Federal Judge bans University of North Carolina from enforcing bathroom provisions of HB 2: “U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Schroeder Friday afternoon partially granted a preliminary injunction, ruling North Carolina’s ‘decades-old laws against indecent exposure, peeping, and trespass protected the legitimate and significant State interests of privacy and safety.’”

Tim Cook gave money to Republicans, including Paul Ryan: “Apple CEO Tim Cook and eight of the company’s top executives donated a combined $45,900 in June to a PAC that helps elect Republicans to Congress, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission. While contributions to both Republican and Democratic leaders are commonplace among corporate figures, it illustrates a particular paradox for Apple executives, whose company boasts LGBT-friendly ideas while top employees also help finance a business-friendly political party that is adversarial to LGBT rights.”

HLN has fired the TV doctor after making (baseless) speculations about Hillary Clinton’s health, furthering Breitbart conspiracy theories: “It was Pinksy’s second foray into the subject of Hillary Clinton’s health, and the first one ended badly, as well. In January, he made reference on-air to Clinton’s late return to the stage in a debate and cited a Breitbart News story, attributed to a “strong source,” suggesting that it was due to “a flare-up of problems from” a “brain injury.” In fact, she had only visited the restroom.”

BREAKING: Judge Blocks UNC From Enforcing Discriminatory Provision of Anti-LGBTQ HB2 Law

Today, HRC and Equality NC, the statewide organization working to secure equal rights and justice for LGBTQ North Carolinians, hailed the decision by a federal judge to suspend enforcement of one of the discriminatory provisions of North Carolina’s HB2 law until plaintiffs have an opportunity to fully make their case in court. U.S. District Judge Thomas Schroeder blocked the University of North Carolina (UNC) from enforcing the provision which prevents transgender people from using restrooms and other facilities consistent with their gender identity on UNC property.

“Even though UNC had already stated its intention not to enforce HB2, Judge Schroeder’s decision to block the deeply discriminatory provision guarantees that the student plaintiffs will not face negative consequences when exercising their right to use restrooms consistent with their gender identity,” said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow. “Instead of wasting tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars trying to defend the indefensible, Governor McCrory and state lawmakers should be working towards fully repealing HB2. They should be spending time working on improving education and growing jobs, not defending HB2 and inflicting further harm on the people, reputation, and economy of North Carolina.”

“Today’s decision is an important step towards rectifying the harm HB2 has done to North Carolina — specifically the LGBTQ people that call North Carolina home,” said Equality NC Director of Advancement Matt Hirschy. “Judge Schroeder’s decision confirms that HB2 is a blatant attack on the transgender community. The preliminary injunction will provide much-needed relief to the brave plaintiffs, and we are confident that this is just the beginning in an unfortunately long journey towards a full repeal of the worst anti-LGBTQ law in the nation.”

While the University had declared that they did not intend to enforce the provisions of HB2 that would put UNC in violation of its own non-discrimination policies as well as federal civil rights law, they then faced flagrant violation of state law, which could have adverse consequences on precisely the students the University was trying to protect.

In the reasoning for issuing the injunction, Judge Schroeder wrote, “Unless and until UNC openly defies the law, the signs that UNC posts on its bathrooms, showers, and other similar facilities render transgender individuals who use facilities that match their gender identities trespassers, thus exposing them to potential punishment (certainly by other authorities, if not by UNC). In addition, if the trespasser is a student, he or she is subject to discipline under one of UNC’s student codes of conduct, which generally prohibit students from violating federal, State, or local laws.”

This preliminary injunction is an early step in a complex case that brings equal protection claims and due process claims, in addition to the allegations that HB2 violates Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

In the more than five months since Governor McCrory and state lawmakers rammed HB2 into law, the economic fallout has continued to grow as companies concerned with protecting their consumers and employees have moved conventions, trainings, operations, productions, and other events out of state. With a recent decision by the NBA to move the 2017 All-Star Game out of the state due to the hostile environment created by HB2, the Tar Heel State lost out on an estimated 100 million dollars in All-Star Game related profits, on top of the at least $329.9 million already lost in business and taxpayer funds used to defend the discriminatory measure. The economic consequences of HB2 continue to mount, and more than 200 major CEOs and business leaders have signed an open letter calling for full repeal of HB2, including many of North Carolina’s largest employers.

Despite the widespread opposition to HB2, the North Carolina General Assembly adjourned its short session in July after refusing to repeal the law, and it is not scheduled to reconvene until January — leaving tens of thousands of people at risk of discrimination and harm over the months to come. Making only one tweak to the law, the General Assembly has been unwilling to even consider repealing the substance of HB2, including its provision targeting transgender people, and its removal of municipalities’ ability to pass LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination laws and minimum wage ordinances.

To date, there are five separate legal cases surrounding HB2. In May, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed its own suit in federal court, stating that HB2’s state-mandated discrimination against transgender people, including government workers and students, violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1965, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the Violence Against Women Act of 2011. Joined by 68 major companies, HRC filed an amicus brief in support of DOJ’s effort to block some of the most egregious and discriminatory components of HB2.

Donald Trump took part in some master projection recently by claiming that Hillary Clinton is a bigot. It is all part of his attempt to convince African Americans that he is somehow going to do better by their community than will Clinton, implying they all live in poverty and have nothing to lose anyway. Wow, what a pitch!

The Clinton campaign is hitting back with a new campaign ad titled “Everything.”

That is the answer offered up to his question, “What the hell do you have to lose?”

The ad uses Trump’s own words against him, as well as highlighting his past of allegedly not renting to black people. The case was settled out of court.

