Brazilians Are All Over Olympic Wrestling, Rio 2016’s Sexiest and Most ‘Primal’ Sport: VIDEO

wresting

This week the wrestling tournament started at Rio 2016 bringing together 353 athletes from 68 countries who will compete in 21 olympic wresting events in two different disciplines: freestyle, for both men and women, and Greco-Roman, only for men.

According to the Rio 2016 official website, the athletes’ goal is to force their opponent’s shoulders on to the mat, in a fascinating mix of primal hand-to-hand combat and complex tactics, where technique, stamina and brute strength are all on display.

Oh, my.

Social media in Brazil didn’t quite know how to handle such “primal hand-to-hand combat,” and the hashtag #lutaolimpica (olympic wrestling) was born. Here are some of our early favorites:

Matt Dallas and Blue Hamilton Share Things Gay Husbands Do – WATCH

Since getting hitched and starting a family with their adopted son Crow, actor Matt Dallas and singer/songwriter Blue Hamilton have been sharing their adventures in married life and fatherhood on their YouTube channel “matt + blue.”

One of their latest videos, is all about the adorkable things that gay husbands and dads sometimes do. For instance: sharing an underwear drawer, inadvertently dressing almost identically, having the same taste in guys at the gym, sharing clippers (that probably shouldn’t be shared), and being mistaken for twins, to name some of the highlights.

Watch below to find out more things that these gay husbands and fathers do.

The Legendary Ms. Britney Spears Is Returning to the VMAs – VIDEO

The Legendary Ms. Britney Spears Is Returning to the VMAs – VIDEO

Britney Spears has announced that she will be performing at this year’s VMAs. It will be the first time Spears has performed at the VMAs in 9 years.

Spears made the announcement in a video shared on social media on Tuesday.

In the video, a yellow python slithers through an ominously lit dressing room belong to Ms. Spears as Britney says,

“The VMAs don’t just give you a stage. They give you a story. It’s a way of taking a fraction of a second and making it live forever. Before you know it, it’s history. Before you know it. It’s Britney, bitch.”

The python is of course an allusion to the famous yellow python Banana with whom Spears danced with while performing “Slave 4 U” at the VMAs in 2001.

Spears’ last performance at the VMAs was in 2007 when she performed “Gimme More” to less than rave reviews. However, prior to that, Spears turned out a series of history-making VMA performances of “Oops I Did It Again” and that three way kiss with Madonna and Christina Aguilera.

Spears will be performing “Make Me”, the first track she released off her upcoming album “Glory,” when she takes the VMA stage again on August 28.

HRC Alabama Prepares for National Voter Registration Day

HRC Alabama Prepares for National Voter Registration Day

By HRC Alabama Field Organizer Tori Wolfe-Sisson

The general election in November will be the first presidential election since the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County v. Holderwhich invalidated a key provision in the Voting Rights Act (VRA).

HRC’s Legal Director Sarah Warbelow explained:

“The VRA has been hailed as one of the most important pieces of American legislation – a true Congressional landmark. Banning racial discrimination in voting, it ensured that state and municipal governments were prohibited from passing legislation that would deny Americans the equal right to vote regardless of their race. Since its initial passage, Congress has amended the VRA 5 times to expand its protections. However, on June 23, 2013 the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that Section 4(b) of the VRA was unconstitutional.

Section 4(b) of the VRA contained the coverage formula which was the basis for determining which jurisdictions were subject to a federal court review of any changes to state voting laws, known as preclearance, as required by Section 5 of the VRA. While the Court did not touch Section 5, removing the formula within Section 4(b) effectively allowed states and local governments to bypass federal preclearance before implementing any changes to their voting rights laws or practices.”

Understanding that the voting rights landscape has changed in Alabama, HRC Alabama, AIDS Alabama and the ACLU of Alabama are holding several voter registration activist trainings in major cities across the state. Additionally, we are connecting our Equality Is Our Business signers with activists who will register voters at the business locations. This information will be available online and trainings will be streamed live using Facebook.

These efforts are in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day, which will occur this year on September 27. Our goal is to see location pins dropped all over the state of Alabama with activists working to register voters. The last day to register to vote in Alabama is October 24. HRC Alabama would like to register our LGBTQ friends and allies and let them know their rights as they register and at the polls.

GLAAD statement on 'I Am Cait' ending after two seasons

GLAAD statement on 'I Am Cait' ending after two seasons

GLAAD today responded to the news that E!’s I Am Cait will end after two seasons.

Said Nick Adams, the director of GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program:

E!’s I Am Cait was a groundbreaking documentary series that gave millions of Americans their first chance to get to know a diverse group of transgender women. Caitlyn and her friends, Jenny, Kate, Candis, Chandi, Zackary, and Ella, among others, were able to tell their stories, engage in meaningful (and sometimes difficult) conversations, and share their experiences firsthand with each other and with a national audience.

Throughout its two seasons, the show had fun while also addressing the important issues affecting the transgender community. As she herself acknowledged, Caitlyn had a lot to learn about the transgender community, and by bringing viewers along with her as she met trans people around the country, she and the show influenced the way Americans see and understand trans people and the issues they face. GLAAD was proud to recognize both I Am Cait and TLC’s I Am Jazz with awards for Outstanding Reality Program this past spring at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

At a time when 84% of people say they don’t personally know someone who is transgender, TV shows like I Am Cait are a powerful way to help people feel they do know someone who’s transgender, and that is the power of visibility and media representation.

We need to see more transgender people and characters on television, but I Am Cait gave us something special – a close look into the lives of interesting, intelligent trans women and their relationships – which entertained and educated people in all 50 states and in over 150 countries around the world.

Jean Wyllys, dep. Chico Lopes, dep. Chico D’Angelo, dep. Érika Kokay, Dep. Paulo Pimenta, movimentos sociais como a UNALGBT, MST, Fora do Eixo, UNE, Anavtrans, ABGLT, ArtGay, Levante Popular da Juventude, entre outros.
