Former Corbin Fisher model turned CNN producer Matt Null died earlier this week while on vacation in Barcelona.

According to Str8UpGayPorn, Null got his start in adult entertainment 12 years ago, appearing in scenes as “Austin” on Corbin Fisher from 2004-2005. He later went on to work as a producer for “On the Record With Greta Van Susteren” at Fox News before becoming a senior producer at CNN.

Null had been working for the network’s morning show, “Early Start,” for the past three years. On Wednesday, the show’s anchor, Christine Romans, shared the news with viewers.

“It is with a heavy heart that we report tragic news of one of our own this morning,” a teary-eyed Romans said. “A cause of death has not been revealed.”

“He is literally the voice in our head every morning. When terrible things happen around the world, he is the one who brings it to you with calm and fairness,” she added. “He is someone who really made a difference in the world through his job.”

The cause of Null’s death has not yet been released. He was 34 years old.

Pat McCrory Calls NBA Decision to Pull All-Star Game ‘Politically-Correct Hypocrisy Gone Mad’

Pat McCrory Calls NBA Decision to Pull All-Star Game ‘Politically-Correct Hypocrisy Gone Mad’

nba

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory on Friday blasted the NBA for pulling its 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte over the the state’s anti-LGBT ‘bathroom bill’ HB 2.

Earlier in the day, the NBA announced that New Orleans would be the new host of the All-Star Game after North Carolina legislators failed to make significant changes to HB 2.

McCrory’s Communications Director Josh Ellis released a statement on his behalf. Ellis and McCrory criticized the NBA for pulling the game from North Carolina when it plays in games in China, a country with an abominable record on human rights.

Said Ellis, “According to his own statements, Commissioner [Adam] Silver has no credibility in telling America that he’s more ‘comfortable’ playing a basketball game in the People’s Republic of China with its oppressive human rights record, rather than the 9th most populous state in the U.S.A.”

Ellis added of the NBA’s decision, “This is another classic example of politically-correct hypocrisy gone mad. We are proud that Louisiana has joined 21 other states that are fighting for basic privacy expectations for our children and families in school restrooms, locker rooms and shower facilities.”

McCrory has previously called the NBA’s decision “total PC BS.”

The Daily Show Finds Out If Trump Supporters Would Pass ‘Extreme Vetting’ Gay Rights Test – WATCH

extreme vetting gay rights

The Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper went to a Donald Trump rally to find out if Trump supporters would pass the “extreme vetting” that Trump proposed for immigrants coming to the U.S.

As previously reported, Donald Trump says Muslim immigrants must be able to prove that they support equal rights for women and gays in order to be allowed in to the country.

But is support for equal rights for women and gays even popular among Republicans?

Klepper put Trump-ers to the test. He asked one man to finish this sentence: “Gay marriage is ________.” His answer? “Disgusting.” “Actually the answer is legal in the United States,” Klepper responded. To which the man retorted, “It’s legal but I don’t like it.”

Another woman said gay couples shouldn’t have the same rights as heterosexual couples. “I don’t think it’s fair,” she said. “The regular couple they worked so hard. And the gay couple wants more.” Klepper interjected, “When you say more, do you mean equal?” “Yeah,” she answered.

And it turns out, Trump rallies aren’t exactly bastions of feminist support. Or just clear-headed thinking in general.

Watch, below.

Alpha Delta Pi sorority

If sororities and fraternities scare you, this viral video isn’t going to make you feel any better.

What was intended as a recruitment video by the heads of sorority Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Texas at Austin ended up being a terrifying display of, um, sisterhood?

Via The Cut:

As an introduction, three young women — Maddie, Haley, and Jean-Marie — stand at the formidable doors of their sorority house. They’ve been waiting for you. They fling the doors open, revealing a room packed to the brim with screaming sorority sisters. Their screams will haunt you, but not as much as their wiggling fingers, their manic chants, and the disembodied arms clapping in the background.

Scariest shit I’ve ever seen on twitter pic.twitter.com/XejVxn2lwB

— ITSBIZKIT (@itsbizkit) August 18, 2016

In case the original isn’t terrifying enough, someone remixed the video depicting the super awesome super peppy super spirited sorority gals opening the gates of hell. Actually, that’s pretty much what the original feels like too.

