HRC President Chad Griffin Shreds Trump Claims That He’s Pro-LGBT in DNC Speech: WATCH

Chad Griffin Trump

Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin used his appearance at the Democratic National Convention to go to town on Donald Trump’s claims that he’s pro-LGBT.

Here are Griffin’s remarks in full:

Last month, our nation was rocked to its core by a senseless and hateful attack that claimed the lives of 49 LGBTQ people and allies at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. They were brothers and sisters, they were sons and daughters. Above all, they were human beings.

Yet while the nation mourned, Donald Trump strutted before the cameras, and exploited our national tragedy. He had the audacity to tell the American public that he was the true champion for LGBTQ people in this race, and that our community would be better off with him in the White House. He even challenged his skeptics to, and I quote – “ask the gays.”

Well, since he asked…Here goes:

While Donald Trump has threatened to strip away our rights, the Hillary Clinton I first got to know as a closeted kid growing up in Arkansas has always been willing to stand up for the voiceless, and she’s made fighting for equality a cornerstone of her campaign.

While Donald Trump has promised to legalize Kim Davis-style discrimination in all 50 states… Hillary Clinton has promised to sign the Equality Act into law.

While Donald Trump chose as his running mate a governor who tried to divert HIV funding in order to finance the abusive practice of so-called “conversion therapy”… Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is committed to stopping the spread of HIV, banning conversion therapy for minors, and ending the hate and violence our community still faces.

And long before Donald Trump struggled to read “LGBTQ” off a teleprompter last week, Hillary Clinton stood before the United Nations and boldly declared that gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights.

I want to remind Donald Trump of one more thing. The LGBTQ community is as diverse as the fabric of our nation. We are Muslim. We are Jewish. We are women. We are black, white and Latino. We are immigrants and we are people with disabilities. And when you attack one of us, you are attacking all of us.

And that, my friends, is why together we are all with her.

dncRUSSIAN HACKERS. New attack on Democratic donors: “The latest hack, aimed at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, was perpetrated by one the two Russian-based groups previously blamed for rifling through the DNC’s computer networks and making off with emails and other documents, a security expert familiar with the latest breach told POLITICO. But this new attack “appears to be a bit different” the source said.”

DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM. The letter Q was left off of party’s LGBT platform: “The idea that we can self-identify and name ourselves is very important,” said Braun, who identifies as gay. “It is very unfortunate that queer people have to fight to be identified properly by a party that is supposedly paying lip service to our community.”

Singer turned down $5 million to perform at event during GOP convention: “The “Sorry” singer was set to be paid the whopping sum by GOP donors to perform for 45 minutes at the Quicken Loans Arena, where the Republican National Convention was being held, but linking the star to a political party was a no-go for the Biebs’ team.”

NEW DAY. Chris Cuomo says Trump and his campaign have blacklisted his CNN show: “One of the misconceptions is the media gives him a pass. That is not true. I’m blacklisted by Donald Trump and his whole campaign. They won’t come on because of how we conduct our interviews.”

cleveland prideCLEVELANDPride cancelled. “We have been entrusted by our community to create a secure parade and festival environment for our LGBTQ brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, friends and allies,” said Todd J. Saporito, president and CEO of Cleveland Pride, Inc. “Because of the changing social climate, Cleveland Pride did not have enough time to engage in the development of awareness programs and training that we believe is critical in today’s environment. Therefore, we regretfully cancelled our 28th annual parade, rally and festival this year.”

Zika virus being spread by mosquitos in Miami, says Governor Rick Scott: “We learned today that four people in our state likely have the Zika virus as a result of a mosquito bite,” he said. “All four of these people live in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, and the Florida Department of Health believes that active transmissions of this virus could be occurring in one small area in Miami.”

VIRGINIA. Still has laws banning gay marriage: “The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 13 months ago that same-sex couples have a fundamental right to marriage throughout the United States. But 30 states, including Virginia, still have laws on their books barring those marriages, and two Northern Virginia legislators say it’s long past time to remove them.”

rioRIO 2016. How will gay athletes be accepted at the Olympics? “…the conversation has been significantly muted as Rio approaches, primarily because the concern in Brazil is much more complicated. The country has an image as a tolerant, open society and the world’s biggest gay pride parade takes place annually in Sao Paulo. Yet the New York Times recently tabbed the country “the world’s deadliest” place for the LGBT community, citing an average of one LGBT person killed per day, according to Grupo Gay da Bahia, a long-time advocacy group for LGBT rights in Brazil.

I tweeted something like “I’ve arrived” with the pic!”

Clinton Herstory

It’s the end of a long day, a long week, a long primary and a long 100 years since Alice Paul formed the National Woman’s Party to demand passage of a national suffrage amendment demanding the right for women to vote in this country. Last night, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the first woman to be nominated for President of the United States by a major political party and it just may take a while for the gravity of that to settle in.

RELATED: Hillary Clinton Accepts Historic Nomination for President: WATCH, TRANSCRIPT

I remember in 1984 when the Democrats nominated Walter Mondale as their Presidential candidate and he chose Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. That was the summer between my junior and senior years in college and at the time I was dating a girl named Jennifer. We were both proud feminists. When Ferraro accepted the nomination we sat on Jennifer’s bed watching the TV and wept with joy that this “breakthrough” had finally happened.

