Attempts To Get Gay Hookup Site Ads Removed From DC Metro Fail

A campaign to get advertisements for gay hookup site Squirt.org removed from Washington, D.C. metro stations by conservatives and concerned parents is so far coming up empty.

An online petition calling for their removal has garnered over 1,500 signatures at time of writing.

Conservative news site CNSNews.com reports a Metro representative told them the ads could not be removed because regulating content would violate the advertiser’s First Amendment rights.

The offending ad for Squirt running at DC’s Metro stations.

They point out that the Metro bans religious, political and advocacy advertising, which is true.

That decision was made last year after a group tried to buy space to place a cartoon of Muhammad as an advertisement, which many Muslims find offensive. The same group trying to place the ad was responsible for the “Draw Muhammad” contest that led to a shooting in Texas.

The Metro then closed what they labeled as “issue-oriented” advertising for the rest of the year, which they then decided to continue indefinitely.

“The advertiser purchased a total of five ads in three stations through August 7. Metro has not received any customer complaints to date,” Metro spokesperson Morgan Dye told CNSNews.com.

The petition reads as follows:

Dear D.C. Metro Board and Advertising Committee,

I am writing to express my shock and displeasure at discovering that you are currently promoting an inappropriate homosexual hookup ad in the Metro System.

This complaint refers specifically to the advertisement for “Squirt.org,” a so-called homosexual hookup website. This advertisment is posted in multiple places in the Dupont Circle Red Line Station, and is likely found in other stations throughout the city. You can view a copy of the ad by following this link.

Not only does the advertised website encourage homosexual hookups and video chats, it also provides an avenue for interested customers to find a “casual” hookup partner in a public place, such as a bar or a public restroom. This activity, commonly known as “cruising,” often leads to illegal prostitution and indecent exposure charges. By posting this advertisement, the D.C. Metro is facilitating illegal activity and exposing young people to sexually explicit content .

Last year, the Metro Board banned all religious advertising in the Metro System. Religious advertising is usually uplifting, encouraging, and moral. There should not be a blanket ban on all religious advertisements. To the contrary, advertisements such as this one are morally corrupt and encourage dangerous and illegal activities.

Stop subjecting your customers – especially children and adolescents – to this inappropriate sexual advertising, and please issue an apology to all of your customers who have already been affected by this advertisement.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

This is not the first time Squirt ads have made a stir.

They have previously caused concern in Dallas, were censored in Miami and were pulled in Toronto and Cardiff.

A video of an ex-marine smashing the glass protecting one of the ads and throwing it into the street once accessible went viral last year.

Another week goes by, and with it another opportunity to peer into the life of River Viiperi, the 24-year-old model famous for baiting — er, we mean bathing — on camera. Hey, everyone needs a thing.

And he does seem to have a preoccupation with getting sudsy for the world’s consumption.

Gay Stereotypes About Tops and Bottoms Get Wrecked – WATCH

Gay Stereotypes About Tops and Bottoms Get Wrecked – WATCH

Stereotypes abound in gay culture. And in a new comedic sketch from Michael Henry, stereotypes about what an archetypal top and bottom look like get smashed.

The video parodies what might happen when two gay friends find out that their other friend is a top–a fact that baffles them because he embodies many of the qualities often associated with gay men who identify as bottoms. That is, in all but one way.

Watch as gay expectations are shattered, below.

Magician Destroys the Transgender Bathroom Myth with the Help of Peanut Butter and Jelly – WATCH

Magician Destroys the Transgender Bathroom Myth with the Help of Peanut Butter and Jelly – WATCH

PBJ

Magician Justin Willman decided to use his magical powers for good and help educate America on why the transgender bathroom myth is a bunch of bullsh**.

Willman suggests that transgender bathroom rights really isn’t a complicated issue. And neither is gender identity. In fact, they are so simple that they can be explained with peanut butter and jelly.

