The Catholic League Wants “The Gays” To Apologize For Assault In Bizarre CNN Interview
On Monday, Pope Francis sped through the international skies in his sleek Papal Plane, gabbing it up with reporters. Asked to remark on the fraught relationship between the Vatican and the gay community, the Pontiff raised eyebrows when he said:
I believe that the church not only should apologize to the person who is gay whom it has offended, but has to apologize to the poor, to exploited women, to children exploited for labor; it has to ask forgiveness for having blessed many weapons.”

So when CNN’s Chris Cuomo began his Tuesday morning interview with Bill Donohue, the President of the Catholic League, he was probably expecting him to support the Pope’s statement. Well, that didn’t happen.
“Do you feel like apologizing to the LGBT community?” Cuomo asks.
Donohue’s response?
No. As a matter of fact, I want an apology from gays! I’ve been assaulted by gays. I’ve never assaulted a gay person in my entire life!”

Things went from bad to perverse when Donohue launched into some strange story about “being assaulted by lesbians.” Soon after that, the entire interview devolved into a sarcastic bicker-fest.
“I don’t want to have a lifestyle thrusted in my face though!” Donohue yelled.
“How are they putting their gay on you?” Cuomo retorted, oddly. (“Putting My Gay On You” could be an amazing house track.)
Donohue’s response to Cuomo’s question is absolutely insane.

Why Are Bisexuals So Self-Destructive? This Study May Have The Answer.
A new study finds that bisexuals drink and smoke more than their gay, lesbian and straight counterparts.
The report comes from the University of Vanderbilt, where researchers poured over data collected from the 2013 and 2014 National Health Interview Surveys. What they learned was that members of the LGB community, as a whole, reported higher levels of stress and more severe drinking and smoking habits than heterosexuals.
“Findings from our study indicate that LGB adults experience significant health disparities — particularly in mental health and substance use — likely due to the minority stress that LGB adults experience as a result of their exposure to both interpersonal and structural discrimination,” Gilbert Gonzales, PhD, who led the studies, writes.
Bisexuals reported the highest levels of psychological distress, which researchers believe could be a result of the marginalization they suffer in both mainstream society and the LGBTQ community.
“Combined with the relative scarcity of bisexual communities and organizations, this ostracizing may lead to social isolation, a risk factor for psychological distress,” researchers add.
Now, onto the data…
So what’s the takeaway from all this?
According to Mitchell Katz, MD, deputy editor of JAMA Internal Medicine, where the study was published, bisexuals need better support.
“In caring for people who have experienced bias and discrimination, support is a very potent medicine,” he says.
“However,” he adds, “there is reason to anticipate that with the growing acceptance of sexual minority populations, as evidenced by the rapid increase in the establishment of same-sex marriage in the Unites States and other countries, these disparities will decrease.”

Gay Vlogger Calum McSwiggan Arrested for Vandalism, L.A. Sheriffs Dispute Claim of Attack
Towleroad has confirmed that gay vlogger Calum McSwiggan was arrested in West Hollywood early Monday morning by Los Angeles County Sheriffs for vandalism. In a press release issued Tuesday, the L.A. County Sheriffs Department (LACSD) also said they have been unable to find any evidence to confirm McSwiggan’s claim that he was attacked by three men.
As we previously reported, McSwiggan took to social media on Monday to report that he was assaulted after being separated from his friends when he left a gay nightclub in West Hollywood. McSwiggan, who is based in the UK, was in Southern California to attend VidCon, an annual conference popular among YouTubers and their fans. McSwiggan shared a photo of himself in hospital appearing badly bruised.
Wrote McSwiggan, “With three broken teeth and six stitches in my forehead, I’ve never felt so terrified to be a gay man in the public eye.” Fellow vlogger RiyadhK, who was out with him that night, confirmed McSwiggan’s account of how events unfolded and added that McSwiggan was specifically targeted.
A report from Wehoville then brought into question the voracity of McSwiggan’s claims. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the LACSD confirmed that report.
McSwiggan had accused the sheriffs of mistreating him, writing, “The authorities should have been there to help and protect me but instead they treated me like a second class citizen.”
LACSD, however, tells a different story, saying that they tried to help McSwiggan by taking him to a hospital after he began to harm himself while in custody. Said the LACSD in its statement,
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has an affirmative duty to fully investigate all assaults and reports of violence in our community. Deputies from West Hollywood Station responded to and investigated the report by Calum McSwiggan that he was assaulted by three males after leaving a local nightclub early Monday morning. Responding deputies were unable to substantiate the assault. Mr. McSwiggan, who had no visible injuries, was subsequently arrested after deputies observed him vandalizing a car in the 8900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. After being booked and photographed, Mr. McSwiggan was placed into a cell by himself at West Hollywood Station. Mr. McSwiggan was then observed injuring himself with the handle and receiver to a payphone inside the cell. Medical personnel were summoned and Mr. McSwiggan was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. McSwiggan’s booking photo was taken prior to deputies seeing Mr. McSwiggan injuring himself. That booking photo is attached [above].