Once the feminine aspect of things starts taking over well, you can see it…

How Jennifer didn’t know something was amiss when I cried with her like I did I’ll never know but she was lovely and we really were thrilled. When Ferraro accepted the nomination she was wearing white just as Hillary was tonight. It was pointed out by LA Times reporter Cathleen Decker that white was the color worn by the suffragettes. Something tells me Melania Trump didn’t have that in mind.

But why wasn’t I weeping with joy tonight? Maybe it’s because 32 years ago in 1984 I was 21 and slightly more excitable, i don’t know… could be exhaustion. It’s been a long time since Ferraro’s “breakthrough” moment. And Mondale lost.

gay marriage… bathroom wars… transgender people in the military… It’s a slippery slope. What’s a man to do?

Also, where’s the joy in it really? Hillary has been maligned and attacked for everything under the sun since she first rose to national prominence in 1992. People hate her. I don’t hate her. I admire her tremendously but Jesus, now we have to fight for another four months to make sure she beats Trump? TRUMP! I mean, are you kidding? Shouldn’t this just be a no-brainer? Goddess knows he is. He’s evil and ridiculous.

But men like him have been stealing, raping and f*cking people’s lives up since time began. That’s nothing new. In certain circles people expect that sort of thing, admire it even. But Hillary is guilty of being a woman and if I know anything it’s to never underestimate the deep-seated misogyny that is entrenched in every crack – no pun intended – of our culture.

We live in a democracy not a meritocracy. Trump has directly appealed to “the undereducated.” I loved it when he said that. That made it all clear as day. It was Reagan’s victory really. The first thing Reagan did when he took office in 1980 was cut funding for education because he and his rich cronies knew that a dumb electorate is an easily manipulated one. It’s been downhill ever since.

All those pesky baby boomers who were going to college in the 60s almost destroyed this country–in California in particular, Reagan’s state, where while he was Governor the student protests at the public universities almost brought the military industrial system to its knees. Knowledge is dangerous. Hello! Hillary and Bill are prime examples of what that system bred.

Now look what it’s led to! If woman caused the downfall of man by eating from the tree of knowledge, then cut down the tree.

Why do the evangelicals love Trump all of a sudden? Because he’s taking on the evil sorceress who is threatening the patriarchy. Misogyny, pure and simple. Once the feminine aspect of things starts taking over well, you can see it, gay marriage… bathroom wars… transgender people in the military… It’s a slippery slope. What’s a man to do? I’m terrified to find out, but over the course of the next few months I’m sure we will.

Yes, I’m thrilled to have a woman candidate but I guess I’m too nervous to cry, too clear-eyed and anxious. What if she loses? That’s a terrifying thought and a real possibility. Even if all the horrible things people say about her are true -so what? She’s the choice and she must win. This is not just a kumbaya, go women, happy face emoji kind of thing. Sure, there’s that. She’s the nominee. Herstory has been made. But never forget that we are facing a grim reality if she loses.

People better get it together, stop talking stupid nonsense about Bernie, Jill Stein et al and realize how serious this actually is. Get real. I don’t care how many children, aides, or friends you think she’s killed, how many lies she’s told, corporations she’s sold out to, rumors you’ve heard, or bogus real estate deals you think she’s been involved in. Look at the psychos backing Donald Trump and get with the program.

They hate us and want us dead–especially the queers. They did in the 80s when they stood by and watched AIDS decimate our community and they still want us dead now. Look at Pence. And women? People of color? Please, you know what I’m talking about.

I’m thrilled Hillary has won the nomination but I sure as hell don’t trust the electorate. I’ll save my tears of joy for the inauguration.

Now let’s get to work so we can all bawl on the Mall in January!

Brian Sims wooder

Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims, who is not a native but represents Center City Philadelphia’s 182nd district, took a moment with Penn Live during the DNC to explain some of the slang that gets thrown around in his district.

And you’ll want to listen, because, honestly, you’d be a fool not to. Imagine if you ran into him and he asked you if you’d like a wooder. You’d need to know how to respond.

“There are lots of words that Philadelphians use that I don’t exactly understand sometimes,” Sims explains but in this clip he’ll explain some of his favorites, like wooder, the shore, youse guys, and, of course, Philly’s best food, the cheesesteak.

faint of heart

Tegan and Sara’s new video for “Faint of Heart” features LGBTQ youth celebs channeling musical icons and it was shot one day after the Orlando tragedy.

Teen Vogue reports:

The clip stars Tyler Ford as Prince, Ella Giselle as Madonna, Dominic Ravina as Elvis, Olabisi Kovabel as Grace Jones, Cooper Treibel as David Bowie, and Eli Erlick and Ni Ching-Marino as Sara and Tegan, respectively. “To be able to meet so many people from the LGBTQ community who are doing such important work was an honor and an added bonus to making this video,” Tegan said, adding that she and Sara “chose not to be in the video (other than a small cameo) as a way to truly showcase the talented performers and not overshadow them in any way. We knew we had a special opportunity to highlight these artists and didn’t want to take away from them or their performances.”

The video held extra weight as it was filmed the day after the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. “Working with other trans and gender non-conforming folks fills my heart up, and the fact that LGBTQ youth will be able to see possibilities for themselves in this video is so vital,” Tyler said of the process. They added that “being on set with so many LGBTQ folks — especially the day after the Pulse shooting — was so necessary, nurturing, affirming, and healing. It’s so important to be able to create with and within our communities.”
