Barbra Streisand Duets with Donald Trump and His Growling Hair: WATCH

Barbra Streisand Duets with Donald Trump and His Growling Hair: WATCH

Barbra Streisand Trump

Barbra Streisand hit the stage on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for a duet with ‘Donald Trump’.

The duet was, as might be expected, a war of egos, with both Streisand and ‘Trump’ trying to outdo one another on “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” from the Broadway classic Annie Get Your Gun.

As the duet ended, the PrimaDonald’s hair came out of place and as Streisand tried to fix it up, it growled at her.

“What am I doing here?”, she asked.

Watch:

In the rest of Barbra’s appearance (with Alec Baldwin who appears on her Encore album) she talked about how many of the duets on the album came to be, and how they were recorded. She also told the story about calling Tim Cook to ask him to get Siri to pronounce her name correctly.

More on her concerts, her Encore album, and her top 5 collaborators:

Democratic VP Nominee Tim Kaine & Rep. John Lewis to Speak at National Dinner

Democratic VP Nominee Tim Kaine & Rep. John Lewis to Speak at National Dinner

Today, HRC announced that Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee Senator Tim Kaine will deliver the keynote address at the 20th annual HRC National Dinner onSaturday, September 10, 2016, in Washington D.C. Civil rights icon and Congressman John Lewis (D-GA) will also speak at this year’s sold-out event, which will take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

“Vice Presidential Nominee Tim Kaine has spent his entire career fighting for the equal rights of all Americans,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “As part of the most pro-equality presidential ticket in American history, Tim Kaine will help ensure another four years of unprecedented progress for LGBTQ equality in this country and around the world.”

“Representative John Lewis is an American hero, and his lifelong work for the civil rights of all people has transformed our nation. In his nearly three decades on Capitol Hill, Representative Lewis has been one of the strongest and most outspoken champions of LGBTQ equality,” Griffin continued.  “With all the progress we have made under President Obama, Tim Kaine and John Lewis will remind all of us just how important it is that we fight to elect a President who will champion LGBTQ equality every single day she sits in the Oval Office. We are honored to welcome them both to our 20th annual National Dinner.”

Kaine has a strong commitment to LGBTQ equality. In addition to supporting marriage equality, Kaine is an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act — federal legislation that would finally guarantee explicit, permanent protections for LGBTQ people under our existing civil rights laws. One of Kaine’s first actionsas Virginia Governor in 2006 was to sign an executive order adding sexual orientation protections to the non-discrimination policy for state workers. Kaine also recently signed onto an amicus brief in the 2nd Circuit case, Christiansen v. Omnicom Group Inc., arguing that sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination are prohibited under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He has voted in favor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and co-sponsored the Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA).

Representative John Lewis (D-GA) will also be addressing the crowd at the September 10 event. Lewis knows the struggle for equality first hand and has been a longtime, outspoken advocate for LGBTQ civil rights. At the 2014 HRC Atlanta Gala Lewis said, “No government — state or federal — should tell a person who they can love and not love, who they can fall in love with and get married to… I will be there with you now and forever, as long as I have breath in my body.”

Lewis is a longstanding champion for LGBTQ equality. He is an original cosponsor of the bipartisan Equality Act. He has a perfect 100 rating on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard and, among other things, is also the lead sponsor of the Every Child Deserves a Family Act, which prohibits any child welfare agency receiving federal financial assistance from discriminating against any potential foster or adoptive family on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.

Donald Trump and Mike Pence have put at risk all the progress on LGBTQ equality made under President Obama. Trump has pledged to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn nationwide marriage equality, and supports vile laws like North Carolina’s HB2. Pence became a national disgrace in 2015, for his “license to discriminate” bill that could have allowed businesses to deny service to LGBTQ people — and for subsequently defending the bill after an outcry from the business community and a majority of Hoosier voters.

The 20th annual HRC National Dinner is expected to draw more than 3,600 guests. More information is available at www.hrcnationaldinner.org. Journalists looking to cover the event can request a credential by emailing [email protected]

Two Orlando hospitals will not bill survivors of the mass shooting at the LGBT nightclub Pulse in Orlando for out-of-pocket medical expenses, officials announced on Wednesday.