ALL-STAR GAME. NBA chooses New Orleans for 2017 All-Star game after moving from Charlotte over North Carolina’s discriminatory HB 2. “Unlike several other Southern states, Louisiana has not been swept up in legislative efforts to pass laws similar to that in North Carolina – a fact Gov. John Bel Edwards has touted while lobbying the NBA to bring its All-Star weekend to New Orleans for a third time.”

2016 ELECTION. Why isn’t Trump tweeting about the Olympics? “The spectacle of America vanquishing its global rivals is—ironically, amazingly—utterly terrible for the ‘America First’ candidate. A big part of his political message, the one you hear at his stump speeches, is that America has grown weak. America doesn’t win anymore, he says. “Crippled America” is the title of his most recent book. He alone can Make American Great Again. As someone who’s been around a few campaigns, believe me: The Olympics is about the worst thing that could have happened to the Trump train.”

Bill ClintonCLINTON FOUNDATION. If Hillary wins, they’ll stop accepting foreign and corporate donations: “Should Clinton win the White House in November, the foundation will accept donations only from U.S. citizens and independent charities, The Associated Press first reported. Former President Bill Clinton told staffers about the change during a meeting in which he also announced that the Clinton Global Initiative will hold its final annual meeting next month and that he will resign from the foundation’s board, the spokesman confirmed.”

KATRINA PIERSON. Trump spokeswoman claims Hillary has brain disease: “Trump has long claimed that Clinton lacks the physical stamina to be president and has stated repeatedly that she takes weekends off to catch up on her sleep. But Trump and his campaign have not directly engaged with conspiracy theories, circulated on ultra-right wing blogs and talk shows, that Clinton’s health is badly deteriorating and that the media is complicit in a cover-up.  There is no evidence to back those claims up and Clinton’s physician, Dr. Lisa Bardack, has repeatedly stated that the former secretary of State is fit to serve. ”

RURAL SUMMIT. Iowa confab looks at how to make life better for LGBT people in rural Iowa. “There weren’t gay people that you knew of,” Bryan Huff recalled of his days growing up in Madison County, “In fact, you didn’t know what ‘gay’ was. You just think, well, you have feelings. You just think all these people have feelings. Obviously, you’re not supposed to express them, because no one else does.”

logoIt’s hard to believe that Rio 2016 has other news other than LochteGate and his apology. But, no worries. We got you covered.

Athletes woke up to a hot and sunny day in Rio yesterday. At 11am, 56 men ran across the sands of Copacabana into the water of the famous beach as the Olympic men’s triathlon got officially underway.

After a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km, and exactly one hour, 45 minutes and one second later, favorite Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain crossed the finish line, becoming the first triathlete to defend his Olympic title. Six seconds later, his brother Johnny Brownlee — bronze in London 2012 — joined him, and won the silver.

“We’ve done it,” one of them said – before they grabbed each other’s hands.

In a thrilling final at the men’s field hockey tournament, Argentina — or Los Leones — played Belgium and won the gold with a 4-2 victory.

Los Leones have always been the sideshow to the acclaimed women’s side, Las Leonas, who medaled at the previous four Olympics. But the Leonas never won Olympic gold, reported the Associated Press.

We were very happy to see the team celebrating right after the match. But it was even better to see their celebration when they got to the locker room.

American Ashton Eaton won decathlon gold and became the third man to retain the title, after Great Britain’s Daley Thompson and US’s Bob Mathias.

“To win two Olympic golds in a row like Daley Thompson is very special,” the 28-year-old told reporters after the win. “One day, I’m going to have to meet Daley, shake his hand and thank him for giving me something to chase after.”

Kevin Mayer of France took the silver, and Damian Warner of Canada won the bronze.

Usain Bolt won the 200m final — his eighth gold medal — and he’s now just one gold away to reach his “triple triple” goal: winning the gold for the 100m, the 200m and the 4X100m races, in three Olympic games.

He certainly gets a gold medal for confidence (and possibly the very last place in modesty.)