What It’s Like To Be A Gay, Insultingly Handsome Fraternity Brother

An anonymous man who goes by the moniker Humorlessness has taken to Reddit in search of alllll those gay frat brothers out there, and his question is deceptively straightforward:

Gay Fraternity brothers? how do you not make it incredibly awkward?

He elucidates thus:

So, fraternities seem to be the type of environment that is very open to heterosexuality and machismo. A lot of times, this is how brothers relax. For example, many frat brothers feel comfortable relating their casual sex experiences to each other, and it isn’t a big deal. Do gay frat members do this type of thing with their straight brothers (Or only with their gay brothers?) Are their straight brothers receptive to this type of talk about gay sex? What about formals or other occasions where you would bring dates? Would sex be awkward to even consider mentioning on occasions like these? It would seem to me that it’s incredibly awkward to bond with your brothers if you don’t even talk about these things with each other. How do you manage to make it work?

Then, like (unverifiable) magic, the answers spewed forth, and they aren’t the horror stories you’d expect — i.e, duct-tape disasters, being unceremoniously dropped during first keg-stand, etc.

“As far as how my relationship with the straight brothers was,” writes Chahmeleons, “I’d say it was 98% positive. I could joke around with them and was just one of the guys.”

The other two percent, well… There was one brother who always felt like he was going out of his way to show acceptance and I wish he would have just chilled out. It got to the point where every joke he made when we hung out referenced my sexuality. Nothing offensive, exactly the opposite in fact. But it kept me from feeling like I was just his friend and rather his “gay friend”.

“The guys never felt uncomfortable about me being with a guy,” pepperMD writes, “and there were a couple of guys in the recent history of the fraternity that were much more promiscuous and flamboyant than myself.”

One time I came to a meeting with huge hickeys across my neck, and a couple of guys were doing the normal joshing (“what happened there?” “Looks like someone had a good night!”) And my response was “You should see the other guy!” They loved it.”

Because it’s 2016 and the world is changing in ways we can’t explain, there don’t appear to be any terrifying tales of discrimination or fervid homophobia at all. At least, not yet.

In its place, there’s some friendly advise to alll those aspiring gay fraternity bros out there:

“This is gonna sound kinda dumb,” says What_Is_ETT, “but find a fraternity with a lot of science majors or with a reputation for being nerdy. I find they tend to be more accepting than the bro ones, worked for me. I found out the president and asked him a bunch of questions, and let him know that if there was ever any hazing i would back out. He told me there wasn’t and he didn’t lie to me.”

‘Christian Warrior’ Arrested for Threatening Terrorist Attack Against ‘Gays, Faggots, Lesbians’ – WATCH

A Las Vegas man has been charged with making terrorist threats after he posted a video online in which he promised to take down the government and kill gay people.

KTNV reports:

In the video, a [24-year-old] man named Bryce Cuellar reportedly showed off two rifles and was wearing a military flak vest and night vision goggles.

Cuellar reportedly said in the video that he is tired of the government trying to take away his First and Second Amendment rights and says that he cannot wait to use his rifle in the manner in which the founding fathers intended.

He also said that he wanted to kill “gays, faggots, lesbians and satanists” and claimed to be a Christian warrior. Cuellar also said that he is tired of America and would begin killing soon.

The video was posted earlier this summer.

According to authorities, Cuellar had also posted about the Orlando shooting on his Facebook.

The video was brought to the attention of Las Vegas police by INTERPOL who were notified about the video by Google on July 2. Google had removed the video by the time police went to investigate but were given a copy of the video to watch for the purpose of their investigation.

Police reportedly recognized Cuellar immediately as they had been monitoring him for the past three years. Authorities say he has become increasingly radicalized over the years.

The video contained enough damning material for police to press charges. Cuellar was indicted on Wednesday of this week.

The Las Vegas Sun reports:

He is to face one felony count each of making threats or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism, conspiracy to commit a crime, and one misdemeanor of attempting to destroy evidence. […]

In an interview, Cuellar told detectives he “screwed up with the video” and that he was angry, and drunk from consuming substantial amounts of beer in a 30-minute span, but that he was not a murderer, the report said. His wife, also booked at the Clark County Detention Center that day, provided little assistance in the investigation.

In addition to this video, Cuellar has also made other hateful videos targeting and attacking gay people. As journalist JJ MacNab points out, these video have helped Cuellar amass over 160,000 subscribers and rack up millions of views–no small feat, as any YouTuber will tell you.

Many of the videos Cuellar created aggregated news clips from anti-gay “news” sources like the Christian Broadcasting Network and Alex Jones’ InfoWars.

Cuellar titled one video, “Africa OWNS Obama!! ‘Keep Your GAY Talk In America’!! 2016.” The description for that video read, “Africa warns Obama ‘We don’t welcome homosexuality, keep your gay talk in America.’ This is great. God bless Gods people in Africa!! This is great because the libtards can’t use the racist card.”

In another video titled, “CENSORED!! ‘End Of USA’ Illuminati Gay Agenda Destroying America!! 2015″, Cueller uses titled cards to declare that SCOTUS has “illegally passe[d] gay marriage nationwide” and that the “persecution of Christians in the USA” is about to begin. He adds, “Fag ‘rights’ is being used as a trojan horse to persecute those who live for Yahweh/Yeshua.”

The description for the video reads, “Say goodbye to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and say hello to the persecution of the people of God. Welcome to Satans America where God is cast out, and demons are brought in. Light is exchanged for darkness, evil is good, and good is now evil. America is now a ticking time bomb…..Gods wrath is on the land. Just watch my ‘End of the world as we know it’ video.”
