay with them being friends. They’ve been friends forever, he’s been a good friend to my SO, and I would never “forbid” their friendship. I just don’t want him groping my future husband.”

Now she simply doesn’t know what to do. “I feel like I should tell my SO,” she says “I feel like Bruce’s girlfriend, if she doesn’t already know, deserves to know. But I also don’t want to out him against his will.”

Redditors were quick to offer their advice, which largely boils down to “don’t do that.”

“Tell no one,” writes Waffle_Cowboy. “You don’t even know for sure as you are hearing this all second hand from a woman who may be telling you this from a vindictive place or worse still, making it all up.”

“Have a conversation about boundaries with your BF without outing his friend,” advises Mittenbae.

“Don’t forget that fiancee chose you,” writes akaioi. “It’s bad form to out someone. He may still be trying to figure out what he’s doing, and likely doesn’t need someone to force the issue.”

What do you think she should do? Give up on life? Buy a new scarf? Weigh in in the comments below.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 Gets Snatched [RECAP]

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 Gets Snatched [RECAP]

RuPaul hosts the Snatch Game of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2 drag race all stars recap

Time to separate the queens from the kweens with everyone’s favorite challenge: Snatch Game. We’re dealing with seasoned pros here, so this should have been a stellar Snatch. There were some high highs, but there were more low lows than I might’ve assumed going into this.

Let’s dish about our favorite impersonations below!

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2 Snatch Game

Before we get into the rankings, we’ve got some drama to discuss. Adore arrived the day after her harsh critique looking rough. When Ru visited the workroom, Adore threatened to leave. Ru begged her to stay, but no luck. Even Michelle Visage came a-calling to apologize for, I don’t know, JUDGING on the judging panel, but to no avail. So Adore walked before even getting her wig on for the main challenge. Bye, gurl.

DON’T MISS: ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars’ Behind the Scenes: Second Elimination

While I love this twist where the girls are sending each other home, I do not need to see the one-on-one convos before the lip sync. They are oddly cliched and stilted in a way that most reality shows are, but they are also the kind of thing this show usually satires so well. It’s just weirdly earnest, and no one actually says anything of value outside the typical reality show argle-bargle. I’d almost rather watch the other girls who are safe gossip and cluck about what they think is going to happen, what they would do in that situation, etc.

I also have a theory about these eliminated girls. Now, this is pure conjecture, but I’m thinking they are going to come back at the end Survivor-style for a final tribal council to pick the ultimate winner.

Alright, alright, let’s get down to business.

Alaska RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2

1. You know someone slayed the Snatch when they’re firing off jokes even when they’re not being featured. Alaska’s Mae West made the whole game more funny. She nailed West’s signature bawdy humor, but she still kept enough of Alaska in there to save it from being too one-note. I think the Anus singer will go down in the annals of Snatch Game herstory as one of the best. I did not think her lip sync was necessarily superior, and I want to be on the record that she has officially used up all her fake death drops for the season.

tumblr_ocum610oPw1qlvwnco5_500-2

2. Right on Alaska’s heels, Katya created a character out of the grab-bag of eccentricities that is Bjork. The Icelandic singer is sort of an easy target, but Katya kept the crazy feeling consistent while still fitting her into the Snatch Game world. Her bathing beauty latex runway look was an instant classic.

Alyssa Edwards RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2

3. Remember last week when I said Alyssa Edwards is unintentionally hilarious? Boy did that hold true this week. Don’t get me wrong, I was also cracking up whenever they flashed even the smallest glimpse of her Joan Crawford. But in terms of the actual performance, she recited some of the most obvious lines from Mommie Dearest, often completely apropos of nothing, and the voice was not quite all there. Alyssa’s choices were not great. However, Alyssa delivering these terrible choices was still entertaining, which basically sums up how I feel about her overall.

4. I actually don’t think Phi Phi was being shady when she warned Alyssa and Roxxxy about their Snatch choices. Alyssa’s Joan Crawford was too much Alyssa, and Roxxxy’s Sofia Vergara was not great. If only she could be as astute with her own character selection. She painted the Long Island Medium in broad strokes, and then repeatedly hammered the same joke about Theresa being a fraudulent psychic. It was fine, but it wasn’t great.

Ginger Minj RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2

5. Not to hate on Ginger too much, but I was really disappointed in her Tammy Faye. I’ll concede that maybe the edit didn’t give her time to shine, but I was actually most put off by her choice in wig. That wig did not scream Tammy Faye. It just felt like a very typical Ginger wig. I also felt like her runway look was heinous, which knocked her down a few pegs for me.

6. Detox’s limits were really on display here. You saw her trying so hard to be clever, and it just fell flat. Detox is often funny and biting and quick in her confessional interviews, but she just cannot write an actual joke.

Tatianna RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2

7. Look, I wasn’t thrilled by Tatianna Grande, but she had at least one or two lukewarm jokes, and that’s more than Roxxxy had. I agree that her runway look was basic and blah, but I think she did a touch better than Roxxxy’s abysmal Alaska during the main challenge.

8. Considering how well she did in her season’s Snatch, it was surprising to see Roxxxy flounder here. Every time Roxxxy reduced her Alaska character down to a shrill “Hiiiiiiii!” I cringed. It was just so obvious that was actually the best she could come up with. These girls are so neck and neck, a lackluster performance like that can send a gurl packing.

9. I still don’t quite understand what Adore’s major malfunction was. Sure Michelle was tough on her, but that’s Michelle’s whole thing. Once she rolled in the workroom looking like a “swollen baby” I was over it and ready to see her go. I was tired of the pity party. I was tired of the humble brag about her fans. I was tired of late-‘90s Limited Too choker necklace and haircut. It’s sad, but this appearance has really soured me on Adore overall.

How would you rank the queens?