In a dramatic women’s 4x100m relay Team USA dropped the baton, Brazil and China were disqualified and the four Americans ran the race again, hours later, by themselves.

During the second leg of the race, Allyson Felix was about to hand off the baton to teammate  English Gardner when a Brazilian runner inadvertently touched her on the elbow. Felix tripped, and the baton was dropped.

Team USA protested after the race, and the women were allowed to run again in the evening. They did, their time qualified them for the final, but disqualified China, which occupied the final position.

In men’s beach volleyball, Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt of Brazil overcame pouring rain in Rio and beat Italy 2-0 to win the gold medal.

During the second set Italy had a 4-point lead, but Brazil was able to equalize the score at 14-14 and Cerutti’s “monster block” helped the duo close the deal. It was way past midnight when the crowd in the packed arena — drenched from the pouring rain — went wild.

It was Brazil’s second gold medal in men’s beach volleyball since Athens in 2004.

‘We Were Bullies’: Former Gawker Employee Speaks Out

‘We Were Bullies’: Former Gawker Employee Speaks Out

gawker bullies

A former Gawker employee is speaking out about working for the soon-to-be defunct site, saying that Gawker was responsible for bullying but also, in his opinion, responsible for holding public officials accountable.

Joshua David Stein (above left) worked for Gawker in its early years after first being approached by founder Nick Denton (above right) about running a site for gay men. When Stein revealed that he wasn’t gay, Denton decided to place him at Gawker instead.

PREVIOUSLY: Gawker.com Announces End of Operations After 14 Years in Business

Writing an opinion piece for The Guardian, Stein sums up his experience thus: “I was callow, it was unkind, and together we did some pretty ignoble things.” Yet he adds, “So why am I sad to hear that after 14 long years, Gawkerdämmerung is nigh?”

Stein says he worked for Gawker for only little more than a year for a multitude of reasons but “mostly because what I discovered after a year was that Gawker was fertile ground for many things – ego, fame, alacrity, wit, a quick turn of phrase – but kindness was not one of them.”

Of Gawker’s particular brand of unkindness, and his role propelling it, Stein says:

“Now, it is not for the media to be kind or likable. And Gawker, up until its demise, was rarely confused with being either. However, when you’d run into the people you had mocked, the cost of being neither was tangible. There is no mistaking fear for affection – though as a young man, I am ashamed to admit I preferred the former to the latter.

What made the dynamic even more icky is how symbiotic the relationship between the gawker and the gawked became. Fameballs, as we called them, relied on us for publicity; and we on them, for material. But it didn’t mask the fact that we were – though righteous – bullies.”

Yet Stein insists that more often than not Gawker erred on the side of taking aim at public figures rather than private citizens: “Between 2007 and 2016, Gawker has much more frequently stuck its thumb in the eye of powerful public figures than it has given noogies to private citizens.”

RELATED: Internet Turns on Gawker After Gossip News Site Attempts to Out High Profile Media Executive

But at the end of the day, Stein says he and both Gawker were bullies, despite any redeeming qualities it may have had. He writes, “…the Gawker of which I was a part did nothing noble. We were big fish in a little pond; I was young, calling phonies phoney, blind to the fact that I had become a bully. That does not mean, however, that Gawker didn’t go on to do great and important things, and it does not mean it will not be missed.”

Stein added on Twitter, “We were bullies at Gawker but at least we held the powerful to account.”

#FlashbackFriday: HRC Honors Past Out Olympians

#FlashbackFriday: HRC Honors Past Out Olympians

With a record number of out athletes at the Olympics this year, it’s clear that LGBTQ visibility has increased in the sports world. However, these wins have come from hard fought battles and brave visibility from athletes in the past.

As HRC celebrates and supports this year’s out Olympians, we recognize that there are no openly transgender athletes competing in the Olympic Games in Rio.

While the 2016 Olympic Games soon come to a close, we cannot forget those who’ve paved the way for these athletes to live openly and authentically. These Olympians proudly spoke out about who they are, both on and off the field of competition, setting an example for LGBTQ youth and people around the globe.

