John Oliver Gives the Republican Convention the Recap It Deserves: WATCH

On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took a look at last week’s main event, the “mismanaged s**tshow” that was the Republican National Convention, from Melania’s plagiarized speech to Ted Cruz getting booed off the stage.

Oliver takes note of this tweet:

Wow, Ted Cruz got booed off the stage, didn’t honor the pledge! I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway. No big deal!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 21, 2016

Remarking: “But that’s not reassuring. If the captain of the Titanic had tweeted after the fact, ‘I saw that iceberg two hours before and sailed into it anyway. No big deal,’ you wouldn’t have thought ‘wow that captain sure ran a tight ship.”

Oliver thought the convention emphasized feelings over facts, such as when Antonio Sabato jr. stated that Obama is a Muslim, not because it’s fact, but because he believes it.

“This focus on feelings reached its apex in Donald Trump’s acceptance speech, which was light on concrete policy, but heavy on provoking strong emotions.”

Oliver concludes:

“It is worth noting that since President Obama took office, crime rates, the flow of illegal immigrants flowing over our borders, and unemployment benefits have all declined, and yet frighteningly, when reporters starting pointing that out, it didn’t seem to matter.”

Finally, Oliver brings up an old clip from The Apprentice which reveals what Donald Trump’s governing style will really be like.
