LIQUID HOT MAGMA. Stunning video pours in showing lava from the Kīlauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island reaching the Pacific Ocean.

PHOTO OF THE DAY. Hillary and the boys.

THANKS, OBAMA. Conservatives stunned how much they liked President Obama’s speech at the DNC.

I started the evening saying for the first time I thought Trump could win. Then Obama spoke. I’m so angry at my own party right now.

SAY IT AIN’T SO. Lifetime is doing a remake of Beaches because nothing is sacred anymore. And Idina Menzel will be in it.

CASTING. In somewhat related news, Nick Jonas is in talks to star in a remake of Jumanji

NORTH CAROLINA. State GOP confuses Tim Kaine’s blue star service pin for Honduran flag.

Here’s a screenshot of that @NCGOP tweet about @timkaine, since they deleted it. #DemsInPhilly pic.twitter.com/LbAywwnnob

OLD HOLLYWOOD. Legendary film director John Huston’s grandson Jack Huston is quite dashing.

MAN OF STEELE. Your first look at Tyler Hoechlin as Superman on Supergirl.

Supergirl isn’t the only new hero coming to The CW this fall. @TylerL_Hoechlin is joining her as Superman! pic.twitter.com/NgLKg3wjiz

DNC. Democratic delegates outraged that Chick-Fil-A was being served: “I would hope that the DNC would be more sensitive in the future to the LGBT community.”

SNUFF. Why are so many women more into lesbian and gay adult films than hetero adult films? “It’s rough and sweaty and full of grunts. The guys go for it without worrying about fluid, mess, they are playful and it just looks wonderful.”

MONEY. Gay mega-donor goes all in for Hillary–to the tune of $1 million: “Mel Heifetz, a real estate investor and one of the most generous supporters of gay rights causes in the country, is sending a huge signal by putting his support behind the Democratic presidential nominee.”

I DO. Isle of Man sees first same-sex marriage: “Marc and Alan Steffan-Cowell made history on Monday after having their civil partnership converted under the newly approved Marriage and Civil Partnership Act.”

OY VEY. Rudy Giuliani claims Russia has Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails: “The Russians have those emails. They’ve had them for some time.”

THURSDAY THIRST. Aaron Hendee.

Sarah McBride Makes History as First Transgender Speaker at Major Party Convention – WATCH

Sarah McBride Makes History as First Transgender Speaker at Major Party Convention – WATCH

sarah mcbride

Transgender activist Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender person to speak at a major political party’s convention on Thursday.

McBride was introduced by Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, the first openly gay person elected to Congress from the state of New York.

Taking the podium, McBride shared how she came out as transgender four years ago and was worried that being transgender would prevent her from achieving all that she wanted in life. Said McBride, “At the time, I was scared. I worried that my dreams and my identity were mutually exclusive.”

Since coming out, McBride has worked at The White House and at the Human Rights Campaign championing LGBT rights. And while she has seen much progress, she says, “so much work remains.” This election comes down to a fundamental question of character, McBride stressed:

“Will we be a nation where there’s only one way to love, one way to look, one way to live? Or, will we be a nation where everyone has the freedom to live openly and equally; a nation that’s Stronger Together? That’s the question in this election.”

McBride then touted Hillary Clinton’s commitment to LGBT issues, saying,

“Hillary Clinton understands the urgency of our fight. She will work with us to pass the Equality Act, to combat violence against transgender women of color, and to end the HIV and AIDS epidemic once and for all.”

And unlike the Republicans, McBride pointed out that hate against LGBT people doesn’t just come from “foreign ideologies”:

“Today in America, LGBTQ people are targeted by hate that lives in both laws and hearts. Many still struggle just to get by. But I believe tomorrow can be different. Tomorrow, we can be respected and protected — especially if Hillary Clinton is our president. And that’s why I’m proud to say that I’m with her.”

‘USS Harvey Milk’: US Navy Will Name Ship After Gay Rights Icon

‘USS Harvey Milk’: US Navy Will Name Ship After Gay Rights Icon

harvey-milk-1978

Licked your very last Harvey Milk stamp while mailing out your gas bill? Not to worry. The gay icon and legendary San Francisco politician is about to have a Navy ship named after him, if reports are to be believed.

USNI News obtained a Congressional notification signed by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus that strongly suggests he’s sneakily planning to name a Military Sealift Command fleet oiler USNS Harvey Milk.

The move will likely come to pass; Mabus has already named ships after several civil rights heroes, and the idea of naming a ship after the gay-rights activist has been floating around for several years. The USNS Harvey Milk would follow in the footsteps of USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE-13) and USNS Cesar Chavez (T-AKE-14).

Raised by a Navy family, Milk was a diving officer in San Diego for the Korean war until he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant junior grade. Shortly after, he became the first openly gay politician in California to be elected to office. Infact, when he was shot to death in 1978 , he was still wearing his U.S. Navy diver’s belt buckle.

According to nephew Stuart Milk, naming a ship after Harvey Milk “will further send a green light to all the brave men and women who serve our nation that honesty, acceptance and authenticity are held up among the highest ideals of our military.”