Orlando Health and Florida Hospital have said they will instead write off an estimated $5.5 million or more in care, the majority of that falling on Orlando Health at around $5 million in expected absorbed costs.

“The pulse shooting was a horrendous tragedy for the victims, their families and our entire community,” Orlando Health President and CEO David Strong told the Orlando Sentinel. “During this very trying time, many organizations, individuals and charities have reached out to Orlando Health to show their support. This is simply our way of paying that kindness forward.”

The shooting left 49 dead and dozens injured. Orlando Health’s main hospital, Orlando Regional Medical Center, treated 44 of the more than 50 people treated. They will also not charge the families of those who were treated but did not survive.

While Orlando Health will charge insurance companies of those with coverage, but they will take on whatever costs are not covered by those plans, said spokeswoman Kena Lewis.

Florida Hospital, which treated a dozen victims, will not even charge their insurance companies. They will also not charge for any follow-up surgeries that may be necessary.

Orlando Health said they will work with those who need follow-up surgeries.

“We can’t predict the future needs of these patients, their financial situations or what the state or federal governments may require us to do for charity policies,” Lewis said. “While we can’t assume the answer is free care forever, we will use our very generous charity and financial assistance policies to assess the best way” to help.

“It was incredible to see how our community came together in the wake of the senseless Pulse shooting,” said Daryl Tol, Florida Hospital’s president and CEO. “We hope this gesture can add to the heart and goodwill that defines Orlando.”

Survivor Mario Lopez said he was relieved to hear the news. He is uninsured and was facing a potential $200,000 bill he was not prepared to pay.

“I was so worried because I can’t afford any of that,” said Lopez, who was grazed by a bullet, with fragments exploding into his side. When he fell, he split his elbow on a shard of glass.

“I just went out for a fun night with friends. No one expected this to happen. My life was turned upside down, and then I had to worry about how I was going to pay back the hospital,” he said.

While his physical wounds are healing, he says the emotional impact stays with him.

“It’s tough,” he said. “Each day, I have my moments.”

HBCU Leaders Attend Briefing on LGBTQ Health

HBCU Leaders Attend Briefing on LGBTQ Health

Post submitted by Leslie Hall, HRC HBCU Project Manager

Last week, HRC Foundation’s Historically Black College and Universities Project convened with over 30 HBCU administrators and health and wellness staff to learn about the new innovations in LGBTQ student health and best practices.

Administrators learned from expert panels on transgender student health, providing inclusive care for LGBTQ students in campus wellness centers, and the biomedical interventions in HIV/AIDS prevention. The briefing was attended by more than seven HBCUs, community based organizations and associations.

The purpose of the the briefing was to answer the call from many HBCU administrators needing assistance and advice on providing a safe and more inclusive atmosphere for all students, especially LGBTQ students. Historically Black Colleges and Universities face a unique opportunity to become prevention leaders in the fight to end HIV/AIDS and provide competent inclusive care for LGBTQ student.

Dr. Theo Hodge, the country’s leading provider for HIV-positive black men, shared his thoughts on making campus wellness centers patient-centered and LGBTQ-inclusive. Some of the reasons  why LGBTQ students  avoid campus wellness centers to receive healthcare is because the environment is sometimes unpleasant with offensive posters, culturally uninformed staff and  the lack of privacy safeguards.

There will be an another edition of the HBCU LGBTQ Health and Wellness Briefing at HRCF’s HBCU Project’s annual HBCU Leadership Summit in November 2016. The summit was sponsored by the HRCF’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities Project in collaboration with HRCF’s HIV & Health Equity team.

DONALD TRUMP’S STOKING FIRES OF ANTI-LGBTQ HATRED: In a speech yesterday, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton laid out how Donald Trump has associated himself with a cast of hateful characters from the fringe. Just last week, Trump was endorsed by James Dobson, who founded two of the most notorious anti-equality organizations in the nation: Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council, which has since been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Said HRC President Chad Griffin, “Donald Trump has built an entire campaign based on division, fear and undermining equality. Trump has threatened to undo crucial protections for LGBTQ people in the U.S. and around the globe, and courted the votes of anti-equality extremists.” More here.

