Ryan Lochte, Rachel Maddow, Barbra Streisand, American Horror Story, Gay Termites, Britney Spears: HOT LINKS
RIO HANGOVER. Brazilian police charge Ryan Lochte with false report of robbery: “A police statement Thursday says Lochte will be informed in the United States so he can decide whether to introduce a defense in Brazil. The indictment will be sent to the International Olympic Committee’s ethics commission.”
BY THE NUMBERS. Large majority of Americans support LGBT non-discrimination laws and oppose bathroom bills: “…a whopping 72% of Americans say they support laws that would protect LGBT people from being discriminated against in housing, jobs, and public accommodations. To break that down even further, 61% of Republicans support non-discrimination laws, along with 78% of Democrats.”
LAST NIGHT. Rachel Maddow interviews Trump’s newest campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway. Conway says Trump might want to come on the show. (Please let this be true).
MUSIC. Barbra Streisand and Chris Pine duet.
ALT-RIGHT. Ann Coulter really worships Trump: “My worship for him is like the people of North Korea worship their Dear Leader—blind loyalty. Once he gave that Mexican rapist speech, I’ll walk across glass for him. That’s basically it.”
LATE NIGHT. James Corden and John Krasinski recreate famous movie scenes.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? Another teaser for American Horror Story season 6.
FUNDRAISING. Matt Bomer and husband Simon Halls attend onePULSE Foundation benefit.
TELEVISION. Lifetime is making a Britney Spears biopic, reportedly without Ms. Spears’ consent.
GAY TERMITES. Do they have an evolutionary edge? “Termites not only invade people’s homes, but also the humble abodes of other happy termite couples—and male termites may pair up with their own gender to do so…”
THURSDAY THIRST. Silvério Lopes.

Gilead Accused of Overcharging for PrEP, Furthering Homophobic Assumptions About Truvada
Pharmaceutical company Gilead will not receive subsidies from Australia for its medication Truvada (aka preexposure prophylaxis or PrEP), commonly used to prevent the transmission of HIV.
A government report says that Gilead was charging an exorbitant price for the medication and was more interested in hiking up profit margins than making the drug available to all those in need of it.
The details of Gilead’s submission are not publicly available, but HIV advocates believe the company asked the government to subsidise the full retail price of the drug, which sells for around $700 a month.
They say the company also wanted to restrict access to only people with a higher risk of contracting HIV, but HIV advocates and the Department of Health both say these restrictions were unacceptable.
The application submitted by Gilead to the government also reportedly made homophobic assumptions about adherence to PrEP that are not backed up by science:
Health experts also believe the PBAC [Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Scheme] made its decision based on Gilead’s outdated assumptions about gay men’s willingness to take a pill each day.
The PBAC decision noted Truvada is most effective if taken once daily and questioned whether men who engage in “risky” sexual practices (like having sex without a condom) would be willing and able to adhere to such a regime.
But that information is contradicted by multiple studies in Australia and overseas that show extremely high adherence to PrEP by at-risk individuals.
Dr. Simon Ruth, CEO of Victorian AIDS, said,
“It is wrong and offensive to assume that gay men would not be taking every measure to protect themselves when it comes to HIV,” he said. “PrEP demonstration projects have shown gay men’s adherence to PrEP is extremely high, and comments like this are unhelpful, stigmatising, and homophobic.”

Forbidden fruit?
Julie Bracken posted a photo:
Julie is about as forbidden as fruit gets – she has a wicked smile that would knock a movie up a rating: no, she couldn’t turn it off, even if she donned a yashmak and put the cat’s dinner on her head.
She embraces life – the good, the bad and the bubbly and crushes any self-made man who worships his creator.
Content in herself, she doesn’t exercise, she figures if God had wanted her to bend over, he would have put the diamonds on the floor…

NC Gov. McCrory Launches Anti-Trans Attack Ad Amid Slide In Polls

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has said repeatedly that his concern with allowing transgender individuals to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of their choice is merely a privacy issue, not one of safety. A recent slide in the polls seems to have inspired him to change his tune to one more embracing of the politics of fear. He must be learning something from all those Trump rallies he’s been attending recently.
In a new campaign ad, a sexual assault victim is trotted out to imply a connection that is simply not there, as Charlotte‘s NPR outlet WFAE makes clear.

In fact, North Carolina good place a guard on every bathroom door checking birth certificates and it wouldn’t have made a bit of difference in this woman’s case, as she was assaulted by her brother in their home.
“At nine, I was molested by a teenager,” Gina Little says. “When I found out that President Obama and Roy Cooper want to force schoolchildren to share the same locker rooms, shower and restroom with someone who claims the opposite sex, I was horrified.”
The fact that they couldn’t find someone who was attacked by a transgender person in a locker room or bathroom, or someone using laws allowing trans people to use facilities matching their gender identity, is telling.
Finding examples of violence against trans people is much easier.
Attorney General Roy Cooper is McCrory’s challenger in the gubernatorial race. He opposes HB2, the bill McCrory signed into law, prohibiting transgender people from using bathrooms and locker rooms that do not match what is on their birth certificate in public buildings. Private businesses are allowed to set their own policies concerning the issue.
Cooper has refused to defend HB2 in court, noting that HB2 conflicts with that state Department of Justice policy and a similar one adopted by the state Treasury Department and saying he would defend the agencies against the state law.
HB2 also did away with all non-discrimination ordinances in the state, capped the minimum wage at $7.25 an hour and took away the right to sue for workplace discrimination in state court. That right has since been reinstated.

The Obama administration sent a directive to public schools instructing them to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms matching their gender identity.
This is the McCrory campaign’s Willie Horton moment, hoping he can scare people into voting for him. In so doing he has shown just how desperate, dishonest and dangerous he is willing to be in the process.

Now, a gay couple — 23-year-old Arthur Christopher Harmon and 33-year-old Nikolaos Mihail — face murder charges following the guilty plea of Cody Lewis, another man involved in the crime.
This week during a court hearing, it was revealed the thugs used the hookup app Jack’d to seduce Moyer over to their home, with the sole intention of robbing him.

As Pink News reports, Moyer wound up murdered instead.
Authorities have recovered a bloody knife, a pellet rifle, and a mop, all of which were allegedly used during the attack.
Officers told the court that the men “communicated on a website and then met up that night for a possible relationship.”