Imagine, for instance, that a peanut butter jar was actually filled with jelly, and that a jelly jar was filled with peanut butter. While the jar in each case may not match its contents, the contents themselves do not change. The peanut butter is still peanut butter even though it’s in a jelly jar.

Says Willman, “I guess it doesn’t matter what it says on the jar. If it’s got peanut butter in it we should just show it some god-damned respect and call it peanut butter because it didn’t choose the jar.”

Get the picture?

Willman adds,

“I know this seems so simple but there are some f**king idiots out there who just can’t comprehend this. They think that the peanut butter is going to pretend to be jelly just so it can sneak over here and listen to the jelly pee and just jerk off–that’s not what this is about, Dad! If it’s peanut butter, let it pee with peanut butter. And if it’s jelly, let it pee with jelly.”

Watch, below.

It Was Romance premieres music video with LGBT spin on 90's classic

It Was Romance premieres music video with LGBT spin on 90's classic

Comedian, journalist, and musician Lane Moore and her band It Was Romance released a music video for their latest single, “Hooking Up With Girls.” The new video is a shot-for-shot remake of the Fiona Apple’s iconic music video for her song “Criminal” in the 1990’s, but It Was Romance remakes it from a queer perspective. It Was Romance’s video has caught the attention of several leading outlets, including Billboard, NylonJezebelOutAfter Ellen, Refinery 29,and Curve

Moore’s career has taken her in many different directions, from comedy and acting, to music and writing. However, no matter what creative medium she is working in, she incorporates queer advocacy in almost everything she does.

“Some of it is conscious, but a lot of it isn’t,” she said. “My band’s debut album, It Was Romance, which this song [‘Hooking Up With Girls’] is from, has songs on it that I wrote about men and some I wrote about women. When I wrote these songs I wrote them because I was feeling the same feelings any other song writer feels when they write a song.”

It was also important to the band to add queer elements to their remake of Fiona Apple’s video.

“I’ve always been obsessed with ’90s music videos and Fiona has been a lifelong musical inspiration for me,” Moore said. “The Criminal song and video are both so evocative of something sexy and frustrated and angry and confused, all of which were themes in ‘Hooking Up With Girls,’ so to recreate that and tie in the queer element of the song just seemed like the most exciting thing to do!”

The video was also created entirely by a diverse crew of queer people and people of color, showing the importance of diversity both in front of and behind the camera. Moore explained that because the band is already made up of people of color and queer people, it made most sense for the crew and actors in the video to reflect that.

Outside of her music career, Moore recently served as the Sex & Romance editor of Cosmopolitan when the magazine won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage this past May, where she helped to achieve greater visibility for the LGBT community.

“Winning that award meant everything to me,” Moore said. “When I came to Cosmopolitan I wanted to make it LGBT-inclusive and body positive and to talk about gender and sexuality and love and all of these things I wish I’d been able to see in a mainstream magazine. We’re all just people who have crushes and feelings so there’s no reason there should be ‘Oh, this is for straight people, and this is for queer people.’ I’d love to see that gap continue to narrow.”

As for the music industry, Moore believes that the best way to promote queer visibility is to support queer artists.

“It’s so important for queer people to support their own,” she said. “Buy music by LGBT artists, watch films by LGBT people, go like Facebook and Twitter pages by LGBT performers. I’ve started a Patreon for that reason, to allow people who like what I’m doing and want to directly support it to be able to do that. There are a lot of queer people and people of color doing things like this and I think it’s so valuable to lift each other up any way we can.”

Ride along (virtually) as GLAAD takes the Southern Stories Summer Tour to Texas

GLAAD

GLAAD continues its Southern Stories Summer Tour next week in Texas. Throughout the trip, GLAAD will be facilitating conversations with local advocacy leaders about accelerating acceptance and amplifying the voices of LGBT people in the South. We will share resources, and listen to the stories of everyday LGBT Texans.