At Least 28 Dead, 60 Injured in Attack on Istanbul Airport – VIDEO
At least 28 people have died and 60 have been injured in an apparent terrorist attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk airport.
An official told Turkish state broadcaster TRT that two attackers opened fire with machine guns and detonated suicide belts outside the international terminal before passing the first security checkpoint.
Later the governor of Istanbul said that there were three suicide attackers.
The attack took place at around 10 p.m. local time which is a busy time for the airport with flights arriving from Europe and leaving for the Persian Gulf and other parts of the region.
A senior U.S. official announced shortly after the attack that all scheduled flights to and from Istanbul have been temporarily suspended.

Vasip Şahin, the governor of Istanbul province told the NTV news channel that 28 people had died, and said that authorities believe three suicide bombers were involved, because there were three separate explosions.
Another Turkish official told the Guardian that the suspects blew themselves up outside the security checkpoint at the entry to the international terminal, after police opened fire on them.
A spokesperson for the Istanbul police said that “a bomb exploded at the airport and there are many casualties”, adding that the exact number is not yet known.
You can watch video from the airport, including some surveillance video which allegedly shows the explosion. Be cautioned that some of the videos are graphic.

NEW MUSIC: Sigur Rós, Girl Band, Wye Oak
This week in new music: a captivating return from Sigur Rós, Girl Band release new single “In Plastic” prior to Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival on July 16th and Wye Oak offer a mini outtakes album prior to their (possibly?) forthcoming new full length.
Sigur Rós – “Óveður”
In their first new release since 2013’s Kveikur, Sigur Rós have issued new track “Óveður” which comes with a creepy, mesmerizing and possibly work-unfriendly video (below) shot in the Icelandic town of Grindavík.
The track featured in the band’s 24-hour “Route One” “slow TV” streaming event on June 20th.
Girl Band – “In Plastic”
Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, four-piece doom-laden noise rock outfit Girl Band have been tipped for a few years now but circumstance and possibly the weight of expectation have hampered their efforts at more mainstream success.
A great shame as last year’s debut album Holding Hands With Paul was a post-punk gem and the track “why they hide the bodies under my garage” was a highlight of the year.
Just released to coincide with the band’s appearance at Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival on July 16th, “In Plastic” will be available on 7” via Rough Trade on July 8th.
They will also appears with GREYS at Baby’s All RIght in Brooklyn, New York on July 14th.
Watch the videos for “why they hide the bodies under my garage” and “In Plastic” below.
Wye Oak – Tween
Baltimore-based Wye Oak are one of those indie bands that could, should and somehow never manage to.
That is a shame as Tween, a collection of out-takes from 2011’s Civilian and 2014’s Shriek, highlights a band at the top of their game.
There are some tracks here, such as “Better (For Esther)” and “On Luxury” that verge on 80s-era U2 rock while “Watching and Waiting” (the only real dud) could have worked as a Belinda Carlisle b-side way back when.
One of the problems with Wye Oak is that they have never quite managed to carry their message consistently and effectively enough across an entire album. That’s not the case with Tween (apart from “Watching and Waiting”). Although all eight tracks are outtakes, the album feels like a glorious whole, a wonderful introduction for newcomers and a suggestion that something bigger is afoot with their next album proper.

Lesbian Orlando City Commissioner Blasts GOP: ‘You Loaded Those Bullets With Hatred’ – LISTEN
Patty Sheehan, the openly lesbian city commissioner of Orlando, Florida, is blasting the Republican party for fomenting anti-LGBT hatred, hatred which fueled the mass shooting at the gay nightclub, Pulse, on June 12.
Sheehan spoke with Michelangelo Signorile about the massacre saying she was upset that many Republicans had failed to mention that the attack specifically targeted the LGBT community. She also went after Florida Republicans for their failure of leadership in the wake of the shooting.
Via Signorile’s column at HuffPo:
“Marco Rubio, the senator from Florida, walked on our blood-stained streets with people from the Hispanic community,” Sheehan observed of Rubio, who has been a vocal opponent of LGBT rights and even promised if elected president to try to overturn the Supreme Court’s historic marriage equality ruling. “And he went right back to Washington – one of the few times he actually showed up for work – and voted against sensible gun legislation.”
‘If this doesn’t change your heart?” she continued, not needing to finish the rhetorical question. “There were people from [Rubio’s] office – it was [a staffer’s] hair stylist who got shot and killed. This was a personal connection people from his office had with these young people. And he still couldn’t find it in his heart to do the right thing.”
Sheehan added of Florida’s anti-gay Governor Rick Scott, “My governor couldn’t say the word ‘gay’ — until he was called out on it.” Of all Republicans, Sheehan told Signorile, “…I’ve called a lot of them out on it. I said, ‘How dare you come here to my city – our city – and stand in front of the microphone and take up space….You loaded those bullets with hatred, as far as I’m concerned.’”
Listen to the interview, below.