Here are several out Olympians who made history:

Billie Jean King, former World Number 1 Tennis Player, won 39 Grand Slams during her tennis career. King fought for equality throughout her career. She was designated as part of the U.S. delegation to Sochi and was proud to be an openly gay delegate.

Greg Louganis won four gold medals for diving, two in 1984 and two in 1988, as he became the only male diver in Olympic history to sweep the diving events in consecutive Olympic Games. Louganis is openly gay and HIV-positive and has been a long-time supporter of HRC. We thank him for his activism for the LGBTQ community.

Belle Brockhoff, came out in 2013 ahead of the Olympic Games in Sochi. For fear of her safety, the Australian snowboarder did not speak out about Russia’s anti-LGBTQ laws during the Games.

Anastasia Bucsis competed as a speed skater for Team Canada during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and 2014 Sochi Olympics. She came out before the Sochi Games.

Daniela Iraschko competed as a ski jumper for the Australian team and took home a silver medal in the 2014 Sochi Games. She and her partner married in 2013.

Cheryl Maas, a Dutch snowboarder, married former snowboarder Stine Brun Kjedlaas and the couple have two children together. Maas competed in the 2006 Turin Olympics as well as the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Sanne van Kerkhof competed as a Dutch speed skater in the 2010 and 2014 Olympics. She was outspoken about Russia’s anti-LGBTQ legislation before the Sochi Olympics.

Ireen Wüst, also a Dutch speed skater, competed in three Olympic Games, including Sochi. She won two gold and three silver medals at the Sochi Games.

Barbara Jezeršek, a Slovenian cross-country skier, competed in 2010 and 2014. She was outspoken about conditions in Sochi as well.

Lisa Raymond has won 11 Grand Slam titles as a U.S. tennis player. She took home the bronze medal in the 2012 Olympics.

Judith Arndt is a German cyclist who has competed in five Olympic Games. She has earned two silver and one bronze medal in these Games.

Natalie Cook is a beach volleyball player and earned gold and bronze medals for Australia. She has competed in five Olympic Games and traveled to Rio as a member of the Athletic Services Team.

Abby Wambach is a two time Olympic gold medalist with the U.S. women’s soccer team. She came out in 2013.

Lori Lindsey came out in 2012, and played soccer for the U.S. Women’s National Team as an alternate in the 2012 Olympic Games and in the 2011 World Cup.

#AM_Equality Tip Sheet: August 19, 2016

#AM_Equality Tip Sheet: August 19, 2016

ON EVE OF CHARLOTTE PRIDE, HRC JOINS EQUALITY NORTH CAROLINA TO ENDORSE ROY COOPER FOR GOVERNOR: One day after Donald Trump campaigned in North Carolina, and on the eve of Charlotte Pride, HRC and Equality North Carolina have joined to endorse Roy Cooper for Governor. From HRC’s Chad Griffin: “Roy Cooper is a stalwart advocate for LGBTQ equality and a proven leader who will work to make the Tar Heel State inclusive and welcoming for all. Day after day, Pat McCrory has continued his reckless defense of the discriminatory HB2 with disregard for the very real harm inflicted on the people, reputation and economy of North Carolina. As governor, Roy Cooper will work to repeal HB2, stand up for common decency and fight to pass statewide, LGBTQ-inclusive, non-discrimination protections. The choice this election couldn’t be clearer. And we are proud to endorse Roy Cooper for Governor so that each and every LGBTQ person across North Carolina can finally live free from fear of discrimination.” More here.

  • Meanwhile, Trump and McCrory joined at the hip: The Charlotte Observer notes that Donald Trump’s association with Pat McCrory is causing backlash for both campaigns, “…former state Sen. Malcolm Graham held a news conference to denounce Gov. Pat McCrory for supporting Trump. McCrory is an honorary chair of Trump’s Charlotte fundraiser. McCrory has appeared with Trump before, most recently at last week’s rally in Wilmington. ‘Gov. McCrory has shown his true colors,’ said Graham, who appeared on behalf of McCrory’s Democratic opponent, Roy Cooper, and the state Democratic Party.” More here.