The Summer Tour begins in Houston on August 9, with a teaser preview of the upcoming short documentary “GLAAD Presents: State of Change – Texas” at the Montrose Center. We will also hear from a panel of LGBT leaders in Houston who are featured in the film. Panelists include Fran Watson, President of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus; Lou Weaver, Statewide Transgender Programs Coordinator for Equality Texas; Andrea Molina, Director of the Organización Latina de Trans de Texas; and Janet Quezada, Senior Strategist, Spanish Language and Latino Media at GLAAD. Panel will be moderated by Ross Murray, Director of Programs, Global and US South at GLAAD. RSVP for the event here.

GLAAD staff will also unveil a new resource guide for journalists and media organizations and LGBT leaders, “Southern Stories – A Guide for Reporting on LGBT People in Texas.” The guide provides a timeline of LGBT highlights, terms and definitions, pitfalls to avoid, organizations and experts on given topics, as well as story ideas for innovative, fair, and inclusive reporting. GLAAD collaborated with Equality Texas in the creation of the resource guide.

On August 12, GLAAD will visit the youth living in Pride Home in Edinburg. We’ll share a sneak peek of “State of Change – Texas” and talk to the residents about their perception of being LGBT in Texas. Pride Home has just opened home that will provide emergency housing for LGBT youth in the Rio Grande Valley. Joining us for conversation would be Amanda Robinson, the founder of Real Live Connection, a non-profit based in Dallas that is dedicated to providing positive development and life-enhancing programs to LGBT teens.

Finally, GLAAD will end the tour at the Aquí Estamos Conference in McAllen. In addition to attending the conference, GLAAD will screen a teaser of “State of Change – Texas”, followed by a panel of LGBT leaders who were filmed at the 2015 conference for the documentary. Panelists include Anel Flores, author of Empanada: A Lesbiana Story en Probaditas; and Robert Salcido, Regional Field Coordinator for Equality Texas. GLAAD’s Janet Quezada will moderate. RSVP for the event here.

The Southern Stories Summer Tour is part of GLAAD’s Southern Stories initiative, which aims to positively showcase the lives of, and build acceptance for, the LGBT community in southern states. This is done through sharing the stories of people from a wide array of backgrounds, including faith-based organizations, sports teams, military personnel, and more. Partners on the Texas tour include Equality Texas, The Montrose Center, Youth Pride Home, and the Aquí Estamos Conference.

Christopher Biggins, Renee Graziano’s “Big Brother” Biphobia Causes Backlash

Christopher Biggins, Renee Graziano’s “Big Brother” Biphobia Causes Backlash

Celebrity “Big Brother” housemates Christopher Biggins and Renee Graziano competed recently to see who could be the bigger biphobe. In a fierce competition, they pretty much tied for worst.

Actor and television presenter Biggins asked “Mob Wives” star Graziano what her feelings were on gay people.

“I think it’s beautiful because it’s who you are and I think it’s natural,” she said. “But I think today in society, I think they kind of force things on people and confuse you.”

“I think the worst type though, I’m afraid to say, is the bisexuals,” Biggins added.

“That upsets me,” Grazino said. “You have to pick a team.”

“Yeah,” Biggins said. “What it is, is people not wanting to admit they’re gay.”

“Please pick a team!” Graziano pleads. “You can pick any one you want.”

“I know, I agree,” Biggins said. “I totally agree.

Yeah, just pick a team. So long as that team perfectly conforms to their false dichotomy where everyone is on one end of the spectrum or the other, despite what social science has taught us over the decades about the complexities of human sexuality.

Ironically, they seem unaware that what they are doing, displaying the type of biphobia that anyone not on “Team Gay” or “Team Straight” often receive from both communities, is the exact reason that few people pretend at being bisexual for very long.

It quickly becomes evident that identifying as bisexual is not going to make your life any easier and that it is probably easier to just identify as gay.

Unless, of course, you are legitimately bisexual and want to live your truth, in spite of the rampant biphobia present in society.

The comments are inspiring many to join team “F*ck you, Biggins and Graziano.”

I hope the conversation between Biggins and Renee invalidating bisexuality causes controversy because that shouldn’t go under the radar #CBB
