Jessie Eisenberg London Pride

While Eddie and Patsy, UK Prime Minister David Cameron, a couple of gay cops and an estimated 40,000 other people took part in London Pride last Saturday, Batman v Superman star Jesse Eisenberg had a run in with a tiny, tiny group of Christian protesters.

Currently in London starring in The Spoils, which he also wrote, Eisenberg – apparently on his way to work at Trafalgar Studios – came across the group spreading the confused message that although god “is a god of love,” “criminals” should be punished. One poster proclaimed “Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.”

Looking absolutely nonplussed, when Eisenberg approached the group one protester asked the actor “Is your mind closed?” to which he replied “Is my mind closed? You are so f**ked up.”

German Politicians Detained as Turkish Police Use Teargas on Banned Istanbul Pride March: VIDEO

Istanbul Pride

Police in Istanbul detained 19 people, including two German politicians, at last weekend’s banned Pride event.

Last week, police fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds attending another LGBT march citing. That march had been banned “for the safety of our citizens, first and foremost the participants’, and for public order.”

Volker Beck, a German lawmaker, was briefly detained while preventing police from arresting a Turkish gay rights activist trying to read a statement. He said he had been the victim of “a massive and arbitrary police attack.”

According to Buzzfeed, European Member of Parliament (MEP) Terry Reintke was also arrested. Reintke said that she was released when police realized she is an MEP. Max Lucks, the speaker of the Green Youth Group in the German state of North-Rhine Westphalia, and Felix Banaszak, the Green party speaker in Duisburg, were also arrested. Authorities refused to release Lucks or Reintke’s assistant.

I was released. @max_lucks and @fbanaszak are still detained. We are fighting for their release. #IstanbulPride

In a statement, Turkish gay rights activists said “Those who banned our march used ‘society’s sensitivities’ as an excuse but what’s being guarded is not society’s, but the government’s sensitivities.”

We utterly condemn the actions of the Turkish authorities in suppressing #IstanbulPride. This is ugly, state sanctioned homophobia.

Istanbul’s annual pride parade is thought to be the biggest in the Muslim world. Gay pride parades have been held in the city since 2003 but last year’s march was broken up by police.

Trafalgar Square – Saturday afternoon 25 June 2016.

In the wake of the homophobic Florida terror attack it was inspiring to see London’s Pride march and rally attended by tens of thousands in defiance of the terror threat in the wake of the Orlando massacre.

The head of the LGBT NGO Stonewall, Ruth Hunt, commented that

“the need for us to stand together and say we are part of the LGBT community is as important today, as it was in the 1980s.”

London’s first Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan elected in May 2016, commented that he was “proud to be mayor of a city so LGBT+ friendly.”

A number of Muslims with LGBT and other placards were cheered by spectators along the march route which ran from Portland Place to Trafalgar Square.

Human Rights activist Peter Tatchell said the them of his organization, the Peter Tatchell Foundation, was LGBT-Muslim solidarity.

“In light of the horrific massacre of LGBT people in Orlando (we wish) to encourage an understanding that although gay people and Muslims are different, we share a common experience of prejudice, discrimination and hate crime and on that basis we should unite together and challenge all hate.”

Another important theme was tackling global issues of persecution and discrimination against LGBT people and several groups including Amnesty International, the Peter Tatchell Foundation and the Out and Diamond Group, A NGO representing African LGBT communities and campaigning for their rights, mobilized many of their members to participate in the march with placards reminding people of the need to think of those countries were such a gathering of LGBT people openly in the street would be impossible.

Brexit: The Vote That Set Cartoonists Off

Brexit: The Vote That Set Cartoonists Off

British satirists are reacting to the Brexit vote with mostly dismay, doomsday scenarios — and a new head of hair (“leave” campaigner Boris Johnson’s). But we wondered what cartoonists outside of Britain were drawing. A number of themes have emerged.

1. David Cameron, you are so outta here!

2. We’re an island, we’ve always been an island, and darn it, we’ll be just fine on our own, thank you very much!

3. Did I hear that right? You’re actually leaving? What?

4. The idea that Brexit spells peril for the fate of the European Union.

5. Don’t even think about it!

bankiYishai Schlissel had been freed from prison just weeks before he murdered Shira Banki (right) and attempted to murder seven others.

According to ABC, at his sentencing yesterday, judges noted that Schlissel had shown no remorse for his actions. They wrote:

“We have before us a man who doesn’t see a fellow human before his eyes. A cruel, dangerous and heartless man. This dangerous man cannot be allowed to walk any longer on the streets of Jerusalem, or anywhere else.”

More than 200,000 people attended Pride in Tel Aviv this year where a minute of silence was held for Banki.