NBA MOVES 2017 ALL-STAR GAME TO NEW ORLEANS DUE TO NC’s ANTI-LGBTQ HB2 LAW: According to a report from The Associated Press, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is moving the 2017 All-Star Game away from North Carolina to New Orleans, LA — a city with explicit LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination protections. Citing the hostile environment created by North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law, and after repeated warnings the league would move the event if the law remained on the books, the NBA recently announced it was moving the game out of Charlotte after state lawmakers failed to repeal the measure. “By moving the 2017 All-Star Game to New Orleans, the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver have sent a clear message to lawmakers in North Carolina and across the country that discrimination against LGBTQ people has consequences and will not be tolerated,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “New Orleans’ explicit LGBTQ non-discrimination protections will ensure all NBA employees, players, and fans who participate in the All-Star Game are protected from discrimination. Governor Pat McCrory and state lawmakers should use this as an opportunity to halt their assault on the people, reputation, and economy of North Carolina, and work toward replacing HB2 with commonsense non-discrimination protections. We look forward to the day when all North Carolinians can live their lives free from discrimination, and Charlotte is able to welcome back the All-Star Game.” More from The Associated Press.

JUDGE SETS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PRECEDENT WITH RULING SAYING FEDERAL RFRA CAN BE USED AS EXCUSE TO FIRE A TRANSGENDER WOMAN: A federal judge in Michigan ruled in favor of a Detroit-based funeral home who fired a transgender employee due to her gender identity. U.S. District Court Judge Sean Cox ruled that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) could be used as a defense in a sex discrimination claim under Title VII — exempting the employer from Title VII’s non-discrimination requirements. “This is a reckless ruling against a woman who was fired simply because she is transgender,” said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow. “Judge Cox’s deeply disappointing decision has the possibility of setting an incredibly dangerous precedent that purported religious beliefs can be used as an excuse to violate non-discrimination laws. It has the potential of opening a Pandora’s box of discrimination against a wide range of vulnerable communities. We are incredibly concerned about the implications.” More from HRC and Politico.

SAN ANTONIO MAYOR SPEAKS OUT AGAINST ANTI-LGBTQ BILLS: With the NCAA setting stricter non-discrimination measures for potential host cities of marquee events, San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor is working to protect her city’s LGBTQ non-discrimination laws. This week, Taylor spoke out against Texas lawmakers’ efforts to pass discriminatory HB2-style bills as San Antonio prepares to host the 2018 Final Four. The association recently announced that cities bidding to host championship games must submit a survey detailing their non-discrimination laws and policies. More from Towleroad.

TRANS WOMAN IN QUEENS ATTACKED WITH HAMMER: Early this morning, a transgender woman was attacked with a hammer in Queens, NY. Police sources say the attacker shouted anti-LGBTQ sentiment during his attack. The attacker fled the scene, and no arrests have been made. The woman is being treated in a local hospital. More from PIX 11.

LOVE THY NEIGHBOR: United Methodist Women, the largest denominational faith organization for women, have come out against North Carolina’s HB2, opting to move its upcoming leadership trainings out of North Carolina in protest. The organization’s CEO said the decision was a matter of justice: “In 1942 our predecessors stood against racial segregation and moved the Assembly from St. Louis, Missouri, to Columbus, Ohio, so that black and white members could stay in the same hotels. Today’s decision is a current application of the same principle, caring for all our members, paying attention to where and how we spend their Mission Giving and standing with those who are oppressed.” More from Religion News Service.

OLYMPIAN HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR GLOBAL LGBTQ ADVOCACY: Tom Bosworth wants to help LGBTQ athletes from countries with anti-LGBTQ records, noting that many athletes remain closeted while competing out of fear of persecution in their home countries. The British Olympian made headlines earlier this week by proposing to his boyfriend. More from BuzzFeed.

  • This affects our children: International Business Times shares how LGBTQ representation at the Olympics could influence policies that prevent transgender children from playing sports on teams aligned with their gender identity.

SETTLEMENT REACHED IN TRANS EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION CASE: Faye Seidler and Sanford Medical Center have reached a settlement in the discrimination lawsuit brought by Seidler after she was discriminated against in the workplace. Reportedly she was denied access to facilities consistent with her gender identity. More from The Associated Press.