  • Reminder: Trump’s new leadership team, Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway, have a history of anti-equality rhetoric. Check it out here.

ANTI-TRANS ALL-STARS PUBLISH BIASED REVIEW OF LGBTQ “RESEARCH”: Psychiatrist Paul McHugh has described transgender people as caricatures, counterfeits, impersonators, confused and mad. Doctor and statistician Lawrence Mayer served as a $400-per-hour expert witness for North Carolina governor Pat McCrory’s defense of the state’s discriminatory HB2 law. Now, the pair have teamed up to promote their anti-LGBTQ views in The New Atlantis, a conservative policy magazine — not a peer-reviewed journal. McHugh openly mocks transgender people, Mayer couches his opinions in concern for “suffering” LGBTQ youth and adults. Neither McHugh nor Mayer have conducted original research on LGBTQ people — and neither have ever been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal about sexual orientation or gender identity. Question begging to be asked: could they even get published? More from HRC and The Daily Dot.

VERMONT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM CANCELS GAME WITH UNC OVER HB2: The University of Vermont Catamounts have canceled plans to travel to North Carolina for a basketball game against the Tar Heels, Sports Illustrated reports. In a release, the school’s athletic director says NC’s anti-LGBTQ HB2 law is the reason.

SCHOOLS IN ALABAMA LEAD THE WAY IN ENSURING BATHROOM ACCESS: In AL.com, John Sharp explores how institutions of higher learning are leading the way in Alabama when it comes to ensuring that transgender students have access to the correct facilities. As state leaders fight and defy federal guidance on the issue, administrators and students view allowing people to use restrooms consistent with their identity as simple common sense. Hopefully, through their example, “politicians can see that facility usage is no big deal,” says HRC Alabama’s Eva Kendrick.

EXPLOSION IN LGBTQ NEWSPAPER BOX INVESTIGATED AS POSSIBLE HATE CRIME: Salem, Mass., police are investigating as a possible hate crime the detonation of an explosive device in a newspaper box for the local LGBTQ publication. Gricel Ocasio, co-founder of Rainbow News, has previously filed multiple complaints about vandalism to the box. More from CBS Boston.

THE REAL REASON CORPORATIONS TAKE A STAND ON LGBTQ RIGHTS: On Fortune Insiders, HRC’s Deena Fidas writes about why America’s corporate community has taken a lead in the fight for LGBTQ equality. “They do this not just because it is the right thing to do: As Fortune 500 and other major employers have made clear, it’s also smart for business,” Fidas writes. More from Fortune Insiders.

MUST WATCH: The U.S. Department of Justice released a new training video on how to treat transgender people with respect. Watch the video and read more at The Hill.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL TRAINER IN ARKANSAS, INSPIRED BY OTHERS, COMES OUT: Rob Redding, an athletic trainer for the Henderson State University football team, shares his story in OutSports about coming out as gay to his colleagues and players. He writes, “… I am sharing this story for everyone out there to see a successful out gay man working in college athletics in the South.” Congrats, Rob!

ISIL CONTINUES INHUMANE ACTS AGAINST LGBTQ PEOPLE: In yet another gruesome public execution, ISIL militants reportedly pushed four men off of a building in Mosul, Iraq, last week after accusing them of “homosexuality and sodomy.” As is so often the case, a crowd gathered to watch the horrific display, which this time claimed the lives of two former members of ISIL. More from HRC.

ICYMI, actress and LGBTQ advocate Ellen Page visited Orlando on Viceland’s Emmy-nominated ‘Gaycation,’ and it was powerful. Page and co-host Ian Daniel spoke to survivors of the horrific shooting at Pulse nightclub on June 12, as well as friends of the 49 LGBTQ people and allies who lost their lives. They also interviewed hospital workers and advocates who worked tirelessly on that terrible night to treat and support the victims and families. More from The Daily Beast.

REVISITING TRANSGENDER SEXUAL HEALTH: Sexual health remains an integral part of overall health, including for transgender and gender-expansive people. HRC’s Safer Sex for Trans Bodies guide and yesterday’s Facebook Live detail persistent barriers to transgender sexual health. More from HRC.
