Q. How do you think your style incorporates/blends elements of your African and LGBTQ identity?

“Just recently I have been trying to incorporate more of my African heritage into my attire. Access to African elements from my heritage has always been a challenge living in the ‘great white north’. Besides the occasional gifts from my grandma from Kenya I really didn’t have much to go on. This past year I have had the opportunity to live and work in East Africa and have collected items along the way. I try to mix different elements into both my professional and casual wear.

Given the right circumstances, I like to flirt with aspects of femininity and masculinity. I like subtle accents like a dangly earring on one ear with the occasional application of eyeliner, and accent (s) of colour.”

About Limit(less)
Limit(less) is a photography project by Mikael Owunna (@owning-my-truth) documenting the fashion and style of LGBTQ African Immigrants (1st and 2nd generation) in diaspora. As LGBTQ Africans, we are constantly told that being LGBTQ is somehow “un-African,” and this rhetoric is a regular part of homophobic and transphobic discourse in African communities. This line of thinking, however, is patently false and exists an artifact of colonization of the African continent. Identities which would now be categorized as “LGBTQ” have always existed, and being LGBTQ does not make us “less” African.

Limit(less) explores how LGBTQ African immigrants navigate their identities and find ways to overcome the supposed “tension” between their LGBTQ and African identities through their fashion and style. The project seeks to visually deconstruct the colonial binary that has been set up between LGBTQ and African identities, which erases the lives and experiences of LGBTQ Africans. ‪#‎LimitlessAfricans‬

Greco-Roman Wrestling at the Rio Olympics Is Everything We Wanted and More: EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS

Greco-Roman Wrestling at the Rio Olympics Is Everything We Wanted and More: EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS

w09

As we reported yesterday, Rio 2016’s wrestling tournament started this week.

For the first three days — Sunday to Tuesday — athletes competed in the Greco-Roman discipline, which is a style where wrestlers can use their arms and upper-bodies to bring their opponents down, and they are not allowed to grapple below the waist.

Only men can participate in the Greco-Roman events, and there are six weight classes: 59kg, 66kg, 75kg, 74kg, 85kg, 98kg and 130kg.

So far, Cuba leads the wrestling medal board (with 2 gold and 1 silver), followed by Russia (2 gold, 1 bronze) and Armenia (1 gold, 1 silver).

Women’s freestyle fights are happening today and tomorrow, and the men are back for the last three days of competitions — Friday to Sunday — for men’s freestyle. It’s quite a way to end the Olympic games.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out any of the fights, here are some photographs to make you wish you had.

Trump Adviser Denies that Donald is Down in the Polls: ‘Says Who?’ – WATCH

Trump Adviser Denies that Donald is Down in the Polls: ‘Says Who?’ – WATCH

Screen Shot 2016-08-17 at 2.45.18 PM

Trump counsel Michael Cohen refused to acknowledge on Wednesday that Donald Trump is getting, to use a Trumpism, schlonged by Hillary Clinton in the polls.

In an interview with CNN’s Brianna Keilar about the campaign shakeup that saw the installment of two anti-LGBT right-wing politicos as the leaders of the Trump campaign, Cohen denied that the staff reshuffling was in fact anything “dramatic” or newsworthy.

When Keilar told Cohen, “You guys are down,” Cohen interrupted, asking, “Says who?” His response sounded almost perfectly like one you might hear from a character in Goodfellas.

Astounded, Keilar responded back, “Polls. Most of them. All of them.”

After what seemed an interminably long awkward silence between them, Cohen again asked, “Says who?” Keilar retorted again, “Polls. I just told you. I just answered your question.”

Cohen then questioned, “Which polls?” “All of them,” Keilar said. Cohen finally closed the repartee by saying rather bizarrely, “Okay, and your question is?”

More from The Hill:

Earlier in the interview, Cohen slammed the way the network was covering the news Wednesday about the Trump campaign’s staff shakeup.

“There’s no shakeup. Look at the words that you use and you blast at the bottom of your banner. Shakeup, overhaul, dramatic, desperate measures. There are no desperate measures,” Cohen said on CNN.

“These terms are not indicative of what’s going on at the campaign. All that Mr. Trump has done is he has added to the existing group of winners that he has hired for the campaign.”
